May 23, 201015 yr this Lena .gif made my day  http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/3997/fe719aff24.gif not sure if it was already posted :P
May 23, 201015 yr I said that Maria was a good singer and had a classy song but that it was too mid-tempo and non-descript and not instant enough to catch on with the televoters. Non-descript -_- Lucky she got the last slot granted, I don't think it would have done quite as well had she performed 4th in the draw or something. But it really did come across as a classy, fantastic closing performance in my opinion and I changed my vote from Sweden to Norway at the last minute on the basis of that performance (and Charlotte's frankly bizarre one). Plus I would argue that it was one of the most 'of the time' songs in the competition that year, I've always maintained that its parent album is like 'a happier Duffy'. She really got 'the sound' of the time bang on and capitalised on that. We all make errors in judgement when it comes to ESC though - I was absolutely certain that it would be between Anna Vissi and Carola for the win in 2006 for example, where was it they finished again, 5th and 9th  And then there's Texas Lightning's 15th place, when I'd expected mid-low top ten at least. I guess huge German chart success (which it had) doesn't really mean anything at all ultimately :( If Denmark win, as the OGAE voters seem to think they will, then I'll definitely be eating humble pie as I don't think they've got a hope in hell.
May 23, 201015 yr I'm going to go ahead and call Germany for anywhere between 1st and 15th, but most likely somewhere between 3rd and 10th... ...I can't stand the AKOE blog. I mean, I do quite like how they elaborate their reasoning, but there seems to be so much bias in their thinking (i.e. the fact they, without doubt, almost always insist the British entry is one of the worst of the year - it's rarely amongst the best, but I found it hard to take their calls of bottom ten seriously last year) - it's nothing short of ridiculous to call Denmark as a non-qualifier this year, no matter HOW non-descript the performance may seem. Unless they pull off a truly awful off-key performance, IAMLT is sailing through.

They have said a few times that Denmark being at risk is the general feeling amongst the press there, and if they turned in a performance like their rehearsals, they certainly would be (even though I'm confident they won't). Also it was only Keith who was critical of the UK song last year, the other two bloggers were very positive indeed, and Keith has said he has a "strong fondness" for our entry this year. Yes there is bias there, but like you said they always back up their reasoning so surely that would make it ok? I still maintain that it's the best, most informative source of information during Eurovision week. Edited May 23, 201015 yr by Peter30

Yeah, to be fair, it is only really Keith I have a problem with - for such a huge Eurovision fan he really does seem to make all the wrong calls (another one I found hard to take seriously was his insistence last year that Belarus were guaranteed qualifiers ). Certainly it's the most informative source in the rehearsals week, but when it comes to their predictions I find it very difficult to take them seriously - and I can't really understand why they factor a country's performance in previous years in to their percentage chances for qualification.

Did he :o That would have single handedly ruined a near perfect final :/ He's just called a possible victory for Spain this year in the latest blog update...
May 23, 201015 yr Spanish victory wouldn't be so unlikely if Daniel finished in the more friendly performing spot :(
May 23, 201015 yr I know, but aside from you and some other 2 people here who can actually distinguish them? lol
May 23, 201015 yr Belarus had quite a good performance last year, but I didn't like the song :( I dunno whose predictions are worse, those on AKOE or those on oikotimes. I'm sure oikotimes said yesterday that after watching all rehearsals, it's between Sweden, Ireland, Ukraine & Norway. However, after a second German rehearsal, they've just said it was better than the first, and that Germany are back in the game.
May 23, 201015 yr I know, but aside from you and some other 2 people here who can actually distinguish them? lol yeah and I know them by name :kink: the former 2 members too
May 24, 201015 yr Everyone says (I mean newspapers and odds sites) that the song will grade pretty well... I don't really like it THAT much...especially the performance (girl swinging around), but meh... with all these songs I can see it in top 5
May 25, 201015 yr Lena's picture is in quite a few of the new UK TV listings mags out this week as one of the 'ones to watch' in the Eurovision write ups in nearly every one. Chanee & N'Evergreen's face is plastered all over a lot of them too, as they are looking to do well with their 'well sung power ballad' according to Total TV Guide. Power ballad? Well sung? :kink: The same TV giude also panned the Greek entry - saying something along the lines of it's clear that Greece can't afford to host in 2010 so have sent an awful song so that they definitely won't win
May 25, 201015 yr Some scandal with the Greeks! Apparently Lena couldn't talk to some Greek journalists because she was busy and now the Greeks have gone all crazy. The incident wasn't helped by the growing tension between both countries over Greece's financial problems, although I don't see why the Germans should take the blame. It seems that Star have problems with potential Eurovision winners, as they had issues with Rybak last year for some odd reason... eNdDEOSWyI0
May 25, 201015 yr Even if some people don't think "Satellite" is instant enough to do well, there's the clip of it at the end of each semi-final, live in full in the final, plus the re-cap in the final. And I see it getting at least a 8 from the UK, as it's also had a quick play on Radio 1, and everyone I know (even those who aren't massive ESC fans) really like it. And growing tensions between Germany and Greece, honestly :drama: I don't know much about the financial situation in Greece, but if it's their problems, they surely they got themselves into them, and can't just rely on other countries to get them out

Anyway, I doubt it's anything serious, Star are notorious for being twats.
