I'm really into bands like The Horrors, White Lies, Editors, Interpol, etc, at the moment... And I want MORE of this type that are doing the rounds now.... Any recommendations out there would be gratefully appreciated.... These guys are more like the Indie that I loved as a teenager - your Joy Divisions, Echo and the Bunnymens, Smiths, Cures, etc......

I'm guessing you only want modern bands?

Eighties Matchbox B-Line Disaster

Vile Imbeciles

The Social

Neil's Children

These New Puritans

The Rapture

Official Secrets Act

Hatcham Social

Project Komakino

Ulterior

Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

General Decay

R O M A N C E

For older stuff (you may already know them) try:

Red Lorry Yellow Lorry

Teardrop Explodes

Play Dead

Killing Joke

1919

Theatre Of Hate/Spear Of Destiny

The The

Jesus & Mary Chain

I think it's really hard recommending bands to you Grim coz you already know loads (and some obscure ones at that!)

Have you tried A Place to Bury Strangers, a top notch NY band.

Don't whether these are the kind of thing you are looking for but you could also try Cold Cave and Comeneci.

Cold Cave are lovely. <3 Though not really in this vein.

I second A Place to Bury Strangers.

I don't really like any of those bands Grim has mentioned bar a certain Horrors song, and i find it difficult to compare bands i dislike to bands i like for some reason The Phantom Band definately though, and i 2nd These New Puritans. Bon Iver, Akron/Family, Noah And The Whale (2nd album), Johnny Flyn, The Antlers maybe? They're all a bit more not-upbeat folk than "dark" indie, and you could find them pretentious. Xiu Xiu/Former Ghosts are haunting, dark and leave a bitter taste when listening to them properly, but nothing like Editors etc.

You might like The xx, they remind me a bit like newer Horrors, not sure how 'dark' they are though.

I'd recommend These New Puritans, The xx, and Former Ghosts/Xiu Xiu as well.

Have a listen to a band called Audiac. Here are some examples which I uploaded to YouTube myself.

Woah, cheers guys.. This advice is all sounding pretty good.....

A Place to Bury Strangers is looking like a possible winner... As is The xx, who sound a bit like Sonic Youth actually.... Certainly not a bad thing....
