It quite frequently pops in and out of the iTunes top 100 here and has done for the last few years - currently #221.

I'm sure it's only a matter of time before it becomes massive and gets the peak it probably deserves, but I think it will take it featuring in an ad campaign or being used as an X Factor performance to do so.

It's on an ad here already, for Lynx, which I presume is the same add it's on in Europe (though I think it's called Axe there). What it would really need is airplay. I find it unsufferably bland unfortunately, but it would add some diversity to the charts, and mean that we have a song that's been successful in Europe becoming successful in the UK for once.

It's getting airplay on Radio 2 and Heart (the biggest commercial network), and it's never going to get Radio 1 support

It just needs everyone buying it at the same time, I'm willing to bet it's sold a good 100k-200k at least in the last few years despite only peaking in the mid-40's in the UK. It's ALWAYS floating around on iTunes, and boosted every now and then, even if somebody performs the original arrangement of Over The Rainbow somewhere!

I don't like it either though, anyone remember that AWFUL Cliff Richard cover of this version of the song in 2001, got to #11 here, I think he was trying to get xmas #1 with it

'Somewhere Over The Rainbow' has already had a bizzare UK chart run thanks to the song trickle selling on iTunes since 2007.

So like GD pointed out, its peak to date is #46 but if some record company gives it another push then it could become a hit in 2011. Then again, it was quite common in the 80s/90s for old tracks to be used in TV commercials (particulars Levi jeans) and get a #1 out of it.
