December 27, 200915 yr Author 20 KEANE Perfect Symmetry Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41QZO8KivzL._SS500_.jpg After a considerable absence on my personal charts, Keane returned to form in 2008 with the Perfect Symmetry era. Spiralling was the first of three chart-toppers from this era, following from what The Night Sky (for the WARCHILD EP) had left. It wasn't soon until the Perfect Symmetry single managed to reach the top. Before, it had lurked around the top 10 for most of the early months of 2009, until I saw Keane in concert in Buenos Aires. That gig propelled the re-entry of both The Lovers Are Losing and Perfect Symmetry, with the first which had peaked at No.4 automatically topping the charts, and the last lurking a bit more around the top 10 until finally reaching No.1. Follow-up Better Than This didn't have quite the momentum the first three singles from this era had, but it peaked at a very respectable No.10. Edited December 27, 200915 yr by Luciano
December 27, 200915 yr Author 19 THE SATURDAYS Just Can't Get Enough Peak: 2 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/514kNT0UQSL._SS500_.jpg Awful at best, The Saturdays' rendition to Depeche Mode's 80's hit Just Can't Get Enough managed to lurke enough around the Top 5 to achieve its Top 20 year-end status on my personal charts. Although I don't rate the song that much at the moment, it did sparkle interest in me earlier this year, but it was probably the bigger interest I had in hits like Up and Issues that helped the track having such a staying power. December 27, 200915 yr Author 18 THE MACCABEES Love You Better Peak: 3 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51il9mRvLLL._SS500_.jpg One of the most amazing indie singles of the year, Love You Better by The Maccabees is the third song to have the most staying power on my personal charts, taking as long as two months to reach its No.3 peak position. Like most of the indie singles that have charted on my personal charts through the years, Love You Better was introduced to me by non other than Mr. Lavelle. Otherwise, I really wouldn't have payed attention to the song, but since every single he introduces to me ends up being amazing (thanks to him I was one of the first people to discover the likes of Sex On Fire by Kings Of Leon, Daddy's Gone by Glasvegas or Mountains by Biffy Clyro) I had to be a good boy and give this a listen.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 17 JAMIE T Sticks 'N' Stones Peak: 3 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51tPl1wJ9CL._SS500_.jpg I've been a fan of Jamie T since the Panic Prevention debut back in 2006/2007. Hit-singles Sheila and Calm Down Dearest were among my favourite of 2007 so a comeback from Jamie was always going to be welcomed by me. And he didn't disappoint. Even when comeback EP Sticks 'N' Stones didn't reach No.1, it was a very successful Top 3 hit on my personal charts and finishes at a great No.17 position on the year-end chart!
December 27, 200915 yr Author 16 WHITE LIES To Lose My Life Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51sBlMfWTaL._SS400_.jpg After capting my attention in late 2008 with No.1 single Death, newcomers White Lies returned this year with a whole new single and album: To Lose My Life. The single obviously followed its predecessor's success by reaching No.1, and the album spawned a string of amazing songs, including a third hit-single: Farewell To The Fairground.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 15 LA ROUX In For The Kill Peak: 2 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51IdqnSorsL._SS500_.jpg One of the most annoying new acts of the year according to lots of people, La Roux actually made me cringe when they first appeared on scene this year. As a matter of fact, debut single Quicksand never managed to catch my attention. Nor did sophomore effort In For The Kill at the very beginning, it actually took months to really take-off and grow on me. The song had debuted and peaked at No.3 in mid-2009 and it wasn't until Bulletproof made an impact that I re-entered In For The Kill and charted it at No.2.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 14 BRITNEY SPEARS Circus Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/41URt76qlZL._SS400_.jpg A No.14 single on any year-end chart would be impressive by any standards. It would've meant that said single made quite a big impact on me during the year to assure such a high position when collecting the best songs of a 12-month period. By Britney standards, this is way too low. Actually on par with mediocrity. The story behind the Circus single goes as follows: the very first time I heard Circus in November 2008, I thought it was a good enough pop song. The beats were the right ones, vocals were pretty nice, melody was good. Overall a good song, but I never felt it was enough for Britney, never rated it with the greatness I rated the likes of Toxic, Gimme More or Piece Of Me. I thought I was going to be okay with it once the video and single came out... it wasn't the case. Much to anyone's surprise, Circus didn't make a huge impact on me until The Circus Starring: Britney Spears started its series of concerts in March 2009. It wasn't until then that I saw the greatness of it. Now I think the song is quite legendary and memorable, but the fact that I wasn't overly impressed with it when I charted the song affected on its performance on the year-end chart.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 13 GIRLS ALOUD The Loving Kind Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51SjKHv7EoL._SS500_.jpg Arguably on the Top 3 best Girls Aloud songs ever, The Loving Kind is the best proof that the band still have a lot to offer, it was their 20th UK Top 10 single and it's been such a special song for me this year, I had to make it reach No.1 on my personal chart. It is the follow-up to The Promise, a UK No.1 and one of Girls Aloud's most successful singles ever!
December 27, 200915 yr Author 12 MADONNA Celebration Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51arg1cT-mL._SS500_.jpg Madonna came back this year with one of the most amazing Greatest Hits collections ever made. Celebration - The Ultimate Collection is a 2CD set (also available as a Standard Edition) that includes Madonna's biggest hits going through her enormous catalogue, and even when it misses some essentials such as True Blue or This Used To Be My Playground, the collection sums Madonna's career pretty nicely. As for the single, Celebration is nothing very new from the Queen of Pop. A great dance record with catchy lyrics and a hook, everything you'd want on a night at a club while dancing like crazy.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 11 BRITNEY SPEARS If U Seek Amy Peak: 1 http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/51xiTLZ6TBL._SS400_.jpg IF...........................................U................................................SEEK.........................................................AMY. Only a Britney song could be so raunchy and cheesy! The third single-off the Circus album caused major controversy last Summer, due to its lyrics and theme. As a response to the ridiculous yellow press and sensationalist journalists, Britney released a video where she has a party at home with some kind of orgy being held, but goes out to the streets and paparazzi waiting for her outside as a squeaky clean and nice housewife, husband and kids included.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 10 MICHAEL BUBLÉ Haven't Met You Yet Peak: 1 http://www.rnbjunk.com/foto/2009/08/havent_met_you_yet.jpg Always liked Michael Bublé, so when I found out he was releasing a new album I was well excited! And he didn't disappoint, even with the change in style, Haven't Met You Yet has been a favourite since it was released in late August. And its chart run on my personal charts is proof of that, the song had improved until it reached No.1 a month ago, and even now it sits comfortably into the Top 5, spending its 11th week there. Overall, the song hasn't been outside the top 10 so far. It debuted at No.8 and it's charting at No.5 this week.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 9 THE KILLERS Spaceman Peak: 1 http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_M1mwBc9jfGk/SwL9mcmKVFI/AAAAAAAABT8/PUenom6ThDI/s1600/51hq-AxhGHL.jpg The Killers: my favourite band ever and my favourite act ever along with Britney Spears, but you already know that if you know me or you see my signature. After the Las Vegas foursome came back with Day & Age and Human, they release the amazing follow-up Spaceman. Overall, they achieved 4 No.1's and a No.2 on my personal charts this year, including the UNICEF/MTV Exit song Goodnight, Travel Well and this year's Christmas single ¡Happy Birthday Guadalupe!, a song for which they teamed up with Wild Light and Mariachi Bronx.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 8 ROBBIE WILLIAMS Bodies Peak: 1 http://991.com/NewGallery/Robbie-Williams-Bodies-485859.jpg What a comeback from the reigning King Of Pop (well, I might've taken that a little too far, but I really like Robbie!!!). Bodies marked the return for Britain's superstar Robbie Williams this year, after a big absence from the charts and business. This amazing pop song is the first to be released from his new album Reality Killed The Video Star, which also includes the follow-up You Know Me, a song that resembles classic Robbie!
December 27, 200915 yr Author 7 GIRLS ALOUD Untouchable Peak: 1 http://www.cherylcolefan.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/04/girls-aloud-untouchable-single-cover.jpg Last single to chart here for Girls Aloud, Untouchable is a 6+ minutes long piece of dance/electropop that took the band to a whole new level when released this year. Unfortunately, it was the first Girls Aloud single not to reach Top 10 in the UK, peaking at a very respectable UK No.11, though. The song was the third and final single-off the immensely successful Out Of Control album.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 6 BRITNEY SPEARS Radar Peak: 1 http://www.dentromusica.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/britney-spears-radar.jpg Radar was originally planned to be released as the third single-off Britney's 2007 album Blackout. But a poll results posted at Britney's official website marked Break The Ice as a fan favourite and therefore that was the song that the record company released. With Britney's majorly known breakdown in early 2008, plans for a fourth release-off Blackout were scrapped, and Radar ended up as a mere album gem. That until Jive (Britney's record company) decided to include it as a bonus track on Britney's comeback album (post-meltdown) Circus. Ignoring fans pleads to make Unusual You as the fourth and final single of Circus (again a poll was posted at Britney's official website with If U Seek Amy winning as the third release and Unusual You winning as the fourth release), Jive decided to release Radar, an amazing pop song, but a song that fans already had in two albums or as a digital download. As a result, Radar became Britney's least successful single to date, reaching a mediocre at best Top 90 position in the US and becoming Britney's lowest charting single ever in the UK.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 5 BRITNEY SPEARS 3 Peak: 1 http://www.fansteen.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/britneyspears3promo.jpg 3 is the lead single and the only new song available on Britney Spears' new hits compilation The Singles Collection. The song is Britney being raunchy and sexual again, with lyrics suggesting a menáge a trois or even inviting a fourth person to the ultimate orgy. As for the album, its available in 3 different versions: there's a standard edition which includes 17 of Britney's best hits plus the new song 3, there's an international CD+DVD, with the DVD including 16 of Britney's best videos (3 and Boys are not included here, in spite of being on the Audio CD) but the most interesting format comes in the form of the Ultimate Fan Box Set. The latter is a pretty nice box including Britney's 29 singles with original cover arts and a DVD with all of Britney's videos in chronological order.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 4 CALVIN HARRIS Ready For The Weekend Peak: 1 http://www.banquetrecords.com/graphics/item/88697572381.jpg Calvin Harris has had an amazing era with Ready For The Weekend. On my personal charts, the title-track made No.1 and stayed months in the Top Ten. It was followed by Flashback which peaked at No.4 and charted at No.70 on this year-end chart.
December 27, 200915 yr Author 3 CALVIN HARRIS I'm Not Alone Peak: 1 http://www.pic-a-delic.com/image-EB21_49CCD7A2.jpg I'm Not Alone is arguable Calvin Harris' best single to date. It's actually on par with the likes of Acceptable In The 80's or The Girls, but overall I have always loved Calvin's music. Even the incredible flop that was Merrymaking At My Place was a favourite of mine back in 2007. The single peaked at No.1 on my personal charts and stayed at the top for three weeks. It also topped the Official UK Top 40 and it's bound to end the year making the Top 30 of 2009.
