Thanks to everyone for their links and photos. What an emotional night! Like you all, I'm still getting over it , and part of me still thinks is it true becaue good thing like this don't happen for Darius? I've watched his performance over and over again and that duet with Rolando is so moving. I'm convinced it was that which made people who don't normally pick up the phone do so. Like you said Paul, for once I feel Darius came off best with Rolando. Every time I see him run over and hug his Dad I want to cry, he's turning me into an emotional wreck. I love his exit interview so typical Darius, and it's great to see him looking so happy, can't ask for more than that-well actually perhaps an album and a tour? I'd love a DVD as well! At least we can all breathe again now and work out how to find the money to pay the phone bills. Sue

I would guess the harsh and unpleasant comments we suffer from the media about D are replicated in different forms about many other artists of varying fields. We notice D's because we love him, but obviously aren't aware of how poorly others can be treated as we aren't following them so avidly, until their paths cross with D and we take a little more interest.

It's completely wrong such negative attention, but hearing that KJ(and obviously others) have and are suffering the same type of things, makes me feel the tiniest bit better about all the nonsense we've had to endure about D over the years. That and the fact that DARIUS HAS JUST WON POPSTAR TO OPERA STAR

It was the fact they just wouldn't move on from the fact he didn't win Popstars/PI and it tainted everything written about him for so long, that really got my goat.

He'd have sounded fab but looked ridiculous in Hear'say - just look at the shots of him standing with Kym and Myleene.

He didn't want to win in the end but what if he'd won PI and been tied to SC? It would have been like two stags butting antlers the whole time, a very difficult working relationship. As men they got on quite well - on the relationship between music and money, they were poles apart.

Now hopefully people will wake up & realise that Darius Campbell is a much better popera x-over singer than Katherine Jenkins #poptoopera

from that blog writer.. she doesnt like KJ does she.

I think to some extent his new management can take some credit, they appear so far to be doing a good job. We have seen him on tv very frequently after the drought of the past few years. There was an older man sitting with Jacqui and I did wonder if he was from the new management.

I don't think D's own management/agent would have had any input into which shows he promoted PSTOS on, Preston.

I think once you sign on for one of these shows you agree to give up control of certain aspects.

and what is nice is the amount of comments saying Darius was the better of the two on the night, and deserved to win. and thats not on his facebook, just people who arent Darius fans

I do hope they bring out a DVD of the show with all the performances and a lot more of the behind the scenes footage. It would be so nice for the fans of the other artists too.

I've recorded the show every week. However I would love to have an official professional quality copy.

The ratings dropped a little for the final. The slot was actaully won by the Eastenders aftermath programme on BBC3, which makes sense because Popstars to Operastars is repeated several times in the week.

I think despite all the scepticism, the format worked and I hope there is a second series.

Popstar to Operastar winner Darius Campbell has said that opera will "inspire" his next album. The `Colourblind' singer was stunned when it was announced that he had won the reality TV singing contest on Friday night.

Darius beat off competition from bookies' favourite Bernie Nolan to win the first series of Popstar to Operastar.

Speaking to Digital Spy before the final, he said that he was looking forward to touring with a new album.

He explained: "I am going to be making a record and releasing my third album. I'm looking forward to hitting the road again and it's great to be back in the UK.

"I've spent a lot of time the States and it's great to be back over here. I'm having the time of my life at the moment with this show, singing again, making news friends and working with classically trained experts."

He continued: "I have been so focused on what I've been learning that I haven't had the chance to think about anything else. It will definitely influence the third album."

Darius hinted that he would consider making a return to the stage or working in films and television.

He added: "It was such a privilege to work on Gone With The Wind in the West End. That was a real honour for my acting career. Looking beyond and what happens next, I do hope to act more in the future, but what capacity that will be I'm not sure. We'll have to see what twists fate has in store for me."

California Chronicle reporting on a Scottish mail article.

DARIUS Campbell dreams of taking opera to the top of the charts after his TV show victory.

The Popstar To Operastar winner says the ITV show will be a massive influence on his next album.

Scots singer Darius, 29, hopes it will help relaunch his career after his second album flopped and he was dropped from his record label in 2005.

A source said: "Winning was important because it means he still has lots of fans.

"The album will be a mix of pop and opera and everything in between. He has high hopes it will take him back to the top of the charts" Darius, from Bearsden, near Glasgow, came third in Pop Idol in 2002 and has had five top 10 hits.

I've loved hearing D sing on this show, but I didn't want it to "inspire" the 3rd album, which I thought was already finished. My worst fear is that it's all going to be changed. Perhaps he will use 7-8 of his absolute best from this album and add in 3-4 new opera inspired songs. Either way, it means the album's release will certainly be delayed. I just really hope he doesn't spend too long "perfecting" it and miss the boat

:o  i want that album, he said already it wasnt pop...he ca add some classical crossover, he can do some opera but I want that album, you have to seize the moment

or he ca doles miserbles, or phantom..pirates of penzance, Gillbert and sullivan..

am i being greedy again

I came on to say thanks for the tweak to the thread title.

Someone's got to give him a shake and say gigs yes to pilot the material but the album must come soon.

I can see his problem - it's the same as the one I pointed out when he was doing MT. he has fans who've come to him at different points when he's been using a specific style of singing who don't particularly want an album of his other kind of music. Those who l,ove the big MT songs may not like the covered operatic sound or the higher range pop stuff.

Right now I think the sensible option is to go for classical crossover with a some of his own mature pop songs . He'll need to decide with his record company what the balance should be.

As said before, there are many Darius songs I've never heard live so just as long as he'll include some in concerts/gigs, I'd support an album designed specifically for the newer fans from PSTOS and fairly easy to record quickly..

Establishing his independence and being a singer/songwriter is not vital any more. He IS a singer and songwriter. That is indisputable.

I don't think his new management will let him miss the boat this time, not now they've seen how popular he is. They must know how important it is 'to strike while the iron is hot' and whatever type of album it is, I'll just be very, very, pleased to get it at last! (As well as anything else that's on offer.)

Love the new thread title, 'Darius Wins' Sue

Quote PIP - i want that album, he said already it wasnt pop...he ca add some classical crossover, he can do some opera but I want that album, you have to seize the moment

or he can do les miserables, or phantom..pirates of penzance, Gillbert and sullivan Ditto what PIP says and must add the following - I saw my next door neighbour this morning who has never liked D because she is not a fan of pop and she always brushed him aside - what a difference this morning I couldnt get away she was full of him on PSTOS she thought he was wonderful, brilliant, versatile, wonderful voice, hadnt realised he could sing like that and is he doing any shows musicals etc she would be v ery interested but would like classical crossover/musicals for his album. She doesnt think hes cheesy just has manners which she likes etc.anyway her parting shot was he is wonderful.

I think Darius has appealed to a more mature fanbase, into grown up pop, into classical, theatre etc, I recall Foxy saying his voice was great, but couldnt see his style fitting the pop of today? (even though he did with CB, and the other songs off Dive In) - my mum and dad, I recall when they saw him do des oconner said, they didnt like the pop, but totally loved Darius singing in his deeper range.

that is why I dont think he should go backward to youngsters pop, its so image based and for the youngsters who dont deserve him..or would be into him, he is 30...time to move on imo, live twice showed that, tbh it had grown up form Dive in - a natural progression, he isnt going to be on the same stage as sugerbabes for example, in my mind - wrong demographics

imo he needs to concentrate on the serious aspects of his voice, and performance skills. but as said grown up popular music is fine by me, just leave the bubblegum behind. I dont want the yongsters to have him!!!! LOL

and agreeing, he isnt seen as cheesy by my parents etc, they think he is a lovely polite young man, full of good humour
