Posted January 17, 201015 yr releases; week #03 2010 singles; This week is another slow one in terms of single physical releases. Perhaps the single which will make the most impact on the chart is Alexandra Burke’s ‘Broken Heels’. The second single released off of her debut record ‘Overcome’ will have a lot to do to overtake hit singles ‘Hallelujah’ (released as she won The X Factor back in 2008) and ‘Bad Boys’ (which featured American rapper Flo Rida) in terms of sales, but it does currently sit in the top 10 of the iTunes chart so perhaps it wouldn’t be too much to expect for it to make the top 5 come Sunday 24th’s chart. This week also sees the release of the second single from 3-piece girlband Girls Can’t Catch; ‘Echo’ will be the follow up to ‘Keep Your Head Up’, which reached #26 late last year. The band do have a bit of a back story; member Phoebe Brown was part of girlband Hope who made the top 5 of The X Factor live shows back in 2007. The band were fully formed in 2009 and are signed to Fascination records which houses artists such as Girls Aloud, The Saturdays and Miley Cyrus amongst others. It remains to be seen whether this group will have anywhere near the success of the aforementioned artists, but in a relatively slow release week, the girls will no doubt hoping for a chart placing ahead of #26. Other physical releases this week include N-Dubz and Mr. Hudson’s ‘Playing With Fire’; the second release from their top 5 album ‘Against All Odds’. With Hudson increasing popularity and the fact that the single is hovering around the top 10 of the iTunes, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this track becoming the London collective’s fourth top 10 single. Hurts, who were fourth in this years BBC Sound of 2010 poll, release ‘Wonderful Life’ on limited edition 12” and Biffy Clyro release the fourth single from last year’s ‘Only Revolution’, ‘Many of Horror’. On the download only side of things, one of 2010 most hotly tipped bands Chew Lips put out the first single from debut record ’Unicorn’ titled ’Play Together’. Other releases are by Private, Roisin Murphy and eighth release In Ash’s A-Z singles collection, titled ’Space Shot’. albums; On the album front, this coming week sees new albums by the likes of Lostphrophets, Owen Pallett and These New Puritans amongst others. ‘The Betrayed’ is the fourth record from Welsh rock band Lostphophets and follows up latest single ‘Where We Belong’. Last album ‘Liberation Transmission’ reached #01 when released back in 2006 and it is expected that this album will do similarly well. Owen Pallett releases his first record under his own name this week, having previously gone under the Final Fantasy moniker. This record, his third, is his first release since 2008’s double EP’s ‘Spectrum, 14th Century’ and ‘Pays to Please’, and has already been received very well by reviewers and the like. These New Puritans bring out second record ‘Hidden’ this week, and they will be hoping that it charts better than previous effort ’Beat Pyramid’, which despite the high critical praise failed to set the chart alight. This new record, preceded by 7½ minute epic single ’We Want War’, was mixed by Dave Cooley. Other releases include Eels ’End Times’, Fyfe Dangerfield ‘Fly Yellow Moon’ and One Republic ‘Waking Up’. in depth; You can read more about this weeks releases on the main reviews site, just check out the Upcoming Releases on the left hand side of the page.
