That's only because the writers can't write strong female characters at the minute without making them massively unlikeable or heartless bitches (the worst affected being Carla). Kat Kelly is by far the best actress they have aside from Alison King, they should be gutted to lose her.

The character is just awful (probably due to her script/storyline) and now I can't wait for her to leave. No way though is Katharine Kelly the best actress in it at the moment (she's not the worst - that honour is reserved for Samia Smith, Jennie McAlpine and Brooke Vincent).

The most worrying thing I find about the Becky character (and why its vital that they get rid of her) is that I find myself preferring and even rooting for Tracey now - only because Becky is SO annoying. I did find it hilarious in Friday night's episode when she said to Steve 'Getting drunk's no way to solve things'

Of the menfolk - the sooner they get shut of Graeme the better.

After whats happened with Becky, theres no way she could really stay on the Street once everything comes out.

Best actress on the show? Come on Jark

I'll be glad to see the back of her tbh, she grates on me nowadays.

Bring back Karen I say!

Sometimes I do wonder what criteria Jark bases his 'best actress' on! The mind does boggle at times.

And yes! It would be fabulous to have Karen back!

I'm not being funny Kath but you think Sally Dynevor is a great actress! Kat Kelly is stonking, it's just the writing that isn't up to scratch.
Quite boring tonight, too much Maria.

She'd send a glass eye to sleep wouldn't she?

I'm liking Roy's mum.

I guess its what you prefer in acting styles. It does seem that you sometimes liken over-acting with good acting.

Having said that - in all the fuss over the 'tram' affair in Corrie - I thought the best scenes acting was from Sally in her scenes with Kevin ... whilst everyone else seemed to prefer the teary-eyed Leanne. Yes I know I'm in a minority - but I do prefer a more understated performance to a face-pulling, screech-fest!

Kath

LOL well once again we differ but I would never call Sally's acting style 'understated' although I will give you that in the immediate aftermath of the Molly/Kevin reveal and in the rubble with Molly she was tolerable. However in the past several months she's been hammy at the best of times (though the entire story has been a farce).

I just prefer a slicker acting style which doesn't fall back on excess slices of ham. I don't think Jane Danson is particularly good (she's rather bland) but Alison King is glorious, Helen Worth is brilliant at comedy and drama, Rula Lenska is beyond fabulous etc. I just don't rate Sally at all and if anybody is guilty of over-acting it's her!

I'm glad you mentioned Helen Worth, shes very good.

I do like Helen Worth - but her strength is that she gets given very good lines to deliver and has a natural leaning towards comedy. Sometimes however, I can't watch her serious lines, and I certainly can't stomach any 'lovey' scenes she has to do - I can't take my eyes off her fluttering eyelashes. She's one of the better performers in The Street - but I honestly don't think she's that good an actress. Her character however has been very well developed ... it seems the writers have passed on instructions from generation to generation to systematically turn Gail from the fun-loving girl she used to be (yes believe it or not - she used to be a bit of a minx - at one time trying to ruin Deirdre's marriage to Ray Langton) into her mother-in-law Ivy Tilsley.

I tend to judge people on how well I think they'd do in a drama away from Corrie and I don't think she'd be any good (other than perhaps comedy). I'd cite Jean Alexander as a prime example of someone who needed The Street more than it needed her. I could personally not stand the character of Hilda Ogden but will admit she was an asset to the show - however - she's been absolutely rubbish in every single thing she's done outside of it.

Then again - this is probably one of the reasons I like Helen Worth the person - she knows The Street is good for her and will stick with it for as long as the producers want her. She has no delusions about tv/film work outside of it.

For me i have to say Sally Denvor would probably rate as one of the best actresses on the show as i enjoy most of the scenes she is in,also the charactor is multi dimensional which adds to appeal, but i usually find all her scenes very engaging and realistic.

However ,im the total opposite with alison king,i cant stand her and have never enjoyed any of the stuff she has done in coronation street. I like catherine kelly and when i do watch the show i enjoy her scenes and herself and simon gregson do have great on screen chemistry, its a shame she is leaving as becky and steve have alot more mileage left in them yet, with liz and becky going that means we have a whole new side of steve to come i just hope they dont take the lazy way and have steve and tracey end up having an affair leading to becky's departure.

She is without a doubt. I don't know why Jark has such a downer on her she's constantly watchable and does have some excellent scripts. I love Jane Danson too - but Sally Dynevor could act her off the screen.

Sally Denvor is probably my favourite actress on the Street along with Helen Worth. Loved Sally telling the solicitor she was a waste of money  that was hilarious.
Todd Grimshaw's comeback on Easter Day.

Quite looking forward to that actually. Bruno Langley is a pretty good actor.

Hope the John storyline ends soon.

It is coming soon. I just wish there was a way John could pin the whole thing on Fiz and we could get rid of her instead of him! I like John - he's a sort of Basil Fawlty of The Street. Everything goes wrong for him!

Shame Katherine Kelly is leaving

Sadly there's no way forward for her character. Jark was right with his comments about the writers (getting it wrong for her character). They've painted her into a corner and there's no way she can come out of it looking good. The major nail in the coffin was when they had her stealing from the rubble of Dev's shop during the tram storyline. No matter what she needed it for - that act just can't be forgiven. Plus ... she's systematically been responsible for parting Steve from everything he ever had - money, his reputation, his best friend ... even his mother.

Have to say I thought the Easter Sunday episode was $hite!

It was indeed.

I am sorry to see Eddie go - I love the 'small' dramas that Corrie does and I thought his scenes with Gary (on Monday) were lovely.

They've GOT to get rid of Maria soon - she's been a dead weight for way too long now.
