January 3, 201015 yr I have compiled a year end chart below based on world charts, 2/3rd of which are European and the rest mainly the Americas with only a few from the other continents as not much is available. I dont use any bias towards the bigger markets so it just shows how international the songs become rather attempting to guess worldwide sales. The figures in brackets show the peak position and number of weeks at that position. Perhaps not surprising there are only small differences between our charts. Milow and Alexander Rybak reached only 5 and 13 respectively as their success was almost exclusively in Europe. Only seven songs were number ones - same as yours except bodies. Apart from Milow other songs not successful in UK were Heavy cross (Gossip) peak at 12, f*** you (Lily Allen) peak at 16, Fireflies (Owl City) peak at 8 to date but will be big in 2010 in UK no doubt, Stereo love (Edward Maya/Viki Jigulini) peak at 13, Colors (Morandi) peak at 15 and two particularly big in South America, Manos al aire (Nelly Furtado) peak at 8 and Looking for paradise (Alejandro Sanz/Alicia Keys) peak at 9 to date, Bodies was the most internationally successful UK song followed by Evacuate the dancefloor if that counts as UK, Infinity, Not Fair and the Boy does nothing. None of those were UK number ones and conversely the UK songs which were number one in the UK in the year did little. 1 (1 - 16wks) Poker Face (Lady Gaga) 2 (1 - 15wks) I gotta feeling (Black Eyed Peas) 3 (1 - 6 wks) Hot n Cold (Katy Perry) 4 (1 - 6wks) When love takes over (David Guetta/Kelly Rowland) 5 (2 - 8wks) Sexy Chick (David Guetta/Akon) 6 (2 - 8wks) I know you want me (Pitbull) 7 (1 - 4wks) Boom Boom Pow (Black Eyed Peas) 8 (2 - 9wks) Right Round (Flo Rida) 9 (3 - 5wks) Halo (Beyonce) 10(2 - 2wks) She wolf/Loba (Shakira) 11(3 - 5wks) Jai Ho (Pussycat Dolls/A R Rahman) 12(3 - 3wks) Celebration (Madonna) 13(3 - 1wk ) Just dance (Lady Gaga) 14(1 - 5wks) Bad romance (Lady Gaga) 15(3 - 5wks) Human (Killers) 16(3 - 1wk ) Broken strings (James Morrison/Nelly Furtado) 17(1 - 1wk ) If I were a boy (Beyonce) 18(6 - 1wk ) Paparazzi (Lady Gaga) 19(4 - 1wk ) Takin back my love (Enrique Iglesias/Ciara) 20(3 - 1wk ) My life would suck without you (Kelly Clarkson) 21(2 - 4wks) Russian Roulette (Rihanna) 22(3 - 2wks) Bodies (Robbie Williams) 23(3 - 4wks) Meet me halfway (Black Eyed Peas) 24(6 - 4wks) Circus (Britney Spears) 25(3 - 4wks) Womanizer (Britney Spears) 26(6 - 2wks) Sweet dreams (Beyonce) 27(6 - 2wks) Evacuate the dancefloor (Cascada) 28(7 - 3wks) Please dont leave me (Pink) 29(4 - 3wks) 3 (Britney Spears) 30(6 - 2wks) Love sex magic (Ciara/Justin Timberlake)

I started compiling the Hitstastic European Top 30 way back in January 2001 and it's continued ever since. Perhaps one difference between your chart and mine is that I also include Eastern European countries. You mentioned 'Fairytale' by Alexander Rybak - this benefitted from countries like Russia and Ukraine where the song was no. 1 just shortly after the 2009 Eurovision Song Contest as well most central European countries. It's the most successful Eurovision winner this decade beating the previous best Lordi 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' which made no. 9 in the HET30. All other Eurovision winners throughout the decade never made the top 10, or in some cases failed to even make the top 30. I've listed below the final end of year positions for those songs that made your top 30 that didn't make mine just to compare: 24(6 - 4wks) Circus (Britney Spears) 25(3 - 4wks) Womanizer (Britney Spears) 26(6 - 2wks) Sweet dreams (Beyonce) 28(7 - 3wks) Please dont leave me (Pink) 29(4 - 3wks) 3 (Britney Spears) 30(6 - 2wks) Love sex magic (Ciara/Justin Timberlake) HET30 Final Positions: 31. Beyonce - Sweet Dreams - 18 7 32. Britney Spears - Circus - 14 6 38. Britney Spears - Womanizer - 8 3 39. Pink - Please Don't Leave Me - 16 9 46. Britney Spears - 3 - 10 7 49. Ciara featuring Justin Timberlake - Love Sex Magic - 11 6
January 3, 201015 yr Thank you Hitstastic. You were well over 4 years before me I think. I have a first number one as Candy Shop by 50 cent. However I found many more new charts on the internet over the last couple of years so it has become more comprehensive. I do include Eastern Europe plus several former Soviet countries. I had Lordi reaching 7 but yes Fairytale was bigger but didn't chart anywhere outside Europe. Edited January 3, 201015 yr by moth09
January 3, 201015 yr Author Thank you Hitstastic. 'Candy Shop' was indeed a no. 1 in my chart too. :D HET30 started thanks to MTV in the good old days of teletext. Every Friday MTV published the weekly singles chart from about 20 different European countries - although that also included Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Regardless, I decided to use a points system to see what the list would look like if I compiled all 20 charts using the same points system. The result was the HET30!!! When I first got the internet in 2002 I managed to find all those charts websites on HERE and HERE. I've continued using these websites every week since then - a brilliant resource for European charts. Admittedly, the number of charts I used towards the HET30 has grown from roughly 20 in 2001 to 36 today. I don't have any of the older charts from 2001-2003 as these were saved on a (gasp!!! :o floppy disk <--- how ancient  ) which my old computer corrupted around 2005. So I lost all that data but thankfully I'd already posted the end of year charts for 2001, 2002 and 2003. I just checked the Wikipedia page for 'Fairytale' and it peaked in the following countries: Austrian Singles Chart (10) Belgian Flanders Chart (1) Belgian Wallonia Chart (4) Danish Singles Chart (1) Estonian Singles Chart (1) Finnish Singles Chart (1) German Singles Chart (4) Greek Singles Chart (1) Irish Singles Chart (2) Norwegian Singles Chart (1) Russian Airplay Chart (1) Swedish Singles Chart (1) Swiss Singles Chart (3) Ukrainian Airplay Chart (1) UK Singles Chart (10) The single peaked at no. 2 the same week Black Eyed Peas climbed to no. 1 with 'Boom Boom Pow' pushing 'Poker Face' to no. 3 and it was extremely close points wise between all three songs that particular week.
January 4, 201015 yr Hitstastic, thanks for the links. I regularly use the charts all over the world link but found a couple on the world charts link that I wasn't familiar with. Belarus has a chart on unistar.by. Some countries of course have more than one chart which can differ significantly and some charts dont look very reliable such as Albania and Macedonia as they rely on web votes ....i think you can tell as the charts contain many surprising entries and no local acts are shown. Turkey is on powerfm.com.tr but also looks unrepresentative. There is a European chart on the world charts link which I assume takes into account the size of the UK/French/German markets. I guess you do as well but perhaps not to the same extent as you have Joe McEldery and Rage against the Machine for example at much lower positions at the moment. January 5, 201015 yr Author Hitstastic, thanks for the links. I regularly use the charts all over the world link but found a couple on the world charts link that I wasn't familiar with. I guess you do as well but perhaps not to the same extent as you have Joe McEldery and Rage against the Machine for example at much lower positions at the moment. That is true. I use the exact same points system for every different European chart so Joe McElderry got 10 points in the UK, equal to Edward Maya (10 points in France), Aura Dione (10 points in Germany), Erik Gronwall (10 points in Sweden), Melanie Fiona (10 points in Switzerland), etc... The more charts a song appears in, the higher up the chart the track will appear. The European chart on World Charts is the official Billboard Euro Top 100 but personally I don't think it's representative at all. Eg; when Madcon 'Beggin' entered the France singles chart at no. 1, the track rocketed 16-02 in the Euro Top 100!!! In the same week 'Beggin' climbed to no. 10 in the HET30 - a massive difference. It wasn't like Madcon has entered loads of other charts that week because they hadn't, so I think France is over represented.
January 5, 201015 yr France, UK and Germany are overrated in BB Eurochart. Its ridiculous how songs that enter only these charts immediately are top10/5
January 5, 201015 yr Author France, UK and Germany are overrated in BB Eurochart. Its ridiculous how songs that enter only these charts immediately are top10/5 If it was based on sales, most of the French singles chart just wouldn't make the grade. Lady GaGa 'Bad Romance' sells 78k alone in the UK whilst Edward Maya probably sold 5k in France? Beyonce 'Sweet Dreams' sold 6k to be no. 75 in the UK charts. So to put things in perspective, the no. 1 in France last week sold less than the no. 75 in the UK. I wouldn't be surprised if Germany's sales are more healthy. France also needs to starts adding download sales fast - I can't believe 'Paparazzi' has only just entered their singles chart whilst 'Bad Romance' is top 10 in their iTunes and most likely selling a lot more each week. -_- I also don't rate the Spanish singles chart - another slow moving chart. January 5, 201015 yr Hitstastic, your chart does look more representative than the Billboard one I agree. The UK, France and Germany would in any event be multi represented as the charts are very similar .... UK by Ireland...France by Wallonia ...Germany by Austria, Switzerland and Luxembourg if you include the latter which of course has a tiny population. Although you mentioned Melanie Fiona who is number one is Switzerland and very unusually is not doing well in Germany and Austria. Are you still including Australia and New Zealand in your chart as to my knowledge Stan Walker is not charting in Europe.

Yes  Australia and New Zealand singles charts have always counted toward the HET30. I know they're not actually "European" but as I posted above, MTV Europe also published their new charts too each Friday on teletext so I used those countries too. Stan Walker is purely charting in Australia and New Zealand. Same way Joe McElderry and RATM are only charting in UK & Ireland. Expect RATM to plummet in the next HET30 chart as the song is no. 22 in Ireland and no. 40 in UK so will therefore collect no points whatsoever (I only use top 10). January 7, 201015 yr Fairytale :o when did a Eurovision song last dominate European charts in such a way?
January 7, 201015 yr Author which countries do you include in your chart? I use the following countries: Australia, Austria, Bulgaria, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Flanders, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Iceland**, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxumburg, Macedonia, Malta, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania, Russia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Ukraine, United Kingdom and Wallony. **used to use Hungary until 2007 but that chart was so shockingly out of date (ie; older songs were just charting whilst dropping in all other charts) that I dropped it completely and started using Faroe Islands which in turn the chart I used wasn't updated for months so dropped Faroe Islands and started using Iceland around summer 2009. Despite the changes between these three countries, it didn't really have a knock on effect on the HET30. Edited January 7, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
January 7, 201015 yr Author Fairytale :o when did a Eurovision song last dominate European charts in such a way? Since I started the HET30 in 2001, no Eurovision winners song has become such a popular chart it. The previous most successful Eurovision winner was Lordi 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' in 2006. Below are the Eurovision winners 2004-2009 and their HET30 peaks: 2004 = Ruslana Lyzhichko 'Wild Dance' (no. 11) 2005 = Helena Paparizou 'My Number One' (no. 14) 2006 = Lordi 'Hard Rock Hallelujah' (no. 8) 2007 = Marija Serifovic 'Molitva' (didn't chart) 2008 = Dima Bilan 'Believe' (no. 14) 2009 = Alexander Rybak 'Fairytale' (no. 2) I no longer have records of the weekly charts from 2001-2003 but Sertab Erener peaked at no. 12 iirc. Don't remember Marie N or Tanel Padar, Dave Benton & 2XL making the HET30 in their respective years.
January 7, 201015 yr hardly surprising, I recall reading that Marie N's song didn't even make the chart in Latvia (her own country) despite being released there  terrible song it's a shame My Number One was never released in the UK, I know Sertab and Ruslana both were because I bought their singles in Woolies and HMV respectively
January 7, 201015 yr Author Hits, some of those countries dont have singles chart. Do you use airplay? A couple of them are airplay charts. Some of which are charts that MTV used to publish on teletext in the late 90s/early 00s. I even discovered the Latvian charts website when I was at college (around 1999/2000 it was) it was the exact same chart. I've therefore continued using that chart ever since. As far as I'm aware the charts that are based on sales are Australia, Austria, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Flanders, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Ireland, Italy, New Zealand, Norway, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, United Kingdom and Wallony. The rest seem to be airplay charts. There are a couple I'm unsure if they're sales based or airplay. Edited January 7, 201015 yr by Hitstastic
January 8, 201015 yr Based on worldwide charts I make the top 20 this week 1 (1) Bad Romance (Lady Gaga) 2 (2) Russian Roulette (Rihanna) 3 (3) Meet me Halfway (Black Eyed Peas) 4 (4) Tik Tok (Keisha) 5 (5) I Gotta Feeling (Black Eyed Peas) 6 (7) Empire State of Mind (Jay Z/Alicia Keys) 7 (6) Sexy Chick/Bitch (David Guetta/Akon) 8 (8) Fireflies (Owl city) 9 (10) Morning after Dark (Timbaland/Nelly Furtado/Soshy) 10 (13) Stereo Love (Edward Maya/Vika Jigulina) 11 (11) 3 (Britney Spears) 12 (14) You Know Me (Robbie Williams) 13 (12) Watcha Say (Jason Darulo) 14 (16) Rain (Mika) 15 ( 9) Looking for Paradise (Alejandro Sanz/Alicia Keys) 16 (18) Esclavo de sus Bejos (David Bisbal) 17 (20) Paparazzi (Lady Gaga) 18 ( R) She Wolf/Loba (Shakira) 19 ( --) One Love (David Guetta/Estelle) 20 ( --) Replay (Iyaz) Top 4 is the same as Hitstatistic's chart. Most of the rest of the differences would be due to the South and Central America effect. Alejandro Sanz/Alicia Keys and David Bisbal are hits only in the Spanish speaking world.

Which countries did you use to compile that chart? Portugal stopped compiling a singles chart years ago - at least a sales based chart anyways - so I've not used any Portugal charts since around 2004. I've never used charts from South America, or Central America.
