The pop whore in me wants to mention Christina Aguilera - Ain't No Other Man and Shakira - Hips Don't Lie. Although I was majorly pissed at the time seeing as HDL had already had its turn :(

thank god that underwhelming comeback single didn't dethrone the GREATEST #1 OF ALL TIME!

three stick out as particuarly haunting for me;

N-Trance - Set You Free - stopped by Celine Dion's Think Twice

Alice Deejay - Better Off Alone kept off No.1 for three consecutive weeks by a string of horrors from Ronan Keating, Westlife and Geri Halliwell :drama:

Shakira - Whenever Wherever stopped by Will Young's Evergreen

though I far prefer Rule The World and Runaway, I don't class Bleeding Love and Baby One More Time as poor songs, so I won't mention those...

I have a Digital Spy account but Digital Spy won't let me operate it.

Try creating a new account. I know it seems a lot of unneeded bother but i couldn't acsess mine so i created a new one and it worked fine

I think it's only truly an injustice if the number 2 goes on to outsell the number 1.
Is it safe to say that Shakira's "Whenever wherever" was better than that Will Young record?
I think it's only truly an injustice if the number 2 goes on to outsell the number 1.

that's what makes Better Off Alone's status as a #2 so much worse - all three of the songs that stopped it from topping the chart sold less in total :(

Ones that stand out as particular crimes to me:

Sophie Ellis-Bextor - Take Me Home kept off by Five's 'Let's Dance' (I mean what the fuck?!)

Kylie Minogue - Love At First Sight kept off by that Elvis vs JXL thing (as above)

Girls Aloud - No Good Advice beaten by R. Kelly's 'Ignition', also 'Jump' by Wasteoflife

Dannii Minogue - I Begin To Wonder kept off by Christina Aguilera's 'Beautiful' (Brilliant song but it had already been at #1, that was Dannii's only chance gone :()

Deee Lite's 'Groove Is In The Heart' and that Joker thing

I'll add more as they come to mind.

I like Let's Dance :)

Ugh how could I forgot that dirge "Beautiful". Kept Dannii and DJ Sammy of the #1 spot, they would've been much better #1s imo

Better in Time by Leona was held off #1 by Duffy's Mercy. Though granted I do love that song...but that's the only one that really jumbs to mind :P
Better in Time is excellent. Mercy is just an average song from a below average singer. How anyone can listen to Duffy is beyond me.

Girls Aloud - No Good Advice

Girls Aloud - Jump

Girls Aloud - The Show

Girls Aloud - Love Machine

'The Show' and 'Love Machine' especially deserved it! :(

Avril Lavigne - Girlfriend

Britney Spears - Piece Of Me

Fergie - Big Girls Don't Cry

Leona Lewis - Better In Time

That's all I can think of currently. :P

I like Mercy but it had already been #1 and Better In Time was so close with only 302 copies separating them. :(

Having said that, the fact it didn't get to #1 made the Forgive Me #5 more bearable. :P

Edited by Rain

didn't Forgive Me come out about 3 months after it had premiered or something? I recall being sick to death of it by the time it finally got a UK release, really can't have helped her chances for the best possible peak
La Roux- In for the Kill. Atleast it was the best elling number 2 of last year, and overall it sold more than the majority of number 1's.

Coldplay - Speed Of Sound.

MJ - Man In The Mirror.

Deee-Litr - Grove Is In The Heart.

All have already been mentioned, but they need reinforcing. Even though Crazy Ftog was a guilty pleasure of mine

Also Noisettes should have got at least 1 week at #1 but it was blocked twice by GaGa's Poker Face...

Defo Gorillaz - Feel Good Inc being kept down by Akon's Lonely. I remember that, I was pretty annoyed. I like the Akon song though, so it isn't that bad. That's the only one I can think of really
