The flaws of over-representing the UK sales in this chart have surfaced now when "Fight For This Love" is hitting in several European countries at the moment yet nowhere to be found in this chart...

:o That's incredible to see Stromae enter straight in at no. 1 - such a shame they no longer show MTV European Top 20 on any of the UK music channels. Imagine teenagers in the UK watching this and then wondering what the hell the song at no. 1 is!!! :lol:

The last song I remember entering at no. 1 was Elton John 'Candle In The Wind 1997'. Maybe there's been one or two since then but I can't remember any others having such a massive first week impression.

Robbie Williams also has been a new entry at number one last year.In the chart from 02.11.2009 he went straight to the top with "Bodies".That song as well as Take That's "Back For Good" and Elton John's tribute song are the only ones to be so high in their first week in the chart.But i guess this will become regular in the future due to some well known reasons,discussed here before.Despite that it's still a good chart.

It's such a pity that I'm checking the Eurochart from time to time! "Alors En Danse" by Stromae is number 1 there so I wasn't as flabbergasted as I could be when I saw the song at number 1 in MTV European Top 20... If I hadn't checked the Eurochart, after I watched positions 10-2 on European Top 20, I would have been sure that "Bad Romance" by Lady GaGa has returned to number 1... And then, when they played "Alors En Danse" at the top, I wouldn't have believed my eyes! Who knows - maybe that would have been the biggest shock I have experienced EVER while watching European Top 20...

Anyway, the last time a song sung in a language different than English appeared in the chart was in 2005 - "La Tortura" by Shakira and Alejandro Sanz, which, just like "Alors En Danse", became number 1 in European Top 20.

I think it's only fair that any non-English language tracks that are clearly very popular in various different European countries deserves its place in the MTV European Top 20 - that's exactly what the chart is supposed to represent.

Stromae has the weirdest chart run ever

There is an explanation for Stromae's chart run - as you know, nowadays MTV European Top 20 is based on the Eurochart but from time to time there are editions which are not based on it - "made up" editions (but which for me are much more true to the spirit of European Top 20). Last week's edition, when "Alors On Danse" fell 1-8, was one such edition. However, this week they have used the Eurochart again and since Stromae is number 1 there, "Alors On Danse" goes 8-1! By the way, there is a new number 1 in the Eurochart but I guess this will be reflected in the next European Top 20 chart...

I dont think this weeks chart was based on the eurochart at all, yes Stromae is back at #1, but the rest of the chart is different.
