April 1, 201015 yr There's a new French chart launched at the beginning of this year. This chart contents physical sales, downloads, airplay and addictional album sales. I guess this chart gives a complete picture of the French musicscene. So I'm not surprised at "Undisclosed Desires" being at #11 this week, I was in France last week and it seemed to be on the radio all the time - I think Virgin Radio played it at the same time every day
April 1, 201015 yr ^^That chart is completely unnoficial though, remember that. I'm getting a little bit tired of the discussion about "official" charts. I guess a passport or ID-card is official. A chart isn't. That's what I remember :w00t: It's my opinion that this chart is more representive for the French market than the "official" one. Edited April 1, 201015 yr by Chartboost
April 2, 201015 yr It's my opinion that this chart is more representive for the French market than the "official" one. ...which not applies on your German chart... ;)
April 2, 201015 yr ...which not applies on your German chart... ;) These charts are not MY charts. I like the way of compiling them. Even the German chart. Once again: I think charts which contain Physical, Download, Airplay and album data give the best picture of the musicscene. Also in Germany. I guess it's the way of compiling charts for the near future. The "power" of record-companies and radio- & TV-stations has been reduced in favour of the consumers like you and me. :D

April 2, 201015 yr Since when does airplay make a chart more relevant? It completely destroys the Hot 100 chart, and it would kill the UK chart if it was included. You may think its more representative, but it doesn't make it the official French chart because that is only sales based. And if you're getting "tired", well there are other forums out there.
April 2, 201015 yr Does anyone have any idea when downloads are going to incorporated into the French singles chart? Dré did post about this a few weeksv ago saying in the Spring? When that finally happens, then the French singles chart will be FAR more accurate without the need of airplay. When you mention album sales I assume this means cherry picking tracks off albums. I don't see a problem with this - at least when an artist releases their third single off an album people won't have to wait for the single to be released. They can just download the album track instead and if a single version was released then sales would be combined like in the UK charts. As long as airplay isn't added, the French charts will be fine. Like Dre posted above, airplay does not determine what is popular in France. Only what is popular with producers at radio stations. God forbid we allowed Radio 1 to rot our singles charts - their A-list has a big influence on 11-16 year olds in the UK as it is.
April 2, 201015 yr Everybody his own opinion so to say. But the music industry is more that buying a single-track in the stores. Albums which have single tracks in the download-, airplay- or physical-charts are sold many times more than the single-tracks.
April 2, 201015 yr Says who? You only need one look at the UK airplay chart to spot many tracks that are getting played but have poor sales. The other way round also applies, where is the German #1 hit by Stromae in the german airplay chart? Well down low. Airplay can be easily manipulated by record producers, radio dj's, etc.
April 2, 201015 yr @Dré: That's what I mean. When a chart uses 4 different elements to compile a chart you get a more representative chart, which picturize the musicscene of a country. In The Netherlands a #1 in the single-chart sells about 400 copies etc. etc. And that's the "official" chart so to speak in your words. I've worked for more than 25 years in the music bussiness in Belgium and The Netherlands. A chart compiled by only sales is not a problem for me, but it gives not a complete picture. In the UK the single-sales are declining. This will only continue in the future I guess. It's good to see that there are charts which are compiled completely innovative.
April 2, 201015 yr LOL. Single sales declining in the UK is the most ridiculous thing you've said. They're at their highest since like 2001 or 2002. Airplay is completely irrelevant to the UK chart.
April 2, 201015 yr @Dré: My information about the UK music market is probably different than yours. I think you're right, but that would be in contrast to the rest of Europe and America. It makes me curious about the elements that APC-stats uses for their British National Top-50. :)
April 2, 201015 yr Well Iyaz 'Replay' sold 100k and it looks like Scouting For Girls are heading the same way this week. Rewind to 2006 and Orson hit no. 1 in the UK selling a pitiful 17k. Singles sales in the UK have been boosted all thanks to legal download sites like iTuns, 7Digital, Amazon, etc... Give it another year or so and perhaps we might be witnessing the single sales boom (massive sales, even moreso than now) as more and more people start joining iTunes. Remember the UK Government want every home in the UK to have internet access - so more people with access to iTunes? 2011 could be a great year as long as prices stay the way they currently are. Exploting this charging £1.50 or more for an mp3 currently worth 79p is not the way forward. ...and slightly back on topic, Stromae is doing brilliantly in Europe. #1 in France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Luxumburg and I notice the track has gone top 10 in Greece so who knows. :D
April 6, 201015 yr Hi. Anyone know where I can get a decent French Music Chart Reference book for my website research. Thanks
