January 14, 201015 yr Author Gavin Ryan's Chart Commentary (thanks to Gavin Ryan) Owl City top-and-tail the Top 50 singles this week, as their second week at No.1 with "Fireflies" (DL: 1 hold) (and picking up a Platinum certification) is joined by their new single "Vanilla Twilight" which enters the Top 100 at No.50 this week. Plus their album "Ocean Eyes" jumps into the album Top 50 at No.49 this week. Ke$ha's single "Tik Tok" (DL: 2 hold, Phys: 2 hold) is still ticking away at No.2, and also picked up a Platinum certification, making it two times Platinum now, plus her debut album is out in stores this coming week. Lady GaGa matches herself on both the singles and album chart at No.3, with "Bad Romance" (DL: 4 to 5, Phys: 4 to 5) and "The Fame Monster" both spending a second week at No.3 for this year. Jay-Z's "Empire State of Mind" (DL: 7 to 3) peaked at No.4 in December 2009, and re-peaks their this week, up three places from last week, whilst Jason DeRulo stays put at No.5 for a second week with "Whatcha Say" (DL: 3 to 4). Stan Walker has been No.1 in New Zealand for the past six weeks, and this week his former No.2 single "Black Box" (DL: 5 to 6, Phys: 1 hold) is down two places to No.6, and bucking-a-trend Jay Sean and his track "Down" (DL: 8 to 7) is back up one place to No.7 (it had been dropping a single place the past six weeks). "Starstrukk" (DL: 6 to 9) by 3OH!3 and Katy Perry is at No.8 and up one places to No.9 is Iyaz and his debut track "Replay" (DL: 10 to 8). The No.1 single of 2009, "I Gotta Feeling" (DL: 15 to 10) by The Black Eyed Peas jumps back into the Top 10 at No.10, now spending it's 21st week in the Top 10. For the third week in a row, Pitbull and his "Hotel Room Service" (DL: 11 to 12, Phys: 37 to 36) is stuck at No.11, whilst Michael Buble's "Haven't Met You Yet" (DL: 16 to 11) jumps back up the charts four places to a new peak of No.12. Scoring a new peak at No.18 is The Black Eyed Peas with "Rock That Body" (DL: 27 to 16), up nine places this week, and becoming their fourth Top 20 hit from their current No.4 album "The E.N.D.". Lady GaGa also scores another hit in the Top 20 as her track "Telephone" (DL: 20 to 19) is up three places to No.19. Up thirteen places to No.23 is local group The Temper Trap and their single "Sweet Disposition" (DL: 35 to 23). Jay Sean's second single debuted last week, and this week "DO You Remember?" (DL: 42 to 35) climbs six places to No.37. David Guetta scores the TWO biggest climbing singles of the week, as his latest track, "Memories" (DL: 36 debut) jumps up thirty-eight places to land inside the Top 40 at No.35, plus his first single from the current No.21 album "One Love", "When Love Takes Over" jumps back into the Top 50 at No.44, up thirty-four places. Also jumping into the Top 50 is first time charter Justin Bieber at No.42 with his single "One Time". The highest new entry is taken from a group who first charted in 1958, and scored four Top 100 entries in January 2008, two of which went Top 30. Alvin and the Chipmunks have released their second film, which is currently in cinemas, and this time they are joined by The Chipettes, who claim the highest new entry of the week with their version of "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on it)" which enters at No.46. The soundtrack for the film is the biggest leaping album of the week, it's up forty-seven places to No.39 this week. Below Top 50: There is only one new peaking track below the Top 50 this week, which is Vanessa Amorosi and her latest single "Hazardous", which is up twenty-six places to No.68. But a lot of tracks jump back up the charts though, "Morning After Dark" by Timbaland is up ten places to No.51, "Not Fair" by Lily Allen is up twenty-two places to No.55. Big Day Out head lining act Muse are up thirteen places to No.57 with "Undisclosed Desires", Nickelback's "Never Gonna Be Alone" is up fourteen places to No.70 and my personal No.1 single of 2009, Dizzee Rascal's "Holiday" is up twenty-one places to No.76. A third track from Rihanna's "Rated R" album enters at No.75, titled "Hard". And making their ARIA chart entry at No.97 is dance act Richard Vission feat Static Revenger and Luciana with "I Like That". Susan Boyle's "I Dreamed a Dream" spends a seventh week at No.1, and has now racked up over 500,000 in sales here in Australia. The entire top six albums all remain stable this week, with Michael Buble at No.2 for a seventh week also with "Crazy Love", Lady GaGa at No.3 with "The Fame Monster", The Black Eyed Peas at No.4 with "The E.N.D.", Taylor Swift at No.5 with "Fearless" and The Foo Fighters at No.6 with their "Greatest Hits". Mumford and Sons jump up six places to No.7 with their album "Sigh No More" as the albums second single "The Cave" went to radio this past week, and gives the boys their fourth week inside the Top 10, which pushes Stan Walker's debut album "Introducing" down a place to No.8. "Glee Volume 2" stays in the Top 10 at No.9, whilst "Volume 1" drops down two places to No.11. And P!nk's "Funhouse" celebrates it's 63rd week in the charts by spending it's 52nd week inside the Top 10 at No.10. "I'm Not Dead" spent 68 weeks in the Top 10, so a little more to go yet for her latest album. Alicia Keys scores a new peak at No.19 with her latest album "The Element of Freedom", and Timbaland moves up to a new peak of No.35 with "Shock Value 2". As I mentioned above, the soundtrack to "Alvin & The Chipmunks: The Squeakel" is up forty-seven places to No.39 and Owl City break into the Top 50 at No.49, up twelve places, with their album "Ocean Eyes". Jumping up eleven places to No.24 is recent tourists The Yeah Yeah Yeah's and their album "It's Blitz!", and due here at the end of the month is Florence and the Machine (tour starts Jan 26th in Sydney), and their album "Lungs" is up twenty-two places to No.60 this week. The only new entry to the Top 100 this week is the soundtrack to James Cameron's latest film "Avatar", which debuts at No.89.
