Another self satisfied bad review. No one is trying to say that it doesn't take many years to be an opera singer. No one could be more horrified than Darius on being given an aria out of his range. These people are so up their own backsides it'd be funny if they weren't attacking others.

Every contestant has said that it takes a life time commitment to be an opera singer.

These people come across as smug self important idiots.

Prat, that is my opinion - I feel ALW should now attempt to find the next star of Carmen - how pretentious some are, its like saying top sportsmen train for years to be the best - but no one else should have a go coz that would be an insult.

tbh, what is so special about Opera as a genre that makes it a crime for anyone to have a go?

I'll give D an extra vote on his behalf. Stephen (?) Bowman, the bass baritone member of Blake is also rooting for Darius.

This is the natural French performance of Toreador I mentioned previously.

If Darius could get anywhere near to the pronunciation and liveliness of this, I'd be thrilled. He's obviously not going to get anything like the same resonance from his voice because that would take years not weeks of practice.

That was better thanks BT......I may just get home in time to watch now :o

Thanks spam fritter. I agree that is the best version. Have listened to all the others. They will obviously shorten it but hope they shorten it well.

I must say that I thought that this was the best negative review - I've linked to it before.

I felt most sorry for Darius Danesh, who was incredibly short-changed by the programme. Since he debuted as Billy Flynn in Chicago, his stage presence has matured and so have his vocals. He made a decent Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, but an exceptional Rhett Butler in Gone With The Wind, a shining star in a show strewn with flaws. He genuinely has a beautiful tone to his voice, technical ability, and range — so why lumber a bass-baritone with Nessun Dorma, one of the most famous tenor arias in opera’s repertoire? Well, the clue’s in the question. It’s because it’s famous. Never mind that Darius doesn’t quite have the necessary top notes — just shift it down a few tones, the viewing masses will hardly notice.

I wish I liked baritone arias - I can't think of, or find one I really like. I think that being a baritone will work against him in this show.

Hopefully, Darius will get some of the more popular baritone-tenor arias first and build up a voting fan base, before he has to tackle the really deep ones which even I don't have the ear for.

He's melodic in bass, but how low can he go and still keep that?

They definitely have done some work on several arias. Marcella says in her blog that she's singing in German in week 3.

Also from Marcella comes the information that she went for drama tutoring this week. I'm taking it that Darius did too.

I'm looking forward to a cracking performance. I can still see Darius in the Havana scene in Guys and Dolls. He looked magnificently Latin.

Tweet from the pstos - Marcella is on Alan Titchmarsh' s show at 5.

She is singing in german in week 3 must mean she expects to get through to that week.
A fairly long blog review of the show and Darius comes off OK although the word cheat is used to describe the transposed ND.

am liking that a lot! was geting worried as I scrolled down - I have to agree, I have read comments where people are having trouble disassociating themselves from their perceptions of Darius, I mean the insult of it all, Darius singing Nessun Dorma - they can see the britney all over again but in Opera.LOL

another blog from an opera fan, and she was saying it was her problem that she didnt like Dariu, conceded he was the best male and good - but still wanted him to go due to her prejudice.

as for the continuous rot about the transposition, seemingly according to posts I have read a fair few have the keys changed in their arias

I don't think it's anything to do with expectation. I bet Alex James had 3 or 4 in his locker too.

I think they have to have them in advance to learn their "script". It isn't easy knowing what comes next in a foreign language you're unfamiliar with. The vocal coaches won't have enough time to take them through them line by line by rote. They can correct mispronunciation and get them to semi fit the words to the tune before Katherine and Rolando take over wh\t is shaping up to be an aria.

Can you believe someone on DS thought they were miming.

Darius is Marmite. Some love him, some hate him, no matter how talented he may be.

Darius held back a bit last week, as I thought he might for the first round.

Should he concentrate on his sound again this week or give it full West End welly if it's Toreador?

I hope we will all be voting like mad tonite.

I'm ashamed to say I can't this week. I've got a commitment I can't wriggle out of. I tried ,but it will cause a serious rift if I insist.

I will vote continuously from the moment the vote starts -

I hope he goves it some welly, If it is toreador it will need it, and Darius needs to show those who said he didnt perfrom Nessun that he can (even though tbh I thought he acted Nessun perfectly, )

I hope he gives it some welly also and doesnt stand so far back from the mike this week.
He will if he's told too. It's the lack of control over parts of this that worry me. He sounded so much happier, I keep thinking it'll be OK for him - which makes me worry even more. Even when he does really well he gets clobbered.

I would like to see D have a face mic this week so its a level playing field for them all.

I would like to see a Matador outfit but enough of my fantasies...
