When they get around to finding bass baritone pieces for Darius, I hope they also get around to finding him a talented bass baritone mentor.

Otherwise, he'll still be at a disadvantage. Neither Katherine nor Rolando can sing that low so Darius will not be able to sing exactly the same notes with them, as the others can.

The vocal coaches work with all ranges. I doubt they'll get another well known singer in just for Darius. He will work well with the vocal coaches though - even if they do despise pop singers who attempt opera.

I dont suppose it matters that Rolando cant sing as low as Darius, katehrine Jenkins posted she was off to see Darius for a session yesterday? and no way would she be able to LOL

I suppose they are there to guide and show technique etc

And it sounded as though they are doing that to the best of their ability - of which they have plenty.

I wonder if Darius was told he'd have to only use his tenor range.

well thats not right if they have - there seem to be plenty of baritone arias, Toreador is as famous as Nessun Dorma in my book - Darius perhaps dressed as a Bull fighter..whoops, I think I may have found a way to get into Opera, I already have been reading about the opera Nessun comes from - and putting Darius into Calafs role - I never actually thought of the actual aria before its meaning or lyrics, but it is a beautiful song now I understand more about it.
He was very good on 'Loose Women'. He seemed relaxed, happy and was just himself. The best interview I've seen him do in quite a while.

One of the ladies at the lunch club watched the show and she said of Darius " He still loves himself, but then he is very good"

That is worrying if that's what's coming over to non-fans. I think it might have been down to the VT introduction, rather than anything he did on the show.

I missed Loose Women. I'll try and catch the repeat.

lovely, thanks Megham -

a lot of peole have the view Darius loves himself - but when others speak in the exact same way, they dont seem to notice..

and funny how someone who is proud of what they have done is deemed self loving in a negative way,

while those who are indeed awful role models, some intent on degrading themselves with lifestyles, drugs and drink etc are looked up to - people are contrary in what they admire.

Interesting interview, he idd look great, loved the comments by Lesley

Carmen..oh my lord..Toreador?? what other arias are in Carmen

this is an except from a site explaining Carmen, ther seem to be quite a few baritones in these operas,

In Escamillo's 'Toreador Song' (where the singer is asked to sing 'fatuously'), Bizet knew that the song would be popular, but commented "They want their trash, and will get it".

I ACTUALLY THINK THIS PROGRAM IS WORKING _ I have never been inquisitive about Opera, to me its always been fat sweaty guys that tbh, I dont really want to see singing something I dont understand, even tough I can appreciate they can sing well. LOL

now seeing that things make sense to me if Darius is doing them.. perhaps if Darius could something on maths, I may actually learn how to do percentages...

I watched it too Meg and was so pleased with 'how he came across' - just a normal friendly Darius - the one we all know and love! :D His philosophy that life is too short and nomatter what, he is always polite and friendly towards people, whoever they are and he is always up for a challenge. Did you hear him say that he is writing songs for people in America (and he mentioned American Idol)? His Dad is doing well and Darius is just enjoying himself - wonderful to hear!!

Oh, and did I mention..... he looked great too!! :D

Sounds good. Intriguing too.Worth staying up to see.

My son might even get a phone call from me in the early hours.

Carmen - great - French! He'll have done enough French at Glasgow Academy to know how the words are pronounced . Who knows he may even have a Higher (A level).

A lot depends on which sections they give him - it's 5 minutes long so they'll cut a verse and a chorus and some of the instrumental parts probably. I hope they keep verse 2 - the description of the bullfight.

Now can he have a head mic, a spanish style suit and freedom to act.

Re the songwriting, I remember seeing a message from someone on one of D's social networking sites thanking him for the compositions and saying they were great. At the time I wondered if he's sent some demos to a producer hw was collaborating with. I tucked it away in my memory because it intrigued me.
I've kept an eye out for that. It's interesting that an American Idol person is recording one of his compositions. Not the same as him singing it but very nice to hear.
