Posted December 20, 200915 yr LUCIANO's TOP 100 2009 As we're heading towards the end of the year, I will be counting the Top 100 songs of 2009 that ranked on my personal chart. December 20, 200915 yr Author 100 - BLOC PARTY - Signs (Armand Van Helden Remix) (Peak: 8) 99 - KATY PERRY - Hot 'N' Cold (Peak: 9) 98 - SNOW PATROL - Just Say Yes (Peak: 7) 97 - LILY ALLEN - Not Fair (Peak: 7) 96 - LEONA LEWIS - Run (Peak: 1) 95 - THE KILLERS FEAT. WILD LIGHT & MARIACHI BRONX - ¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe! (Peak: 1) 94 - THE KILLERS - Human (Peak: 1) 93 - PIXIE LOTT - Cry Me Out (Peak: 8) 92 - TAIO CRUZ - Break Your Heart (Peak: 9) 91 - STEVE ANGELLO & LAIDBACK LUKE FEAT. ROBIN S - Show Me Love (Peak: 7) Nice way to start off with the last position. Bloc Party was dominating my personal charts for the whole 2008 and they still had momentum earlier this year, therefore they achieved a year-end hit with Signs. An interesting fact about this group of first ten singles: the Christmas No.1s for this year and last year make an appearence, with both Leona Lewis' "Run" and The Killers' premature "Happy Birthday Guadalupe" earning enough points to be included in the top 100. Also from last year, "Human" by The Killers (which peaked at No.1 in November 2008) made it into the chart long enough to land at No.94.
December 20, 200915 yr Author 90 - BLOC PARTY - One More Chance (Peak: 10) 89 - MAXÏMO PARK - The Kids Are Sick Again (Peak: 9) 88 - ART BRUT - Alcoholics Anonymous (Peak: 10) 87 - FLORENCE + THE MACHINE - Rabbit Heart (Raise It Up) (Peak: 8) 86 - PASSION PIT - The Reeling (Peak: 9) 85 - JAY-Z FEAT. ALICIA KEYS - Empire State Of Mind (Peak: 6) 84 - MCFLY - Lies (Peak: 3) 83 - SNOW PATROL - The Planets Bend Between Us (Peak: 9) 82 - LITTLE BOOTS - Remedy (Peak: 6) 81 - SNOW PATROL - If There's A Rocket Tie Me To It (Peak: 7) Quite an indie pack here, with two singles by Snow Patrol, Maxïmo Park and Bloc Party making it into this group. Another highlights include overly-hyped newcomers Little Boots and Florence + The Machine, both debuting this year and having certain degrees of success. Edited December 20, 200915 yr by Luciano
December 20, 200915 yr Author 80 - SLOW CLUB - It Doesn't Have To Be Beautiful (Peak: 6) 79 - KEANE - Better Than This (Peak: 10) 78 - CIARA & JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE - Love Sex Magic (Peak: 5) 77 - DOVES - Kingdom Of Rust (Peak: 8) 76 - THE SATURDAYS - Up (Peak: 5) 75 - COLDPLAY - Lost+ (Peak: 5) 74 - MICHAEL JACKSON - Smooth Criminal (Peak: 1) 73 - SNOW PATROL - Crack The Shutters (Peak: 4) 72 - DANIEL MERRIWEATHER FEAT. WALE - Change (Peak: 6) 71 - BAT FOR LASHES - Daniel (Peak: 6) Looking at the charts so far, it could clearly be predicted that my Top 100 of 2009 is dominated by Snow Patrol, but as we go further in the countdown we will see the likes of Coldplay and Keane (making their first appearence among this group of singles) having several hits charting here. Also notable is the appearence of the King of Pop at No.74, since after his tragic death in June I charted some of his hits on my personal chart, including "Smooth Criminal" which reached the top the week MJ died, "The Way You Make Me Feel" and "Blood On The Dancefloor" both making the top ten that same week. December 20, 200915 yr Author 70 - CALVIN HARRIS - Flashback (Peak: 4) 69 - JAMES MORRISON - You Make It Real (Peak: 1) 68 - MIKA - We Are Golden (Peak: 4) 67 - DEADMAU5 & KASKADE - I Remember (Peak: 8) 66 - ENTER SHIKARI - No Sleep Tonight (Peak: 8) 65 - JASON MRAZ - I'm Yours (Peak: 4) 64 - BRITNEY SPEARS - Womanizer (Peak: 1) 63 - DIZZEE RASCAL & ARMAND VAN HELDEN - Bonkers (Peak: 8) 62 - WHITE LIES - Farewell To The Fairground (Peak: 7) 61 - PASSION PIT - To Kingdom Come (Peak: 8) This is a more pop-based group of singles, with the likes of James Morrison and Britney Spears charting with 2008 singles which carried on from their last weeks in the charts. MIKA comes back with "We Are Golden", being unable to outpeak his biggest single on my personal chart, the 2008 No.3 hit "Relax, Take It Easy". Calvin Harris, White Lies and James Morrison will re-appear later towards the chart.

December 24, 200915 yr Author 60 - KINGS OF LEON - Notion (Peak: 5) 59 - MUSE - Uprising (Peak: 4) 58 - GREEN DAY - Know Your Enemy (Peak: 4) 57 - ATHLETE - Superhuman Touch (Peak: 5) 56 - BIFFY CLYRO - That Golden Rule (Peak: 5) 55 - KEANE - The Lovers Are Losing (Peak: 1) 54 - COLDPLAY - Strawberry Swing (Peak: 3) 53 - METRO STATION - Shake It (Peak: 5) 52 - COLDPLAY - Life In Technicolor ii (Peak: 2) 51 - PIXIE LOTT - Boys & Girls (Peak: 3) What can I say about this group of hits? It's mainly a bunch of Indie acts who did incredibly better in the past with older/better singles. Athlete used to be a favourite back in 2005 with Top 20 year-end favourites "Wires" and "Half Light". Biffy Clyro did massively with the No.1 "Mountains" and Muse were huge in 2006 with "Supermassive Black Hole", "Starlight", "Invincible" and "Knights Of Cydonia". All of them, though, returned with hits that spawned interest, but not in the same degree this time, therefore the rather lacklustre performance on my personal chart this year. Also notable is the appearence of my personal chart's superstars Keane and Coldplay. The threesome leadered by Tom Chaplin appears with "The Lovers Are Losing", a song that charted for the whole last quarter of 2008, but didn't manage to reach its current chart-topper status until mid-2009, mainly due to the fact that I saw them in concert at that time. Coldplay, on the other hand, makes the double in this pack with "Life In Technicolor ii" and "Strawberry Swing", both songs continuing the success of the "Viva La Vida Or Death And All His Friends" / "Prospekts March EP" era. Almost hidden amongst all the popness are Kings Of Leon and the admirable success of "Use Somebody", a huge smash in both sides of the Atlantic, the song managed to maintain the band's status very high after "Sex On Fire" stormed on the charts last year.
