May 26, 201015 yr Great article :D I think it will be close for our 12 with this, Germany and Iceland though, maybe: 12pts Ireland 10pts Germany 8pts Iceland? Maybe?
May 26, 201015 yr Author Would last performing slot be a good or bad thing for Ireland? If it's good I hope we get it :P That's if we qualify at all....semi 1 results threw up some surprises I don't want anymore surprises in semi 2 please :(
May 26, 201015 yr Usually it's good, but with the new rules about phone lines opening at the start, it may be bad, also if it is drawn next to Portugal it may lose votes for being similar...
May 26, 201015 yr Ireland need slot 17 so that Niamh is between Iceland and France. And then we can say hello to the top 10. :kink: Edited May 26, 201015 yr by Cal
May 26, 201015 yr Ya i agree with both the last comments, but hopefully all will go well for the irish entry . RTE are really promoting eurovision this year and i suppose to be fair to rte they usually do,but there has been lots hapening on rte to keep any eurovision fan happy.
May 26, 201015 yr Ireland need slot 17 so that Niamh is between Iceland and France. And then we can say hello to the top 10. :kink: Get slot 24 and you can say hello to the top five.
May 26, 201015 yr Author If we got a top 5 I think I'd cry..... I've never seen Ireland (like at the time/live) being extremely successful (top five/nearly winning) before. All I have to go on is videos on youtube of when we won but that's not that special really cause most of them I wasn't even born. And during the string of wins in the ninties I was a baby :P I'm not sure if I saw our 1996 win (although I was 5 then so it was probably past my bed time or something :( )
May 26, 201015 yr I'm pretty sure I remember the 1996 win. I definitely remember Israel winning in 1998 because Dana International's song scared me. :( Would top 5 be possible? It's a rather cliché and predictable ballad and to me it screams 8th place. I just see the top 5 for the more contemporary entries like Germany and Sweden. I actually don't want Ireland to win because I can't (and don't want to) see RTÉ hosting it. :( Maybe I'm just being overly critical? Niamh and the Irish delegation also went up north to Sápmi on Monday: http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-snc3/hs262.snc3/27767_408633577680_587562680_4503616_3287979_n.jpg
May 26, 201015 yr Oh, I'm sure RTE would just flog it off to a rich businessman with a big tent in rural Ireland :kink:
May 26, 201015 yr I remember the the 4 90's win very clearly for Ireland and the 94 win was a fantastic night as riverdance was such a big night for the Irish. On syaing that it seems like a whole life time ago since Ireland done well, we havnt come top 5 since 1997 although we came a very respectable 6th in 2000. I have high hopes for Niamh, maybe its just me but it is a quality song that is sung and performed very well by a great singer, i will be truly gutted if we dont come out of the semi;s tomorrow night.
May 26, 201015 yr Author I'd love to see how RTE/Ireland would host the contest in this day and age because back then the eurovision was alot more low key. :o I think if Ireland ever does win again I'll have to try and get tickets to the final......might not get such a good oppurtunity for a long long time :P Edited May 26, 201015 yr by Sabrewulf
May 26, 201015 yr I'm pretty sure it would be held in the O2. It's not small, but it's not too big either. It has the same capacity as the Hartwell Arena in Helsinki (about 14,000 seats [tiered]), but the layout may be a problem because it's more of a giant amphitheater than an arena.
May 26, 201015 yr Great article :D I think it will be close for our 12 with this, Germany and Iceland though, maybe: 12pts Ireland 10pts Germany 8pts Iceland? Maybe? I am expecting that to be our top 3, maybe not in that order. Ireland - neighbors, and a really good song. Germany - fan favourites, I know A LOT of people (ESC fans & non-ESC fans) that love it, and have it as their favourite. Iceland - seems to be a favourite with UK fans.
May 26, 201015 yr I wonder who will Ireland give 12 points now that Poland & Latvia are out :kink: And Slovakia and Estonia. :P I'm thinking Iceland, Germany or Sweden, tbh.
May 26, 201015 yr I wonder who will Ireland give 12 points now that Poland & Latvia are out :kink: And Slovakia and Estonia. :P I'm thinking Iceland, Germany or Sweden, tbh. And I don't expect Lithuania to make it through tomorrow, either. So it's all clear for the UK to finally get Ireland's 12pts :kink:
May 26, 201015 yr And Slovakia and Estonia. :P I'm thinking Iceland, Germany or Sweden, tbh. Yeah, Iceland got the Irish 12 last year (Lithuania got 8 IIRC, UK got 10) so I doubt it would've been guaranteed anyway.
May 26, 201015 yr Yeah, Iceland got the Irish 12 last year (Lithuania got 8 IIRC, UK got 10) so I doubt it would've been guaranteed anyway. Norway was 8, Lithuania was 7, but Lithuania topped the televote. :o It will be very interesting actually. I hope it's Iceland or Sweden. :kink:
May 27, 201015 yr Justin Lee Collins' rejected Eurosong entry, written by Ronan Keating; F4xV16jac50 The production could have been a little bit more up to date and it sounds like a Boyzone album track (and Justin sounds shockingly like Ronan on it actually) but like it  I definitely prefer Niamh's song but this would have easily been 2nd best in the selection had it made the final 5, far better than some of the other monstrosities that were on offer, like one from a certain bandmate of Ronan  I wonder if they kept it out to practically ensure a victory for Niamh? I still think she would have won but it wouldn't have been such a close contest. edit: just noticed this had been posted earlier in the thread, but it's topical now anyway what with the JLC show on Channel 5 last week, and this song currently residing in the iTunes top 100!
May 27, 201015 yr Get slot 24 and you can say hello to the top five. Disagree, I think it could struggle against Portugal. I love both (Ireland more) but they do have similarities...
