Yes, really. :lol: It may be emotionless/souless, but you can't deny the fantastic range Whitney used to have in her voice.

I know Whitney's cover is clearly hated by most on here but the track had an interesting formulae. First verse sang entirely acapella, then the chorus brings in the strings. Then it all builds up to the big BANG!!! And IIIIIIIIIIIIIIIII... key change. :lol: One of those songs I liked as a kid but as I've got older can understand why it'd be slated. Probably because of its huge success? Had the song limped to #9 and dropped off rapidly it probably wouldn't be as hated. I usually get that impression with key singles by certain acts.

But without emotion or soul ... then the song may as well not be sung. Dolly Parton's delicate, fragile performance of it has much more heart and soul than any massive, booming 'hey look what I can do with my vocal chords' effort that Whitney or any of her ilk of singer can prove. I'd rather have a bad singer sing a song passionately than some automaton.
