Completely the correct choice, the very fact of the latest allegations in the media about him allowing his Wembley Box (a direct perk of being England's national Football captain) being sold to the highest bidder on the black market for concerts, etc and him (or his cronies) pocketing the cash made his position untenable IMHO with Capello and especially the FA.

Especially when you David Beckham sold his to businesses (with the permission of the FA) with all the money going to charity and more relevantly considering the English Rugby Federation Union have sacked players from the national squad for doing the identical thing with Twickenham as what JT has done.

Besides, Rio Ferdinand is a much better role model and should have got the arm band in the first place when Capello took over, even though his back will be probably be injured come the WC opening match against the USA, so the captain's arm band will be passed to new vice captain Steven Gerrard who will most likely have a recurrence of his legendary groin injury, so the captain's armband will go to Wayne Rooney, even though we all know when David Beckham steps onto the pitch as a substitute in the 78th minute we know who the other 10 players look up to....

But don't you think it's a bit hypocritical? I mean fair enough Terry was a role model but did he really ask to be?

I mean, you drop Terry because of allegations about his private life and yet bring in someone who missed a drugs test and was banned for 8 months for it, which is ACTUALLY TO DO WITH FOOTBALL? That's why I just dont get why Terry was dropped. You drop someone for their private life, so imo you have to give everyone the same treatment and judge them based on their own immoral actions.

It is a bit hypocritical, but let's not forget this drug incident was quite a while ago now (also Rio's not exactly the sharpest tool in the box). The Terry incident is obviously very much in people's minds at the moment and I don't think he could continue as captain as he will have lost the dressing room. Whilst i'm not sure whether Ferdinand is the best choice, I think he's a player that will take the armband and thrive upon it's extra responsibility...

^ Are you serious?

Having an affair with a team mate's Misses has got nothing to do with football, and wont have an impact on dressing room morale?

What planet are you living on. Still with former Chelsea manager Avram Grant ;) as a role model and authority figure it is hardly surprising is it.

Besides it was this mornings revelations that made his position untenable, because he has abused his privileged position and authority in the same way that MPs have been doing with fiddling their expenses, hence it was a total no brainer that he had to and deserves to lose his captaincy.

Not to mention that Rio has had 4 driving bans

Well with John Terry as an England team mate it is little wonder he has got done for speeding so many times.

I can't stand the guy but as well as being the best central defender in the world most likely he is also England's most successful captain in modern times with 11 wins and 3 draws in 14 games as captain

So the issue should be not what his bedroom habits are but whether he is the best man for the job, his ability and results show that he is

This is probably England's best chance of world cup success this year in our lifetime, I would even go as far as to say we are probably the favourites so changing captains and media witchunts will backfire

John Terry the best defender in the World?

Better than Puyol; Vidic; Sergio Ramos; Zanetti; Córdoba and Lúcio.

You know what that is far more ludicrous than your posts about Haiti.

To be honest I'm just completely astounded this subject is even being debated, because at work it has a near 100% agreement that he should have lost his captaincy. (Hence you can't debate something if you completely agree on something).

As quite frankly I don't think it says much about those of you who don't think he has done anything wrong.

And that was before today's revelations; but anyway I will refer you to the BBC poll with a very decisive vote:

All I can say to Capello is well done = proof of a great manager unlike that turnip former England manager Graham Taylor who came out in the media supporting John Terry; clearly most England fans on this site would much rather John Terry stay as captain and have a toxic dressing room (with the likes of Ashley Cole - as Cheryl Cole's comments in the media of support to Wayne Bridge this week, and the surprise of seeing Ashley Cole on the bench in a tepid draw against Hull and rumours of a bust up between the two at Stamford Bridge; and Gareth Barry not communicating with JT) for the World Cup instead of sorting things out right now.

The same Ashley Cole that has cheated too with another woman, the same Ashley Cole who has a fetish for shoving mobile phones up his ass and getting people to ring it, the same Ashley Cole who has a long string of motoring convictions, Cole getting all moralistic about Terry is like Ian Brady slagging off Ian Huntley

Bridge is an idiot, he chose a woman that shags anything with a pulse so that he could have a nice trophy wife on his arm, you reap what you sew

What a shame John Terry has been sacked as captain :(

You can't deny that he is a good leader. I hope they don't replace him with Rio Ferdinand.

In fairness Terry is better than all of them. Especially Sergio Ramos who is useless.

I honestly can't believe people still think John Terry should be captain. How can he lead a team, when it's quite obvious he's lost the respect of a lot of players and will under no circumstances be able to command a team. He should have done the rightful thing and resigned (or at least offered his resignation) when the allegations came to light. I remember when Gerrard U-turned on his move to Chelsea and offered to resign as captain but Benitez wouldn't accept it - that's a sign of someone who knows they made a mistake and is trying to rectify it. John Terry would come off a lot better in this situation if he at least offered to resign as captain straight away.

Ferdinand will make a good captain, and he's easily the most experienced and best man to captain England at this moment in time who is likely to be in the first XI. Personally i'd have liked to have seen Gareth Barry captain, but it was a long shot for it happening. Oh and there's no way Terry is the best defender in the world. Fact.

Athletes such as rowers or runners or whatever tend to be from rich families and graduates etc who's families were wealthy enough to pay for their training, its a totally different culture to football

Yeah, Linford Christie, Colin Jackson, Marcus Adam, John Regis and Sally Gunnell sure were born with silver spoons in their mouths.....

The searing heat of South Africa, which when hosting the IPL last year at a similar time of the year, a good number of supporters were wearing scarfs and fleeces!!

How many footballers have even a double digit IQ ?

I can think of 1 who is remotely intelligent who has played in the last 20 years and that is Graeme Le Soux

The others are by and large neanderthals

But like I said anyone can kick a pigs bladder about in a council estate but for athletics you have to pay to use facilities and have specialised training and so on so it is very rare for a working class / ghetto person to make it in athletics because of the cost of training

For every 1 Linford there are 5 Redgrave/Pinsent/Coe/Ovett's

Remember when people blamed Victoria for David Beckham's affair with Rebecca Loos?
