Alot of people saying they think Jack is going to die next week with Chloe shooting him in the final scene to prevent a war between the US and Russia - although that would be an amazing ending to the show in terms of shock value it would kill off the whole franchise and the movies which would be insane on the writers part. Yes I know the movies could be prequels but itjust wouldnt be right.

Agreed - I'd almost rather we got this ending than the movie tbh!

I can't see Jack dying. But I don't think he'll end up killing the Russian president. Logan's definitely toast next week. At a guess i'd say Cole or Chole are going to die as well.

Really solid episode. Edge of the seat stuff. Agree about the Russian massacre... just seeing of them dead and they way they died shows you what Jack Bauer has become. I just can't believe it's taken him this long to finally lose his sanity...

I laughed out loud when Logan said 'It's Jack Bauer, he's coming for me'.

Apparently

Chloe has the last line of the show

This has revitalised hope for me we may see a Jack death yet :kink: I can't see it though :(

Yes apparently she says

"Shut it down"

Why are you hoping for Jack to die? :o I know it would be an amazing and shocking ending but I'll be sad enough with it being the last ever episode so don't want Jack to die as well.

Seriously cannnot wait for the final. The last episode was just so bloody good and a great way to lead up into the final. How on earth is Jack going to get the Russian President though? I doubt it will happen but some held from Tony and Aaron would be useful. ^_^

I'm pretty sure that Jack won't die, by Chloe having the final line it could just mean that they're setting up the films. BUT has there actually been a series that hasn't ended with Jack in the final shot?
I have butterflies. 1 hour 43!

You can watch it live on Fox? Where? :o

I am just watching Kiefer on Jay Leno on CNBC now.

From Wikipedia (but it's confirmed):

CTU series

Moments after the conclusion of the 24 series finale, it was previewed that not only is a 24 motion picture in the works, but NBC has gained the rights to a 24 formated series. The series will feature an entirely new cast and has been greenlit for 13 episodes starting in October 2010. Joel Surnow revealed that he wanted to keep the project a secret until the original series had ended.

Oh you are kidding me.. That'll be $h!t. 24 and any of its subsidarys will not be the same without Jack Bauer.

As for the finale itself, I was promised in the aspect of I was promised the biggest surprise ending ever :( BUT, it was a brilliant ending, powerful and emotional even if the count counting down backwards was a tad silly.

Ending was nearly not as good as I hoped. They just basically set it up for the movies. Can't believe NBC are gonna try and create 24 without Jack Bauer...NEVER GOING TO WORK.

Nowhere near as good as the LOST series finale, although I guess LOST had a bit more scope to delve in to as they weren't taking the show to the big screen...

It's going to be a TV-Movie actually

Pretty sure it's getting a big screen release. Everything i've read so far indicates that. Would be pretty pointless of them to just make a TV movie, infact what am I on about, it'd be an absolutely ridiculous decision.

I really hope so

Absolutelly amazing final - I have never been on the edge of seat as much watching a TV show or a film in my life as I was in the last 10 minutes - seriously phenomenal stuff. The last scene with Jack thanking Chloe was the PERFECT ending. I was so glad Jack did not die. I didnt want him to die anyway, but would've accepted it as an amazing ending had it been Chloe shooting him to prevent WW3 - but he would've died for nothing so I would've been infuriated had Logans henchmen killed him. It didnt end how I expected at all - I was sure Chloe having the last line with 'Shut it down was going to be a bad thing but it worked so effectivly. It set up for the films perfectly and means they won't be prequels which potentially could've been a disaster - I was no doubt about it that the film (and I am sure the sequels if it is a success) will be fantastic. And yes they will be proper films released in the cinemas - not TV movies. Redemption was already the TV movie afterall.

Overall it started out very slow and at times bland as a season but in the past 7 or 8 hours, I think from the peisode where Dana was revealed as the mole - it has been gripping television and has seeen some of the all time classic 24 moments. In compason to the Lost final - it's obviously hard to compare but tbh the lead up to the 24 final was in a totally different league to Lost - but the final themselves were both fantastic in my view with moving final shot with Jack Bauer and Jack Shepard respectivley - but 24 just edged it for me as I was on the edge of my seat and glued to the screen far more - and cared alot more about Jack in 24 than Jack in Lost, probably because I have experienced far more enjoyment of 24 over the years, espeically the first 5 series than I ever did with Lost. But both were amazing and it is so sad they are now over. TV is one bland place without them IMO. -_-

WOW!

Fantastic finale. Quite different to what I expected but great nonetheless. I hope the 24 rip-off show doesn't go ahead. It would be an insult, especially to Keifer who made the show.

I am glad they wrapped the Alison Taylor story up nicely. She should never have gone along with Logan. The thing that annoyed me about that storyline is that it goes everything we knew about her from Redemption/Season 7. She even sent her own daughter to prison for goodness sake for what she did against her country. I ended up feeling quite sorry for her in the end, Cherry Jones is such a brilliant actress.

The Chloe/Jack scenes in particular were excellent and at times quite moving; when Jack tells Chloe to shoot him and then in the final minutes when Jack says thanks to Chloe.

My own problem is that because it wasn't announced this would be the last series until half way through the series, maybe it could have been written a little better? If they had known from the start maybe things would have been a little different? It seems to have got little coverage compared to Lost. For me, 24 is the stronger show. It's much more consistent and deserves to go out with the recognition it deserves. Nevertheless it was very exciting right until the end and sets it up nicely for the film(s).
