May 30, 201015 yr I enjoyed marty whelans commentary and he was genuinly gutted about Irelands performance because he was so hyped up after Ireland qualifying, marty comes out with some great witty comments during the show. Dont get me wrong when i say Niamh was great tonight and i loved the song and how she delivered but i did mean to sau her voice isnt as strong as it was back in 93, in your eyes had many high notes that were long high notes aswell and she sang them in 93 with any hesitations, she wasnt as able this year but to be fair 17 years 2 kids and marriage does have an effect. I still love its for you and i hope it does well as a single for her in Ireland. Edited May 30, 201015 yr by Aphrodite
May 30, 201015 yr We need to get some young, slim person who can actually sing very well in future years. Something more contemporary because I think eurovision has something against older woman recently (e.g Hera and Chiara also) Sad but it seems to be the case :S Not necessarily. I think Eurovision just tired of the big power ballad - especially two back-to-back with Belarus and Ireland! - this year, which can also be seen in Norway failing. Too many similar songs scrapping for the same votes. Ireland should just be glad they qualified to be honest!
May 30, 201015 yr I'm just so used to this country doing poorly lately that 23rd doesn't bother me in the slightest. :heehee: If RTÉ confirm participation next year then they need to get their act together and arrange a good act internally.
May 30, 201015 yr Yeah. I agree. I hate ballads. They are just so formulaic compared with inventive stuff like the Top 3.
May 30, 201015 yr I hope Ireland stay for at least another year, it is there best result since 2006. And a country in the west has won for a second year in a row, so more prove that you can do it if you get your act together.
May 30, 201015 yr Ronan Keating has kicked up about RTÉ saying that Niamh's participation was fixed or something. Apparently, Justin Lee Collins was upset that he didn't get selected and asked if it was "politics" and Ronan said it was. I don't know what to think of it, but Justin's song wasn't that great anyway. Don't get me wrong, I really like him and he has a fantastic voice, but Ronan seems to be only capable of writing the same song over and over. RTÉ have insisted that Niamh winning Eurosong was above board and it was monitored by an independent thingy (I can't remember what they're called  )

May 30, 201015 yr As if anyone's got any respect left for Ronan and his opinions these days anyway -_- This. :kink: He's down there with Sinead O'Connor for me, tbh. At least Niamh was pretty 'popular' in Oslo, you know, was accepted very well. <3 Yeah, she didn't even care about the position. :heehee: It was an excellent night, and she did the best she could, so I'm happy. Oh, and there was an article in the newspaper today with the title 'RTÉ "ready for win"'. LOL. It is quite promising though that they are prepared to host if we do win soon. Maybe I don't give them enough credit. :heehee:
May 30, 201015 yr It says alot that RTE thought that song could win. They are out of touch with what is popular in Europe. When was the last time Ireland entered a genuinely good pop song?
May 30, 201015 yr I think the irish entry last year was very good and a great pop song and i still believe it should have qualified for the final but it narrowly missed out. Niamh did well this year from a performance point of view and she got one of the ebst crowd reaction in the final aswell. I didnt think Niamh would win but i was sure she would come top 10 so i was gutted with the low score. For me though from the songs i heard the best song went on to represent Ireland this year and on the night itself Niamh done us very proud.
May 31, 201015 yr There are some good articles in the Irish Times today. RTÉ urged to look to youth Germany gives Lena a heroine's welcome Voters swayed by German singer's fresh and unusual approach 'Maybe next year, I'll enter the Eurovision' I would like an internal selection. RTÉ should approach the talented youth, like Lesley Roy or . If we get another Eurosong with songs selected by Linda Martin then I'll cry.
May 31, 201015 yr Hi all! New here, Im from Ireland, wanted to put my thoughts somewhere!! Have been hearing loads of people complainin since the other night about injustice, but I dont entirely believe in the neighbour voting excuse anymore. Our song was nice but its very dated and bland - the simple fact was that most other countries had far catchier and better songs than us, and thats why we were bottom 3. The likes of Germany, Belgium, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan had songs that fit into the charts of today - then Ireland seems trapped in a time warp. I felt that even our 'modern day entry' last year was dated. Whoever it was here suggested an internal entry is right - Lesley roy would be amazing, theres no way she'd do it though. We need to forget about our previous entries and about what would fit into eurovision... anyone who wins these days comeswith something fresh and original.

Welcome to the forum. ^_^ I think you'll find most people here will agree with the points you've raised there - myself included! Though I did like Niamh's song, and think it deserved slightly higher.
May 31, 201015 yr I was just looking back on the voting and was shocked Ireland gave France 6 points, now dont get me wrong it was an enjoyable song but after the whole world cup fiasco i was sure not one irish person would vote for France, in a way its good that we dont carry grudges for too long!!
June 1, 201015 yr I liked Niamh's song, OK I loved it, and it was well performed, but it was clear that there were so many ballads that in the end they would cancel each other out. Louis Walsh is apparently suggesting that they send Jedward today, I presume they want to follow in our footsteps and come last? :kink:
June 1, 201015 yr Louis Walsh is apparently suggesting that they send Jedward today :o Yes please :w00t: They'd certainly stand out, and Ireland would get my vote :kink:
