I think the public voted ones are the only ones that are worth anything. The other awards are decided on by a bunch of old business-people who think they're being 'cool'. Doesn't matter really ... everyone knows that one of only two acts would have won it ... Muse or Take That.

Public Votes have often resulted in unworthy winners - Angels best single of the last 25 years? Best single winners every bloody year? All those Record of the Year votes for Westlife and McFly..

Plus if JLS are included in any of the public votes they will walk it because their fans certainly will multi vote.
So in fairness no matter how many copies of The END or singles from it are sold, Black Eyed Peas shouldn't be let anywhere near a nomation for best International group.

Umm, but they should, cos they have been, and are one of the best international groups.

Let me guess why you wrote that. You don't like their music, is that correct? Maybe the people who nominate think their music is great..and the public as well, hmmm?

Of course. As I said above the public shouldn't be involved but the panels should be made up of people who care about music and not about sales.

Yes but for live act they got it right with Iron Maiden last year and Take That and Muse the years before that. And I think it is the one award that should still be in there, and voted for by the public. I'd have no objection to Best British Single being changed to a non-public vote, even though Take That won it for Patience a few years back.

Even so, I think if the Live Act category was still there, and voted for by the Brits Panel ... Muse or Take That would have won it anyway. I just think it is ridiculous that Live acts bringing in the most music revenue, and being evidence of how much an act's work is appreciated ... it is the last category they should have dropped. For goodness sake ... they should have merged a couple of the international categories ... I doubt there's more than a few hundred people outside the UK who take The Brits seriously (a lot of us in the UK even see it as a 'mickey-mouse' awards ceremony.)

I'm generally arguing about public votes not this award in particular. Point taken.

Of course. As I said above the public shouldn't be involved but the panels should be made up of people who care about music and not about sales.

Even then Black Eyed Peas would still be a contender.

If JLS or Cheryl Cole win an award then it just shows how much of a joke the British public are.

Best Breakthrough - Florence and the Machine

Best Album - Florence and the Machine - Lungs

Can someone tell me why Animal Collective wont win best international album?

No one knows who they are. It would be the biggest WTF win ever.

No one? Hasn't it been at the top of or near the top of all the critics polls for Best album of 2009. How could NO ONE have heard of it?
