Kym Marsh will reportedly appear on ITV's new reality show Pop Star To Opera Star.

The former Hear'Say singer and Coronation Street star will compete against Blur's Alex James, Bernie Nolan of the Nolan sisters, McFly's Danny Jones, ex-Pop Idol star Darius Campbell (formerly Danesh), Jimmy Osmond and Vanessa White from girl band The Saturdays, reports The Daily Mail.

Marsh, who was previously linked to Celebrity Big Brother, will be mentored by Welsh singer Katherine Jenkins as well as tenor Rolando Villazon.

The show will be hosted by Myleene Klass and Alan Titchmarsh, with Meat Loaf and Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen apparently appearing as judges. Susan Boyle is rumoured to be in preparations for an appearance alongside Andrea Bocelli.

With tenor and soprano mentors, I wonder if he'll sing in his tenor or baritone range. Maybe now there's a seperate thread for this we should bring the other comments over?
I suppose once the show starts we should have a thread dedicated to it, not sure whether its worth bringing over the comments so far, but may as well

I wonder if there is a prize for the winner and if so, what it will be!??

Julie

I wondered that too Julie.

I think there are a few people in the show who will have a larger fanbase than D. Let's just hope that people can judge what they see, and if so, D should do pretty well fingers crossed.

Anyone else find it strange that Myleene, Kym and Darius all appeared in the original Popstars show, and are now coming together here(though not all contestants obviously)?

Kym is being set as favorite to win at the moment. Those Kym and Darius were the best singers on Pop Stars so not surprising. Myleene is classically trained and high profile at the moment.

Still not at all sure I'm going to like this. I think x-factor has put me off completely. I wouldn't watch if Darius wasn't going to be in it. I'm not into opera at all. Now, if it had been rock....

I don't like opera at all, if Darius wasn't on the show, I wouldn't watch it but at least it will get him into the spotlight before his album comes out (though if it is veering towards operatic, I will hate it).

I suppose it depends on who can sing opera, I have only heard Darius sing in his non popstar voice..so have no idea about the others singing ability

I dont quite know what to make of the presenters or judges..what Lawrence or meatloaf know about opera .perhaps lawrence will be juding their dress sense??..and I am not keen on Alan titchmarsh as a presenter(Love him as a gardening presenter though) and I dont like Myleen Klass as a presenter tbh. crikey I may have to record this and play it through just for the Darius bits!!! I knew our new v+ box would come in handy!!

I don't think the next album will be operatic, Michael Bublé style and sound is much closer.
that sounds good - I loved Darius at the jazz night, far better than MB and the little tuneless one...james, jamie..nope names gone cullum..

Meg I feel the same. I'm not looking forward to this at all, too much can go wrong, because I feel he won't be judged on his voice, especially by those judges. There's too much to lose. I'm going to find it really hard to watch and wouldn't watch it if he wasn't on it. Sue

If the public are voting it'll be won by those with the largest fan base. I think that the fact that singing ability no longer is required in some of these programmes puts me off. Wishing for an album and getting an operatic competition just about sums things up for me.

What a negative person I seem to have turned into. I just feel that I'll end up seething because he wont be appreciated. I don't want him to not do anything but this really worries me - just for a change.

Thank goodness for that!! thank you Rachel

We must remember that many, many people will think that Darius 'fell off the face of the earth' a long time ago and he will be a distant memory! Hopefully he will appeal to the audience of this new show the same way that he did in his Pop Idol days and his fans of that era will appreciate him again and vote for him (assuming, of course, that a public vote will be involved!). He had over a million votes in the final, didn't he??!! It must be something that he wants to do - we all know how he loves a challenge :D and it will show everyone what a really wonderful voice he has wherever he actually comes in the contest

Julie

Wish I could be more positive like you Julie. Perhaps that should be my New Years resolution. I just feel worried like Meg. Sue
Maybe we've seen too many things go wrong at the moment. Anyway, might as well wait until we see what happens. I have no doubt of Darius' talent - I just don't trust TV programmes.

same here, I know Darius' talent - but some how it seems rather odd for him to pop up with a name change, cant help worying what people will think of that.

I didnt think much of the trailer I saw, the opera man singer scared me LOL - I dont even know how many will watch it as its on along side skating on ice, and celeb BB -

Now we just need tickets and updates. I'm just now looking forward to it as we'll see Darius and hear him sing. I really can't complain about that.

I have just watched the trailer.........brief glimpses of each contestant practising singing, then Katherine Jenkins and

Rolando Villazon.

Rolando has been off the stage for a while, but has now had surgery on his vocal cords and is ready to sing again.

Seems quite a personality, and he can certainly sing - several youtubes.

Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen, apart from being a make-over king, is a Classic FM DJ.

Alan Titchmarsh presents Radio 2's light classical show.

But I can think of no classical music connection for Meatloaf (Marven Lee Aday). Can anyone?
