Posted December 22, 200915 yr Gabriella Cilmi's debut single 'Sweet About Me' was the most played song in the UK this year, according to music body PRS. The track, which was co-written and produced by Xenomania, reached number six in March 2008 and was also used in commercials for Sure and Dove Bodywash in Europe. PRS, which collects royalties for songwriters, compiled the list based on the number of times a song was used on radio, TV, online or in a concert. Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' came second on the list, while Moloko's 2000 single 'The Time Is Now', which is regularly used on Sky Sports, was third most played. Take That, Sugababes and Rihanna each had four entries in the top 100, but Michael Jackson had no songs included on the list. The top ten most-played songs of 2009 in full: 1.
