Now you made me sad. :(

But the answer wasn't so obvious to me, tbh. There is one person I could imagine doing that but not more.

i've had my choices blocked by more than one person.

Granted one of them has a permaban now......

we had a system that worked just fine until an influx of people with no patience and no common curtsey

Word.

I'd honestly be quite happy to see the back of the banlist and the artist reservation thread and just go back to basics with a simple confirmation thread and leave it at that, it's all got very long winded since circa IX/X(?) with all these different stages - the artist reservation thread often brings up things like 'oh I see you've reserved Artist X, song Y is amazing I hope you're sending that' which is often where the pointless hype starts to build up and things become more predictable, perhaps stop the odds threads too? It's all of these things that make the contest more predictable than the actual entries sent in my opinion, plus the fact that people might pay attention more to the songs at the top of the odds thread. I think the contest would be a lot less predictable and obviously a lot fairer without it as the only way Ashton's Sugababes/Cilmi could be blocked for example is if somebody else confirmed them, which as I recall, despite somebody reserving these acts before Phil practically every month, hasn't ever been the case...

in fact, I'd be quite happy to see all rules lifted including those to do with the top 3 from last month, Eurovision songs, cover versions etc...

I can't abide the Artist Reservation system either.

I've always hated it.

It should be no nonsense bang in your entry in the confirmation thread and allow a maximum one change.

We've gone too far for no reservation to ever be possible. You're probably forgetting why we introduced it in the first place. People will end up considering the same entries, stepping on toes etc. It was fine until it was starting to be used tactically.

Getting rid of the odds thread? Why? It won't stop people speculating any more - which is basically all the odds thread is.

Anyway, as someone who was also not a fan of this method, I'm pleasantly surprised with how it's turning out. Everyone has nominated sensibly so far and I can't say I'm too distraught about anything on the banlist right now. Like Rich said, so much better than blanket banning.

i like the artist reservation thread tbh. Things got even nastier when it was simpler, people would take acts left and right from people and step on toes, and then people would start changing every week or so. I introduced the artist reservation thread in BJSCX so people would have literally no reason to switch constantly. I've always found if someone reserves an act you're 100% sending and they're not, they'll usually let you have them as well. A lot more civil imozzz. The only time it was ever used tactically really was with people reserving super cheap acts so no one could send them, which shouldn't be an issue now...

It wouldn't be tragic to see it go, but it is nice to have some time to chose between a few artists rather it being a rat race to who can confirm a song first. And then, the next thing you know, the other songs you were considering are confirmed by other people and you want to change. I dunnozzz.

I vote that nothing will be banned and all the bans we have now (top 3 from previous contest etc.) are lifted. We should let people to choose whatever they want like it used to be. So what if there are a few "cheap" songs in every contest, so be it. This is a fun contest and it seems that some people really are taking this too seriously with the ban lists. In the end the matter of fact is that most of the time a cheap song for one is not necessarily a cheap song for another. Artist having AF is not necessarily cheap, song from radio 1 playlist might not be cheap for most participants etc and in the end the cheapest song in the contest still might be a song that no ban applies to. So, IMO we should have no ban lists and such.

Using that logic I look forward to your entry:

Alexandra Burke – Broken Heels

Sorry, but if this contest becomes a smaller equivalent of the Buzzjack Personal Chart, then there is zero point in participating IMHO, as we already have that in place.

Why is there all of a sudden a backlash against the reservation thread of all things? People who are bitching about it now should know that it would be even worse with just a confirmation thread, as with that there's no room at all for negotiation - which there is with the reservation thread. It isn't as if reserving out of spite is a particularly endemic thing anyway...

EXACTLY.

Anyway, this nomination thing is CLOSED.

15 people nominated. 4 songs are banned.

Speculate while I sort out the Artist Reservation Thread. etc. (this may take a while - I'm slow)

Well, so far there hasn't been any indication that this would turn into BJ personal chart kinda, a few cheap songs here and there always since the first competition but at least I haven't noticed that there have been an increased number of cheap entries lately. . And for Alexandra Burke, it really wouldn't be a cheap song for me because I have never ever heard that song. I have heard Bad Boys but never bothered to listen the follow-up and since I don't listen radio much/watch music channels I haven't heard the song. And that is exactly my point, a cheap song for one isn't necessarily cheap for another.
