Belgium have more dark horse potential than Slovakia I reckon, who I expect are going for the voters that Estonia went for last year, but the song doesn't seem quite as interesting.

Randajad's a bit darker and more orchestral - Slovakia's going for a more upbeat Alvedansen I'd say.

Lena debuts at #52 on the BuzzJack multichart this week :w00t:

I am convinced this will win, but my Dad has gone further - he is convinced it will get to #1 in the UK. I've had to explain that it is currently album only on iTunes, and that this is Eurovision, and we live in the UK, along with the fact "Fairytale" only got to #10

First Lena rehearsal...

She sound's pretty off-key to be honest  :( the backing vocals sound a bit weird and are far too loud, drowning out Lena in the chorus which is a bit of a worry...She needs to stop looking at the ground as well and look out to the crowd more or else it come across very awkward on TV.

I love her thing about the shoes at the start though

I honestly can't call this now, I could see it going absolutely anywhere between 1st and about 15th...

Me too....15th

I keep thinking back to 2002. Corinna May was my personal/the bookies pre-contest favourite and ended up in the bottom 5. If it happens again... :arrr: Then again, Corinna May hadn't already had chart success and mass hype around parts of Europe...

After the contest though I realised that Ira Losco was much better

It's actually not that bad. It needs work in places but it's only the first rehearsal, so it can only get better.

I'm not concerned about Lena herself as even if she's not vocally perfect, she has an identity and personality. I'm more worried about how loud the backing vocalists are to be honest, so I do hope it's sorted out.

But she must have had more experience than any other competitor of singing her Eurovision entry live to an audience, what with it being a huge hit in Germany, so whereas for some countries, this could indeed be their first time on such a big stage because they probably haven't 'sung for TV' at any point other than their national final, and maybe a couple of other local performances, Lena's done loads of them and I would imagine she must have watched them back/asked for audience reaction to help her here?

True, but Didrik has been all over Norway and on TV for months and his routine is a bit messy. I think that another rehearsal will do both of them some good. :D

Lena has to win. I won't be happy if Safura does. :smoke:

Anyone know what the rehearsals have been like it past years? Because I'm sure the Allkindsofeverything blog has commented on quite a few saying they look messy in one way or another, yet in the past, I think it's all been great on the night. So if they've been messy in the past, I'm sure it will also be great this year. I quite liked Lena's first rehearsal, but I watched the low-quality one that ESCToday did.

I wouldn't mind Safura winning. I don't like Drip Drop as much as Satellite but it's still one of my favourites and I'd prefer her to win over the likes of Denmark or Israel. I'm very hesistant to rule out Belgium being in with an outside shot though - their odds have drastically shortened recently - they're now 6th favourite...

They're quite harsh on that blog, and not very quick to give praise unless they truly love something it seems. Last year, one of the bloggers was adamant that Jade was going to finish bottom 10, right up until the final, calling it smug and overblown or something, so don't take their predictions as gospel. They seem quite sure at the moment that Denmark will fail to qualify and that seems unlikely...

Ah, ok. I've gone off that blog recently, because I've been checking their remix collection every day, and they had the same remix for a few days, then the next time it changed, they claimed to have had a couple of different remixes the past couple of days. One of them was "Satellite", which everyone here knows is my favourite. So their remixes are only available for one day only, so I missed it. I sent an e-mail to them, asking if I could have a link to it, or an Mp3 of it, and they've not replied :snif: I think I also missed Slovakia - but I'd been checking each day, so they certainly didn't have either up for at least 24hrs like they should -_-

The backing vocalists have a tendency to sound too loud on these videos, but it will probably sound completely different on the feed that actually is heard on television.

Oh absolutely... Berlin, Munich, Stuttgart, Dusseldorf...you name it, Lena has had chart success and mass hype there :P

Top 10 in Switzerland & Austria [even though I admit Austria doesn't actually take part] ;)

Plus a big hit in Switzerland (and Austria), the highest Eurovision entry on iTunes charts in Sweden, Norway and wherever else was mentioned in the other thread...

OK fair enough, that's a few points from Switzerland :)

I would usually agree with Rich on quite alot especially when it comes to Eurovision but in this case I think Lena is being vastly overhyped on here, and elsewhere. It seems like the hype about her back in Germany influenced the bookies and that in turn has influenced alot of fans into thinking this stands a chance. OK it is a good song, so I'm not claiming that people on here are purely going by the bookies etc. but I just cannot grasp how this possible screams winner. She has a certain charm but not nearly enough to compensate for her voice like Alexander had.

I'm prepared to eat humble pie on May 30th, and I've done it before (Maria anyone?) but right now I'm 90% sure that this ain't going top ten.

It's my favourite song of the year so I guess that's why I hype it  I'm certainly not influenced by the bookies and don't think it will win, but it does stand an outside chance at least - it's everywhere - it's very popular on this forum amongst non Eurovision fans, it's flying up iTunes charts all over the place, it was talked about and played on Radio 1 (albeit briefly), the video's had near enough 10 million views on youtube. It just doesn't feel like the sort of thing that's got only a 10% chance of making the top ten. Like I say, I could imagine it going anywhere between 1st and 15th, but I think it's more realistically going to be mid top 10 somewhere at least, maybe 5th or 6th if it doesn't fully catch on. It's the hardest song to call in the entire competition. The other favourites like Azerbaijan and Croatia are safe enough to at least guarantee them top ten, but Germany could literally fall anywhere depending on how the juries vote, and if the public at large take to it or not.

I've still convinced it will win. Doing well with the bookies, big hit in Germany, doing well in other places, really like by ESC & non-ESC fans, a brief play on Radio 1 & the more views on YouTube than any other entry this year, plus it's near the end of the running order. I think it should come top 3, probably with Azerbaijan & Croatia [i don't currently see Denmark troubling the top 3]. But Azerbaijan & Croatia are both ballads, so I think this may just top them.

Peter, what was it you had said exactly about Maria in the past?

EDIT: I've noted that AKOE & Oikotimes are both saying bad things about Lena's accent, but personally, I think her pronunciation is part of the songs charm.

It looks like it'll be between Germany and Azerbaijan for the win this year.......

Out of the two I'd prefer Germany to win....it's more fun and quirkier than drip drop. (and that's what I like)

I said that Maria was a good singer and had a classy song but that it was too mid-tempo and non-descript and not instant enough to catch on with the televoters.
