February 20, 201015 yr Some people say they don't remember Marcella Detroit Here she is as part of Shakespears Sister along with (ex-Bananarama member Siobahn Fahey) This was the biggest hit STAY which stayed at #1 for 8 weeks in 1992 - they had 10 hits btween 1990 & 1996 _eXw47qb4U0 what a superb record... as were all the Shakespears Sister singles from the 'Hormonally Yours' album. And, let's be honest, regardless of Joe Public, Marcella Detroit OWNED this show, start to her untimely finish... there really was only one winner...and it certainly wasn't Dreadful Darius and his toe-curling attempts or the Nolan bint.... Detroit was robbed, plain and simple.
February 20, 201015 yr I'm delighted that Darius won (not least because I had a £5 bet on him to win at 11/2, Bernie was 1/7 odds on fav to win = ring any bells Pop Idol 1 final - Will v Gareth.). To be fair he was definitely the best on the night of the final as Bernie seemed nervous for the first time this series which impacted on her vocals in places, whilst Darius seemed totally assured as he had obviously come through his glass ceiling for reality talent contests by getting past the Semi-Final and just seemed delighted to be in the Final, as he knew the odds plus the Loose Women promo for Coleen's sister meant he felt he had absolutely nothing to lose. Still no doubt the Darius haters will put his victory down to BBC2's Top Gear encouraging their fans to vote for him in the Final in an act of revenge on Loose Women's ill deserved victory over Top Gear in the TV Awards recently. As for those of you saying Marcella should of won the series, I think you are forgetting whilst unquestionably Marcella had the best voice in the contest (passing the Stevie Wonder/Ray Charles test), visually watching her performances left something to be desired as her face was frequently too intense and uncomfortable to watch.
February 20, 201015 yr But it's a singing competition - not a performance competition - and unquestionably the only singer of the lot who could actually make it in the opera world was Ms Detroit. Darius is just cringe inducing, he makes me flinch every time I even see him nevermind hear him.
February 20, 201015 yr Sorry. You're wrong. Opera ,as opposed to pop singing or the sort of classical crossover favoured by Katherine, Il Divo, Russell Watson, Paul potts etc.,is very much about getting into character and singing in character. It is very much a performance spectacle. I wanted a Marcella/ Darius final. Marcella could/should make clasical albums but she'd never be able to take part in an opera. With more training Darius just may be young enough to tick that off on his to-do list.

Opera is as much about the performance as it is about the singing, and Marcella's performances were cringeworthy. Whilst her voice was magical, her performances were terrible. Bernie should've won, she had an incredible voice, and performed brilliantly. I was gutted when she came second :snif:
