I wondered about this when we first heard it. It did sound as though it'd be aimed at tenors and sopranos. I wonder if the now realise that not everyone fits. I wonder if the fact that not everyone fits will alter things. If not, it could be hard going for Darius. He wont stop trying though.

was reading another forum, and some good comments re Darius - one siting the gorgeous deep second line of the aria from Darius, and liking h=the fact that he connected with the Aria and brought something fresh to it - I have to agree, as I too know that feeling of bordem of that song heard so often - somehow it felt like a different more meaningful aria done the Darius way,

re comment about aimed at tenors, if they do that then it will be glaringly obvious Darius is being put at a disadvantage every week!, as so many comments on different boards pointing out that he is a baritone, I really hope he does get arias for a baritone, then again - if he does what he did with the last one, it should be all good

If they give him tenor arias in the future I shall begin to think he is being set up.
As if that could ever happen to Darius. I don't think so though. They may have his range wrong but the vocal coaches are working well with him and he is certainly getting results.

I wish this programme had a decent behind the scenes short extra show like they have with Strictly and DOI.

I'd gladly do without the dreadful "The Hour" on STV here to fit one in.

ATM It feels like penny pinching, flying a kite to see if it takes off. Reading around on the net, I think there's a genuine interest in the programme people thought they were getting. It which it should be more than just a few pop singers singing an aria every week. they'll have to bin the screaming kids though!

If you read the very early posts in September when the idea was just floated, it was clear people were dreading hearing yet another non opera singer sing Nessun Dorma. I think many people have reached saturation level with it. Having a bass baritone sing it gave it a novel slant.

Have any of them tweeted today? Do they get the weekend off?

I wonder when we'll hear what they're singing this week. Everyone left in is a good singer. The song choices could be vital especially as there's much less time to learn them.

There should be more time if they keep the length of their arias the same as last week. There'll be no need to introduce everybody at the start.

Can we club together for a large velcro patch to attach to Meat Loaf's pants to keep him in his seat?

I would contribute for that and also for either a gag or some therapy to stop him trying to impersonate an evangelist

Sorry I've been so long. Lyn's car broke down on the way home from work and I had to go help.

I waited outside on Friday night until 11.45pm but no sign of D So no pics from then just the day before and only took 4 then. I had planned to stay until midnight, but another fan waiting for Kym had got info that there was a bar open for them until 1am, so it would be unlikely to catch them anyway. Plus the fact that I was the only person waiting for D which always feels a little uncomfortable for me.

So pics, not great but as Meg says, it has been somewhat of a barren spell. I'm hoping this will change :naughty: Taken with my old and battered, but much loved, Olympus C-765 compact camera :)

Regarding the songs for the coming weeks, I feel they must have already been learning a number of songs(just the basics) which when they win through to next weeks show, they will then re-visit during the week to perfect. This is just my opinion, but I feel it's unlikely that they would be given songs fresh with only 1 week to prepare.

Sitting behind us were 2 of the vocal coaches for the show. They seemed quite unpleasant people and were decidedly unimpressed by the standard of the contestants opera voices. I asked who had made the choices for the arias, but they didn't actually know. I have to say, I was decidedly unimpressed with them, and felt they were arrogant and very pretentious. I also felt they were suffering with jealousy, probably never having acheived a fraction of the fame or adulation of each contestant involved.

I would dearly love to go along again, but with money, rota and will D still be in issues, I think it's unlikely I will be able to do it :(

It was great to see people again though so will have to see what happens :)

Excellent pictures Paul.

It was good to see you and thanks for the ticket.

Lets hope this leads to many new Darius gigs............but not opera

Copying these over from Bits and pieces:-

I'm never sure which thread to put these in to.

some lovely pics, and screen shots thanks for those!

as Preston posts..if they give Darius another tenor aria I will be wondering!!

the speel does say can we make tenors and sopranos out of popstars..

ronaldo is a tenor

so many posts pointing out D is a baritone and needs a deeper aria, perhaps if they give him a tenor we should get as many queries into the shows site as I feel that is really being unfair to Darius!

I have read some great comments on his facebook site, where poeple are recommending certain arias - nice to read such interesting posts

Hi

Just wanted to add my 'Well Done' to Darius. I was lucky enough to be at both shows and the nerves are really there for all of the contestants. I thought D did fantastic in both shows but Friday he really got that note. As Paul has already said the studio seems over run with Danny fans then Jimmy, but the Danny fans in front of us said Darius had sung the best :D and I have to say they did also give D a huge cheer.

I hope that more D fans are lucky enough to get tickets as it would be great for him to have some more support in the studio. I did find out that Jimmy had a competition on his website for 2 tkts, it would be nice if we had the same.

Also agree with Paul re the vocal teachers, who thought it was fine to tell off the Danny fans for shouting etc, they are young girls who were excited to 1, be in a TV studio and 2. to not only see Danny but the rest of Mccfly who had come to support him inthe audience.

I am not a fan of Laurence or Meat to be honest and think 3 judges more along the lines of Katherine would have been better

Take Care

Sue

The trouble is - the tenor arias are the popular ones. To give him an unknown aria would put him at a disadvantage - to sing an aria out of his range would give him a disadvantage. That lad causes me more worry than most.

Edited to say , I'm glad we got to meet up, Paul. I hope it's not too long before we can again. Thanks for the pics - we needed them.

Edited by megham

We've seen him in the West End, if anyone has the personality and talent to 'sell' lesser known baritone arias to the GBP, it's Darius.

It's a pity he didn't sing Nessun Dorma in character, dressed in flowing robes.

But is it believable that any princess would refuse his proposal and threaten to behead such a beautiful man?

Edited by Baytree

Now theres an idea, have them dressed as fitting!

the problem must be we have been inundated with the popular tenor arias because its the tenor stars we see all the time on TV etc,

I did enjoy reading what the aria came from in context - I have no idea of operatic stories,

so reading about Nessum Dorma and in what context and setting it is sung makes it much more interesting, I shall endeavour to read up any song D sings next week - but I thought he conveyed the feeling of the song well,

Edited by prettyinpink

News of the world. There is virtually a full page on Danny of Mcfly. He is asked about the other contestants. This is what he says about D.never underestimate anyone he has a great voice. Ian Hyland same paper says and I am having trouble remembering this as didnt buy it. He makes out that ITV are picking all the arias that have been in adverts.£10 on Darius singing Go compare next week he says. That is the advert with the tenor and the long twisted moustache in evening dress but a tenor at that.

Thank you for the photos and the screen shots. Paul, that 2nd picture is stunning!

After watching the programme again(and again) , this time without the nerves, it made me realise just how good they all were and how hard they must have worked. Perhaps not Alex, but even he entertained. It's a pity that anyone has to be voted off. They should all have been allowed to work together and we could have seen more of the training and then perhaps they could have put on a performance at the end and the tickets could have been sold to raise money for the charity. Or am I being naive? Sue
