I don't agree with the UKIP tbh, as long as it isn't causing a great security risk at the moment I'm ok with it. People were allowed to wear hoodies and motorbike helmets in shops at one time but when they were used for the wrong reasons they were banned. The same with burkas - if they start controversy because they are used to rob shops and mug people then I would accept it as a security risk, but right now it's not a risk at all. I suppose in schools and airports I would prefer their faces to be seen but otherwise it's none of my business what they wear.

My mum saw this and she said that there was a nurse who wore a Christian cross on her necklace and she was forced to remove it as it was offensive. What about burkas? Also, remember the London bombings? One of the bombers escaped the country because he stole a woman's passport and escaped the country by wearing a burka as customs are not to check beneath the burka's so they don't cause offense. REALLY? WTF? THAT is why they should be banned. My opinion has changed now.

Erm, that's a bit different :/ For the former one, that was (rightly) pilloried in the press and I think they backed down in the end? In any case, you don't really have m/any nurses/airport staff (I think it was actually a flight attendant that was forced to remove it?) wearing burqas.

And on the latter point, that's not a reason to ban burqas completely :/ Maybe a reason to ban them for flights...or, this could just be done sensibly and have women wearing burqas checked by other women?

I never said to ban them completely, I said in airports and schools. And look at it this way, if you aren't willing to take your burka off to be checked in the airport by customs then you have something to hide. If flying was that important to you then you'd show customs your face. Britain are way too soft. I'm happy for all religions to be practiced but if burka's are security risks then they should respect BRITISH law, not Christian law or any other law, British, since they're in Britain. They should remove their burka's when necessary, otherwise face punishments. Unfortunately white people can't judge other religions too much, which I'm okay with, but when other races/religions judge me or my religion and get away with it, something ain't right!

British law currently allows burqas to be worn though, so they aren't breaking any crimes by not taking them off in customs? :P

I know, that's what I was getting at. Burkas should be banned in places of risk i.e. airports, schools but they're not.

That's really the airlines fault not the law. When ladies (who wear the head scarfs) are checking in - ALL airlines must take the ladies to aside and a member of the airline staff (usually female) will ask them to remove their head scarf so they can check them against the passport. Once ok the ladies can put their scarfs on again.

This is how I look at it....

First they came for the women in Veils, and I said nothing because I did not wear a veil

Then they came for the Jews who wore skullcaps and the Sikhs who wore turbans, I said nothing for I was not a Sikh nor a Jew

Then they came for the Fetishists who wore rubber and Gimp masks, I said nothing for I was not a Fetishist

Then they came for the Chavs who wore Shell Suits and Hoodies, I said nothing for I was not a Chav

Then they came for the Punks with facial piercings and tattoos, I said nothing for I was not a Punk

Then they came for the Gothic girlies who wore thick make-up, hair extensions and coloured contact lenses, I said nothing for I was not a Gothic girlie

Now they are coming for me, because I have long hair and wear black, and now there is nobody left to speak for me.....

Get the picture...? This is just the thin end of the wedge as far as I'm concerned... UKIP is a Right Wing party, do you think it's gonna stop at Muslim women, most of whom actually CHOOSE to wear the Burkha in this country, it's not IRAN or SAUDI ARABIA where it's enforced, many are actually making choices... And it's not for a bunch of middle-class, middle-aged white men to assume that all these women somehow need "saving", I see plenty of young Muslim women at the Universities where I work, they're hardly oppressed by anyone, in fact, I'd say they probably have a better sense of their own being and more self-respect than some of these silly chav slags who dont even have the common sense to wear a winter coat in sub-zero tempratures..... Well, Chavs have a right to be idiots and (preferably) freeze to death in the snow, I dont fukkin' care, bottom line, so veiled women dont bother me so much tbh....

As for the comparison Craig made earlier to "hoodies", well, mate, I'm not aware of a crime wave involving Bhurkha-ed up Muslim women taking place, I dont see Muslim women nicking cars, or mugging old people, stabbing, shooting, dealing drugs or raping anyone..... In fact, I dont see Muslim women in veils detonating themselves on public transport or flying planes into skyscrpers either..... The 9/11 hijackers all wore BUSINESS SUITS if you look at the CCTV footage, the 7/7 terrorists were all wearing general "Western" apparel also.... So, the supposed "evidence" is utter bullsh!t.....

I'd be inclined to support a Frech style ban of religious iconography in schools or public buildings, but then again, that ban affects EVERYONE regardless of religious persuasion, I absolutely will NOT go along with something like this which is very clearly discriminatory and just downright borderline RACIST..... UKIP are idiots.... And hyporcrites too.... The Anti-Europe party which sends out MEPs to Brussels...... Yeah, okay......
