Have your tickets come, BP? Mine have not arrived yet - I'm getting worried.

If so, did they come by post or e-mail?

They are all email ones, Bramley. The post is too dodgy. Which day did you apply for?
anglain have added a clip of kym marsh to their blog, so I suppose Danny is next then Darius, was that the order they are on on the ITV site

That's the way it seems to be going. Danny should be on soon, then Darius tomorrow - I hope.

Just edited to say that Kym was put up yesterday. If they don't put blogs on the weekend, they wont get everyone up before the show.

I hope they put up something decent for Darius - From A Distance would be acceptable but we'll probably get Colourblind again!

We know opera stars work hard because they are so dedicated and focused but they aren't the only ones.

“During rehearsals, a principal soprano singing a leading role can be on stage from 7am until 10pm.”

I think Jill Paice may have been on stage longer! The GWTW cast were working 16 hour days and doing 8 shows a week sometimes performing several different versions over the week.

What Darius learned from working with a top notch musical director ( Gareth Valentine) and arranger (William Brohn) on building the songs organically and tweaking them so often, will stand him in very good stead.

He always works with his vocal coach when he's preparing for a role. I've no doubt he could stand in front of an orchestra and sing without a microphone. He has a big voice.

The daily mail tv programme for the week puts Popstar to operastar as "Pick of the day" on friday.
Ticket via email to print off Bramley. What day do you want to go?
It'd be nice if he sings in English but, since it's D, I think he'll be one singing in a foreign language

I don't think they'll be given any choice. They'll be told what to sing and shown how to sing it.

My heart sank at the mention of Nessun Dorma in that article because it's been done to death by just about every crossover artist and would-be opera singer.

I don't want Darius to have to sing that.

The adverts for this seem to be showing more regularly now. Looking forward to hearing Darius again, just wish there was no public vote. Sue
Me too. I could just sit and enjoy watching if it wasn't for that. It brings the money in.

A new ITV show along the lines of Fame Academy. I don't really know where to start - perhaps the official ITV press release:

the eight contestants will be trained to perform world famous opera songs – many of them learning... a completely different language than they are used to.

Amazing.

It must be said that ITV aren't mucking about here. In addition to the ususal suspects - Alan Titchmarsh and Myleene Klass presenting and Katherine Jenkins as a 'mentor' - they've also secured the services of Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen (yes, I thought he was an interior designer too, but he's also a Classic FM DJ), Meat Loaf (!) and, this the grand coup, Rolando Villazon.

A fine tenor of true operatic pedigree, Signor Villazon has been having terrible vocal trouble of late and this digression into the world of pretend-opera may well be the man dabbling in the commercial during a protracted convalescence. Rupert Christiansen, writing for the Daily Telegraph about this show has an interesting opinion on his involvement.

The taken-as-read roster concludes with Paul Potts, Andrea Bocelli & Susan Boyle.

As for the participants, well it's again a good broad mix of age and background, though everyone is already music-oriented. Alex James is probably the joker in the pack, given his showing in the BBC's Maestro. Young and pretty is covered by a couple of out-and-out popstars, McFly's Danny Jones and The Saturdays' Vanessa White as well as Klass' former band-mate Kym Marsh and the reality-pop chameleon Darius (NB, Darius Campbell, that is, having changed his surname for the show).

The older contestants are Bernie Nolan and Jimmy Osmond who, I suspect, may be better placed to do well in the show having had a career in singing rather than the posing that constitutes so much of modern pop performance. I think the wild card though is Marcella Detroit, formerly of Shakespeare's Sister and about whom few from the worlds of opera/crossover-wallpaper know anything at all. Will she be a good, fresh blast of rock-n-roll in this otherwise cliché-moribund exercise in beige schedule-filling (and shameful arts mis-education)?

The show starts on January the 15th, going to air at 9pm on Friday evenings.

Another one who knows absolutely nothing about Darius or his abilities.

It's as if everything Darius has done since February (August) 2002 has been wiped off the slate.
Not wiped off - never been. How can one branch of the media not know what's done in another branch? GWTW would be put as a personal failure for him though - when he got the best reviews in what was a good musical - whatever the critics said.

Oh, great info on their pick of the day - contestants and judges unknown at time of printing.

If it's simply a straight public vote or do the judges get to save one after they sing again, like DOI or Strictly?

Does anyone else think that D being left out of reports of this show is deliberate and does anyone else think that the one that sings in a foreign language will be at a disadvantage in the voting perhaps not by the opera buffs but by the general public. However I noticed one of the candidates singing la donne mobile which is very well known so perhaps they will stick to well known pieces.
I bet Darius would love a foreign language peice. I wish he's act in something that requires him to use his own accent.
Has anyone any idea how we add pics to popstars to operastars facebook?

In the box where you write on the page wall underneath it says Attach so click the second icon shown to attach a photo and upload, the photo will then show on the wall and in the fan photo section.
