If 15p of each telephone call goes to charity, who collects the other 35p ?

Who is actually behind this show ?

Simon Cowell has made a fortune this way. Who now?

And will there be a tour as in DOI , BHT etc ?And what is the prize for winning this?

Sorry, but I seem to have been left behind.

Nothing mentioned.

Trust Darius to try and stand up for himself - he even asked Katherine and Rolando which aria they thought would be more impressive.... but we didn't hear their reply, I don't think!! Just imagine how well he would have done if he had practised the right aria from the beginning - I thought he seemed really comfortable with it (why did posters on DS think he would find it really hard to keep up with the music) and took it all in his stride. Admittedly, it certainly wasn't an aria that was recognisable and didn't have any impressionable notes but it must have been very tricky to sing and remember and I think D did excellently!! :cheer:

I'm glad Bernie got through to the final with D but I felt this was her worst week (Marcella was better this week) - apart from the excellent high notes I thought her singing was very erratic and quite croaky in places tonight!!

Anyway, I'm so pleased for Darius - let's hope he gets a chance to really shine next week and whatever the outcome he has proved himself yet again!...

BUT.... it would be so lovely if he could win this COME ON DARIUS!!! :yahoo: :yahoo:

Julie

None of tonight's female ones are on that but Darius's Champagne Aria is.

No tweets or posts from Darius so far. He must be recovering from the shock of getting into a final.

I wonder if there will be an 'after show party' and Rachel will get to go!!?? I hope she manages to get some photos

There is an after show gathering each week - and it'll be a while before he's out of there.

They got the betting wrong for tonight.

Popstar To Operastar: Bernie Nolan favourite to win, Darius Campbell to go?

February 12th, 2010 by Lisa McGarry. Tags: bernie nolan, Darius Campbell, itv, Popstar to Operastar

Bernie Nolan has become the bookies favourite to win ITV’s Popstar To Operastar. The ‘Nolan Sisters’ singer, has revealed that she is competing on the show in honour of her late opera singing mother.

Bet365 are offering odds of 5/4 on Bernie stealing the show’s title this month and are also predicting that former Pop Idol star Darius Campbell will leave tonight.

Corrie actress Kym Marsh is 10/3 to win, ahead of former favourite Marcella Detroit who is now 7/2 with Bet365.

I can't believe they made Darius move about and sing the Champagne Aria.

Professional operastars don't on the whole! So obviously a ploy to limit his chance of getting the breathing right.

It had to come - a post saying Darius was MIMING and all in bold with a string of exclamation marks.

Sure, they let one contestant in the semi-final mime. What are these people on?

I suppose it's actually a backhanded compliment and just underlines what a fantastic performance he gave

He didn't sing flat , like Kym

He wasn't straining at the neck, like Marcella

And he wasn't all breathy like Bernie.

yet he did it and made it look effortless, i know his baritone didnt get chance to shine as much as last week, but it was so fast.it does look as if he could up he at next week, if they give him something fitting, or a duet, bernies face looked as if she was giving it everything, blood vessels fit to burst ..

i had my hands over my eyes at the start, after that vt, expecting hm not to be able to do it, but as soon as he opened his mouth and started, i was enjoying it immensely

the opera buff i have a peek at said it was good, although she siad objectively it wouldnt pass muster in opera land, she doesnt rate bernie, nor do other per ypes, ty see past the continual praise.and see the breathless, out of time stuff

I think he missed out a 'deve' at the end.

Darius definitely has another gear. He just needs the material to prove it.

I looked on facebook at 9am this morning and Darius posted 8 hours ago. How nice of him to thnik to post at 1 in the morning. :)

OMG....thank you all so so much. I am incredibly happy to be in the final next week. I just can't believe it...I wouldn't have got this far without you all and your support. You are the best fans ever and I hope you can all join me for one last week ? Lots of love ...D x

Just as the bar closed. Darius has been stitched up so many times that he can't just relax and trust people. He's seen where that leads him just to often. Being given an aria which shows of long practised breath control but has not much connection to an audience maybe made him thing he was again being set up. He did really well in this one even with days less than the others had - less time down to him, no one else, and yet did really well. Not perfect but he hasn't exactly been training in operatic singing for a long time. His performance was brilliant. How great is it that he was so good someone thought he was miming?

Certainly didn't hear their reply, and I'm sure it's because they knew D was right

Exactly right about the aria Julie, even if D was excellent(which he was) he could only acheive an ok reception. An similar example might be having 2 divers, one who has a single dive in from the side of the pool, the other who is given a triple reverse somersault with 1 and a half twists from a 10M high board. If the guy on the side of the pool produces a perfect dive and the other person only manages an ok dive, the ok diver will win as his marks are still going to be higher than the man completing the perfect poolside dive! Sorry for the the long winded analogy, but it's just so frustrating how they want to control and restrict D's performance, whilst permitting others to shine in the few areas that they are capable of

Marcella was better this week, and overall. I haven't warmed to her at all, but she should have been in the final alongside D IMO. I think Bernie is a nice lady, but I haven't liked how she has celebrated each week after going through, especially as one or two of her supposed "friends" on the show, were to be departing immediately after. The worse thing for me though, is how positively biased Rolando has been with his comments and attitude towards her

Darius must've known they would use the footage against him and it's not like he chose an easy alternative aria. He chose one of the arias of the Queen of the Night's enemy Soastro(?), one that the opera buffs had been saying they would love to see him tackle.

I think he'd just reached the point where he needed to strike a blow for his sanity and let them know he knew what they were up to, even if it turned off voters. He trusted his fans.

I think B.P. is right. They knew it suited his voice better.

It was an aria which had variation and a chance to show emotion and range unlike the Champagne aria which has no highs or impressive bass notes.

Julia the words of that aria are difficult to remember because some repeats are the same and some come in a different order from before.

There's at least one professional youtube clip (possibly of Simon Keenlyside or an American opera singer) where people have commented that he got confused with the repetiton of the dances references.

I was amazed at how well Darius handled it. I certainly didn't hear him running out of breath or cutting phrases by breathing in the wrong place. I don't think I've actually been aware of Darius breathing during any performance, although of course he must.

:yahoo: So pleased Darius got through!! ....... Dread to think what my husband will say when the phone bill comes in tho!!

I can understand why he was initially concerned about the Champagne Aria but his singing performance, while not perfect, was exceptional given the breathing problems associated with such a fast, wordy piece and the acting performance was superb too! I just wish that sometimes he had more faith in himself - that's 2 weeks now that he's put unnecessary pressure on himself.

Kym's performance wasn't her best, Marcella was good but I just can't warm to her. Bernie was my favourite female last night but some of the high notes seemed more shouted than sung.

As for the judges, I can accept what Rolando & Katherine say most of the time as they have experience and on the whole it's constructive criticism. I never really liked LLB - then he & his wife did a tourist programme on NI and just came across as pretentious and snobby <_< . Watching him and hearing his 'critique' last night said it all about him really. Particularly when Darius was talking and you could see him virtually snearing! As for Meat Loaf - whilst I love some of his music, just how can someone critique 4 other singers then put in a performance like his last night - it was just horrendous!!!

Once again there was no comment from Katherine.

So only 2 out of 5 opportunities to comment so far.
