Pleased Christoph Waltz got a nomination!

Overall quite predictable. A few suprises though.... where on earth is Invictus, The Road and Moon in the Best Picture catagory? I heard Morgan Freeman only yesterday saying how Invictus simply had to be nominated seeing as there are 10 this year. Glad Discrict 9 got nominated but it ridiculous that those three superb films are left out yet 'A Serious Man' is included. It was a complete and utter borefest, and easily one of the Coen Bro's most dissapointing films, certainly since Ladykillers. It has some moments that were amusing but overall the humour was very repetetive and it felt like it was 3 or 4 hours long imo. Not a patch on The Road, Moon, or Invictus if you ask me

Again I am suprised at The Hurt Locker ... 9 nominations? It was a very good film but I ams till shocked at so many nominations. No surpise with Avatar getting so many though. I hope Sandra Bullock finally gets an Oscar, also Jeff Bridges and Chris Waltz. :D

I think Sandra Bullock, Jeff Bridges and Mo'Nique are shoo-ins for thier catergories. The only one I'm not sure about is Best Supporting Actor and I think Avatar will win Best Picture.
Hangover certainly should have been nominated for best picture and maybe also Star Trek. They claimed they added five more films to best picture category to get more diversity (supposedly after The Dark Knight got snubbed last year) but in the end it was just to get some Oscar publicity for five more films and had really nothing to do with diversity (even thou District 9 got nominated - all 9 others create no diversity but are just the kind of films that get nominated normally for best picture).
Christoph Waltz is the best thing about Inglorious Basterds his character scared me a few times.

Oh God yes! He terrified me.

I actually think Waltz is a sure thing in this category. Deservedly so. Fantastic performance.

My predictions:

Award / Recipient / Certainty (1 being fairly uncertain, 5 being completely sure)

Best Actor in a Leading Role / George Clooney, Up In The Air / 3.0

Best Actress in a Leading Role / Sandra Bullock, The Blind Side / 4.0

Best Actress in a Supporting Role / Monique, Precious / 5.0

Best Actor in a Supporting Role / Christoph Waltz, Inglorious Basterds / 4.0

Best Picture / Precious / 2.0

Best Director / Kathyn Bigelow, The Hurt Locker / 4.0

I think Best Picture is hard to predict - it could be any of the five whose directors are also up for best director (perhaps not Up In The Air mind you). It certainly won't be any of the other five.

Sandra Bullock's only real competition is Meryl Streep but that would feel like more of an award for continued services to acting as I'm not sure Julie & Julia is well-liked enough for her to win.

James Cameron in my view stands no chance for best director.

'Up' for the best picture tbh.
Colin Firth for best actor. <3

Damn, i wish i could watch that movie. :( Russian cinemas would rather BURN THEIR BUILDINGS DOWN than to show a picture that even remotely connects with GAYS :manson:

Jesus, what a pathetic, pre-historic attitude..... -_-

Sometimes I think Russia was more socially progressive when it was under Communist rule.... Now you have the fukkin' Church dominating your society, and scumbags like Putin who are just a BIT more crooked than the Communist Party....

Jesus... Why so many nominations for Best Film...?? A bit curious that one.... Frankly, Avatar has no business being there over something like The Road or Moon.. Yes, it's a feast for the eyes, etc, etc, blah, blah... But as an actual FILM, it's pretty terrible stuff, and a very lazy effort from Cameron frankly who's blatantly just re-hashing a lot of his old ideas from Abyss, Aliens, etc... Both of which are far, far better films than Avatar.... Inglorious Basterds is a good enough War romp, but again, it's not really of the quality to be considered "Best Film" IMO, and nowhere near as enjoyable as Tarantino's early films...

District 9 - deserves its nomination for having a pretty fresh idea in its head, and doing it extremely well, not resorting to cliche or stereotyping like other films I could mention (*cough* Avatar *cough*), no idea why District 9's director isn't up for a Best Director nomination, he should be....

Precious - Film-making from the heart, really quite astoundingly raw and emotional stuff... Quite brilliant actually, absolutely deserves to be up there... And, FUKK ME! Mariah Carey actually finding her true calling.... Unglamourous roles in gritty dramas.. Who'd've thought it...?

The Hurt Locker - Miles better than Avatar in terms of film-making - gritty, strong, tense, white-knuckle stuff and relevant to what's going on in the world today, certainly an important piece of film-making, a great companion piece to the HBO mini-series "Generation Kill".. Kathryn Bigelow's my choice for Best Director, the way she's structured this film and shot it is simply superb.... Well acted too...

Up In The Air - Surprisingly enjoyable, well scripted and acted, particularly by Clooney who just keeps on proving to me that he's one of America's best and most versatile actors... Very astute adult comedy drama that doesn't try to fob us off with an unrealistic "feel good" ending....
