Of the three tracks Kingfisher is divine and lush in fact it might actually be the best thing I've ever heard her do; 81 is succinct and gorgeous; and Good Intentions Paving Company is err.... well there are several other tracks to hear so I'm sure this album is going to be her Physical Graffiti.

I can't wait. This album is more anticipated than Laura Marling's one for me <3
For some reason I thought this was out today. Not out until next Friday. :(
Just the moment I am intending to go sleep. TIDY

it's incredible.

not as good as ys but incredible. an interesting blend of the size of milk-eyed mender (aka shorter songs / more) and the styling of ys.

I would agree.

But if you only selected 60/70 minute of the best tracks it would surpass it IMHO.

I love the richer sound to her voice = less American Bjork & more American Tori Amos Kate Bush.

Apparently she developed vocal cord nodes which caused the change in her voice. She would still be singing like she did before had it not been for those. I sort of miss the squeals from Mender but the change is nice(ish).

In California is stunning. Owen Pallett's latest is very much in this album's vein. They're probably two of the most talented musicians around these days tbh. You'd like Owen, Rich. Very similar to Joanna, except male and gay. And with a violin.

I'm due to check it out soon. I know he did the fantastic string arrangements for Arcade Fire & The Last Shadow Puppets. Hang on he was (in) Final Fantasy wasn't he, in which case will definitely give it a listen.

Final Fantasy = Owen Pallett. He just changed his name due to legal reasons, and to create more of his own persona. Final Fantasy, while a nice homage to the a video game that inspired him musically / artistically, was a bit silly as he grew more popular. He's amazing. And yes, he did incredible string arrangements for Arcade Fire. Apparently he's working on their third album currently.

I just find him super similar to Joanna in the way they craft these beautifully complex and deep albums, and the mood you're in when you listen to them. Otherworldly tbh. They just create their own artistry as each album goes by. They also have incredibly loyal fanbases.

Right, I have it in my hand. It's hard cardboard box with three card cd sleeves inside. Each sleeve has a black and white photo of Joanna fixing her hair. A fourth one of her fixing her hair is used for the cover of the accompanying booklet. There is very little text on the cds. Just the number of the cd, 1, 2 or 3. The images on the cds are taken from various parts of the front cover.

The lyrics are printed.

Maybe this is common knowledge but the lyrics of '81 that I thought went...

seceded from the union in the year of '81

...actually go...

seceded from the union in the year of A.D. 1

When I was listening to the song today on Songbird I've noticed that too! (There's a special add-on i think that loads lyrics into the player and you can read them as soon as you start playing the song :o )

Maybe it's supposed to be like that... these two 'versions' are so similar, it's possible they decided to call it '81 out of simplicity.
