The semi-final of the Azerbaijani selection is on Tuesday 2nd February. All songs are in English, and they are:

Azad Shabanov - Smile

Safura - Promise [this song will be in a mixture of English & Azerbaijani]

Ulviya Rahimova - In love

Maryam Shabanova - I've had enough

Elli Michiyeva - Up, up

Milk & Kisses - I am on fire

A jury will then choose three acts to go through to the final, which will be later on in February

I'd be quite interested ina folk Azeri song. Are any of them folk?

that mix sounds appetising :)

Qualified:

Safura - Promise

Maryam Shabanova - I've had enough

Milk & Kisses - I am on fire

Maryam's is my favourite but I think "I'm on fire" will win beacuse fire is Azerbaijan's national symbol.

Forget the songs! The semi-final was just to see what the singers were like, and in the final, the three acts will all sing the same song, and the jury decides on who goes to Oslo. So where does this song come from, you say? Well, I dunno, how about....

TIMBALAND

:D

wow :o if it's true hopefully he'll come up with something more 'If We Ever Meet Again' and less 'Morning After Dark'!
Wow, that would be amazing :o It looks like being Eurovision: Superstar Edition again :cheer:

Timbaland, Ronan Keating/Justin Lee Collins, A1 (and you could also include Pete Waterman)

Put them all together, and there could be a lot of British interest in ESC this year

how on earth did Azerbaijan of all countries get Timbaland?

I dunno, but I wouldn't be surprised if the rumour is true. They seem desperate to win - they got Arash last year, came 3rd, already been declared the host nation for EDC (even though it has once again been postponed).

They may aswell admit it that the Eurovision Dance Contest will be a complete sham!

I didn't even watch it with full attention in 2008, so that shows how good/popular it actually is :P

same for me, it wasn't awful. But it wasn't great

Azerbaijan - land of fire, and strange national selections.

First they had a semi, with six artists singing songs which wouldn't be the ESC entries, and picked three to progress. These three tonight performed three songs each, and Safura won - but to keep us in suspense, we won't know which of her three songs won until 19th March!

Possible options: "Drip Drop", "Under My Skin" or "Soulless"

But they didn't say which song
As frustrating as it is for us fans, it is refreshing that they're putting so much thought into this.

They're probably waiting to see what everyone else enters and then decide which of the three songs is most likely to standout from the rest of the field.

I've not actually heard any of the three songs yet though, so I don't know if all three sound the same or not

If you want to destroy your ears by listening to the songs, click here.

From what I can tell, the songs are good, but I've not listened to them in full because personally, Safura's vocals are awful
