January 12, 201015 yr I would have thought that singles would have sold more throught the chart positions, but single sales seem to drop off faster then album sales, hence from 15 onwards album sales are higher. I'd imagine that next year singles will sell more throughout the chart.
January 12, 201015 yr Jesus christ, those are almost identical throughout - an almost perfect correlation!! I'm not sure why I find that surprising, perhaps is just that I didn't expect them to be exactly the same. This is probably the cross-over point - from now onwards (at least for the foreseeable future) single sales at all positions will be higher than album sales (at that corresponding position).

But from vidcapper's figures it looks as if singles are higher from position 200 onwards, which isn't surprising given the download effect meaning so many singles are available for purchase for low prices ...

On normal weeks, album sales drop off more quickly than singles, especially for the highest positions.

I figured that, I didn't expect album sales to be as high as they were during the xmas period. Album sales didn't fall that much last year (4% decline?), but is that because there was an extra chart week (53 in total) last year? Normally there's 52 weeks.
