In our local paper there is a small article about this because Danny Jones is from Bolton. It lists the people taking part but describes Darius 'Danesh' as Pop Idol reject! Sue

I've seen that said before. I also notice that the ad has Darius looking in the mirror and singing me..me..me. So I think we're onto the arrogance thing again. Again, it makes you so aware that they have no knowledge of Darius as a person.
He got on well with Katharine in 'Songs of Praise'. Darius is his own man and while I'll (often) say what he doesn't want to hear, I very much expect and respect him making his own decisions. Doesn't stop me worrying.

Pip, you type [ youtube] then add the clip ID which comes after the = which in this case was ba940zQ2sgg then type [ /youtube] and it gives you the hosted vid. I have had to type in a space to show the code but there should be no spaces at all in the code so that the video shows correctly.

I'll have to try and remember that, Paul.

Just to put the stills on.

lovely to see you posting Baytree and congrats to your posting on DS. I dont know what to make of him doing this show. I feel he is setting himself up for sniping from people who have no idea what he can do and there are plenty of them. like PIP I shall probably be behind the sofa unable to watch. He is deserving of much more.

Are we paranoid or have they already started with the D downing??? His is the only name without a surname(granted this may be because he is known previously as just Darius, and his surname adjustment may also be a factor) and he is the only one singing me me me too  Maybe I'll be joining you ladies behind that settee

Darius is a big boy though, so whatever happens, he'll come through ok, fingers crossed :)

Darius is what he was known as when he released his pop albums, so I think they're quite right to list him that way in the ad. i don't think there's any hidden agenda to that.

Well, that's one thing down - now for the rest. I do expect McFly, The Saturdays and Coronation Street to win though.

OMG cant wait to see Darius on this  !....but i hope that he dosn't change to opera after this!

Wonder why he is using the name Campbell though??It dosn't sound right, and is no way as nice as Danesh!

So do I, megham, but not necessarily based on how they perform.

In saying that, Vanessa White does seem to have a very good voice.

She does - so does Marcella Detroit. I'm still trying to hear something from the others to compare. I realise it is a matter of personal taste but not necessarily of talent. Lym has a good voice too but maybe not quite as good as those three. But she has more support than at least 2 of them and so should be in the final.

Listen to Darius again. He's not singing me me me ...........although I think Kym may be.

He's doing that repetitive voice warming exercise - the eeeeeeeeeeee oh

eeeeeeeeeee ooh eeeeeeeeeeeee ah one and he's at the ah repetitions.

I've seen singers doing those before. Did the cast of GWTW do something like it to warm up their voices when they first worked with the band on the TCM documentary?

Edit ; Kym is only singing ee ee ee ee ee ee ee

Why does Danny Jones not sing here?

Edited by Baytree

I have read it before - I just thought of the amount of stamina required for GWTW. It's a 'my kind of music is the only truly valuable one' type of article.

it's just someone elese with an axe to grind about dumbing down.

This part is very true of GWTW in particular.

"Real opera singers don’t just sing the highlights, they have to get through the whole show, in character. And that takes a nerve and stamina - and histrionic ability - which the programme will not do anything to test."

I distinctly remember Darius being acclaimed for "mastering that most difficult of arts - singing in character".

Thanks, Bramley

I'll be watching it though. I know how well he can sing. Not what I would have chosen him to do but he knows what he's doing and I shall wait and see. At least I'll hear him singing, if not the type of music I prefer.
