It was all the other stuff not the performances which created a bad impression of Darius and his ability.

 

I have no doubt that was what led to the backlash when Darius made the final.

 

Other people's fans just couldn't see how it was possible. His comments were always comparatively pretty bland, lukewarm, none of the judges seemed to rate him in the VTs either and he was never highlighted by any of them in their summing up at the end. Their girls had always had more positive comments.

 

Revealing the percentage votes has removed all doubt that Darius had a rightful place in the final. they made it clear it was B & D all the way, except Granada week.

 

That was the VT where Darius was made to look lazy with Rolando accusing him of not learning his words and Laurence's comment about not understanding a word of his French, cemented it in the public's head and the rest of the VT went on to show Darius apparently stropping for a long time and NOT being able to sing the song.

 

Marcella rose into 2nd place.

 

She was singing the hardest aria in the sopranos canon, you know. The judges were tripping over themselves to compliment her YES! YES! YES! from Rolando. No chiaca ciaca though - that was saved for Bernie.

 

 

In the full list Darius has the same percentage as Kym in week 4 but he retains 2nd place, so he must have had a few votes more.

 

Apparently, if DS is to be believed, there won't be a second series of Pop Star to Opera Star.

Well I'm ready to step back on this journey with Darius I only got off because I thought it had ended. Glad to see I was wrong

I never got off, think I got a ticket for the terminus..I may reach it before he does though.

He left - we didn't. I do understand that he had to follow his heart and wouldn't have had it otherwise. It'd have been awful if he had stayed and been unhappy. Let's just hope he keeps remembering how to post updates.

so did I, I was so glad he didnt duet with Katherine, no disrespect..but she duets with every tom dick and harry, and isnt an opera, but a classical singer.

Rolando - what a dream come true!! I didnt expect there to be room for emotion with the two men dueting, but there was so much, it was electric -

People I've spoken to who know nothing about opera were very swayed by what the judges said and the VTs and has no idea how difficult the pieces given to Darius were.

Yes, we're all waiting to catch the next bus to goodness knows where, but at least now we're on the move at last. Sue

they are bound to be,i started off believing them- i coudnt tell if any of them were singing the right words,or missing bits, or at the wrong tempo- then all i went on was what it sounded and looked like..they went on about transposed arias with darius,, but evidently other contestants were transposed down or not in the correct key, or the incorrect notes hit..the judges should have been even handed

i learnt a lot reading posts from people knowing their arias...from their elbows

In Carry on up the Khyber they were a Scottish regiment and wore kilts. The plot, such as it is, only works with kilts, not breeks!

 

Darius would have been only too happy to work with the cast of that film, he could've got his wish to wear his kilt for the final.

There is a thread taken on DS about the Sun saying it will get the chop and they are jumping on the bandwagon as if it were gospel and making derogatory comments about it. It may be that Rolando is not available again and it might be difficult to get someone suitable to replace him.. 4.6million is not to be sniffed at especially when it was up against Eastenders etc. There are other shows that are doing worse.It will be interesting to see what andrew lloyd webbers tv show to find dorothy for the wizard of oz does.

The "insider" says the bosses wanted 5 million. $.6 isn't that far away considering the show added .8 million at semi-final stage.

 

They put it on on Fridays not Saturdays, ,against the last stage of CBB including its final and new episodes of Silent Witnes and then the final against the aftermath programme following the live Eastenders and it still was the best of the terrestial 5 in its last 2 weeks. Interest was building. Word of mouth was working.

 

They should have had subtitles at least. And they should have allowed a couple of weeks without a public vote to get to see more of them starting their training and maybe singing arias in small groups ( no harmonies).

 

ITV were brave to commission this enjoyable wholesome programme for family viewing; cutting it when it was on the rise would be cowardice.

it didnt get the hype, media coverage(well it got some very negative)that other reality shows get,it did start up against cbb, andhalf way through silent witness...

but as you say it built up, 4.6 mill isnt far off 5, and it gained towards the end, far better than losing over the weeks.

i cannot imagine for one second, darius or his family being so ungracious and small,, had he come second, bernies exit ...no interview, i found astonishingly bad mannered-
