January 15, 201015 yr I'm sorry, but saying "Britney took risks with her music" and similar statements is a bit silly if other people did it for her and modelled her. She's basically a blank canvas for other people to work their magic on. She has taken risks, see my point about Everytime. Find me one 'generic' pop star who has even come to do this before? And I didn't mention it, but Toxic was a huge electropop song. Created far before the likes of Lady Gaga's or Ke$ha's. Edited January 15, 201015 yr by danieljohn.

And I didn't mention it, but Toxic was a huge electropop song. Created far before the likes of Lady Gaga's or Ke$ha's. In The Zone was definitely her most artistic album to date. She co-wrote several of the songs and even co-produced Everytime. Two of the ones she co-wrote also went on to be singles. She also made the bold move to work with alot of new producers. So yes ITZ was a risk on her part... and her creativity paid off. I wish she would do another album where she was heavily involved with the process.

It is one of the best pop songs of the decade, definitely, but it was still handed to her on a plate like everything else. Plus Cathy even sings it better in the demo version.

That's actually not the demo if I am thinking about the same thing? If it has the Bloodshy & Avant production? She got the lyrics and basic melody from Cathy. She hired Bloodshy & Avant to produce the song, she actually paid B&A out of her own pocket because Jive was against her using the song. Cathy did do backing vocals, and that has been around youtube as the "demo"... but it's not.
January 15, 201015 yr Also, if we're mentioning Toxic. Don't forget Britney fought for that song to be released as the 2nd single from ITZ. They wanted Outrageous because of some deal with R. Kelly, but Britney fought. And got her way. As Tyler has said, she chose to work with diverse producers. When everyone was working with Timbaland, Britney went to his protégée Danja, she cut out the middle man and together created some of her best tracks.
January 16, 201015 yr http://blog.newsok.com/staticblog/files/2008/02/katebush2.jpg That is all. Edit: Osht just the past 10 years? Erm, I guess I'd say the likes of Joanna Newsom, Karin from The Knife, Leslie Feist, Lady Gaga, Robyn, the girls of Sleater-Kinney, etcetc.
January 16, 201015 yr apart from medicated soap and the thread originator, we seem to have got the subject of the thread mixed up here because every other poster seems to be naming 'Music for Queens' not 'Queens of Music'.... :(
January 16, 201015 yr Mariah Carey is Queen forever
January 16, 201015 yr Britney was a very good and consistant artist until her very public breakdown. If you had said to me 5/6 years ago when 'Toxic' and 'In The Zone' was about that she was the modern day Madonna then yes I would have agreed and would've happily given her the acoloade of 'Queen of the last decade'. However, she's now nothing more than just a big name star ala Victoria Beckham who is constantly in the papers and seems to have no drive or ambition as far as her music is concerned. Her p*** poor output since 2007 reinforces this in my opinion. Yes the songs are still reasonably good but when compared to the songs that made her an icon she has lost it completly. Gaga seems to be the replacement right now and will probably be around for a long time to come but whether or not she can maintain the quality of 'The Fame' is yet to be seen. I want to say P!nk tbh. I think that woman is amazing and whilst she is not the first to persue the type of music she does, she isdifferent and miles ahead of all the other female artists. She has only become bigger and bigger with each album she releases and has a brilliant back catalogue and personality with the vocal ability to back it up. She may not have changed the world or been in the tabloids every other damn week but for me she is the true music queen of the last decade.
January 16, 201015 yr Author Where is this trail lazing that Britney did back in 1998? Wearing a school uniform? Haha. She hasn't, repeat HAS NOT done anything that would put her in the running for the Queen of Music.
January 16, 201015 yr Author It's too soon to say if Gaga will be great. Although in my balanced opinion her first year beats the first year of most other female pop singers of this decade. If she goes weird and changes then she will be a force to be reckoned with.
January 16, 201015 yr Queen of music is Madonna that's everybody knows. After her the next Queen is Britney without a doubt!
January 16, 201015 yr Chartwise, in Britain, for consistency and quality, then obviously the queen of music is Madonna..... Britney, Carey etc all lag far behind. And Leona Lewis looks finished already with this dire second album. Personally, my queen of music for the last decade has been Roisin Murphy - not only has she released the best electropop album of the past 10 years with 'Overpowered', she's consistently interesting, stylish, challenging, vocally brilliant... everything a pop star should be. And not forgetting her classic work with Moloko - 'Statues' alone is one of the finest albums ever made. She's criminally overlooked in Britain.... so shame on us, the stuff she's been releasing this past 10 years the likes of Kylie and Madonna would sell their wombs for. Closely followed by Bjork, Alison Goldfrapp and probably the world's greatest vocalist, Dame Shirley Bassey who will sing the likes of Carey and Lewis under the table - even now in her 70s. It's ridiculous to count GaGa etc yet after just one album.
January 16, 201015 yr There is only one Queen of Pop and that is Beyonce-her work ethic, versatility, creativity and the fact that she is a great singer, dancer and performer. She gives 100 percent and is great with her fans, I think maybe five years ago Britney was the Princess of Pop and Madonna has had her day but Beyonce rules.

I'm all for opinion... but Beyonce is NOT the queen of pop. And I'm not saying Britney is either. But Beyonce doesn't even make pop music 70% of the time.
