If you have an obsession with accordion sounds, why did it take you so long to realise you loved it? :/

Because I've not heard the song through my newly repaired headphones! Somehow the sound was changed to a much better quality than before! :o Plus the old version was not that good, and frankly skipping the song everytime it comes playing. Are these reasons good enough?

 . It's an interesting song, plus I adore the 8 second folky parts at 25 secs and 1:09! Also, I love Slovenia as a country anyway so that helps.

I'm quite notorious for liking the supposed terrible entries. Slovakia was in my top 10 at this point last year  I still love Let' Tmou

I like the folky parts. I don't mind it - probably in my average category. But anything above "average" is just too much :P

"Let' Tmou" wasn't too bad, it certainly grew on me, and my scoresheet on the night probably claimed that it should've qualified.

What's really bad is that at one point last year, I really like "Mamo"

I've just written up my new personal chart to be posted tomorrow and it features one Eurovision song in the top ten - 9 days before the contest, this is a dire state of affairs (at the same stage in 2004 I had seven in the top ten!) but I can't work out if it's just because music outside of Eurovision is unusually strong for May at the moment, whether the songs are just not to my taste this year as much as usual, or a combination of both? :o

And it's not even hard to guess which song that is :kink:

Well quite  I can assure you that Satellite hasn't dived from #1 to outside the top ten. These drastic movements only happen in your chart :kink:

Satellite is amazing for me, and would have been my joint favourite with Fairytale had it been sent last year. But my 2nd favourite song this year would be about 6th or 7th in line with my 2009 rankings at this point in time...

I probably prefer "Satellite" to anything sent to Eurovision last year. Right now, my favourite from last year is probably "Et Cetera".

Don't worry, Lena will safely be in my top 10 (probably top 5) on Sunday. But I will have four new entries in my top 10 at least (Muse, Kylie & two from the Glee Cast).

Last year was incredible for me. I still regularly play La Voix, Fairytale, It's My Time, Is It True, Lose Control (it's my ringtone still ) and The Highest Heights, and to a lesser extent Believe Again, Jan Jan and Always. Compared to 2008 for example, I really only still play Era Stupendo, Hero and Hold On Be Strong. 2009 was definitely my favourite contest of the 00's, songs and results wise

From last year, I still regularly play The Highest Heights, Jan Jan, La Voix, Is It True, Be My Valentine, Bistra Voda, Fairytale, and Et S'il Fallait Le Faire. 2009 was the perfect final in almost every way

2008: Hero, Hold On Be Strong, Shady Lady, The Fire In Your Eyes, This Is My Life, Qele Qele

2007: Molitva, Song #1, Ven A Bailar Conmigo, Comme Ci Comme Ca

2006: Invincible, Never Let You Go, Alvedansen, Je T'Adore, Twist of Love, No No Never, Show Me Your Love

2005: Cool Vibes, In My Dreams, My Number One

2007's not quite as good as I remember it being

Mine would be (and I'm only counting ones that I still listen to all year round, regularly);

2009: La Voix, Fairytale, It's My Time, Is It True, Lose Control, The Highest Heights

2008: Hero, Hold On Be Strong, Era Stupendo

2007: Song #1, The Worrying Kind, Flying The Flag (For You) (:drama:), Water, Work Your Magic

2006: Invincible, Alvedansen, Teenage Life, No No Never, Je T'Adore

2005: Cool Vibes, My Number One

2004: It Hurts, On Again...Off Again, Jugarem-A-Estimar-Nos, Wild Dances

2003: Give Me Your Love, Open Your Heart, Let's Get Happy, I'm Not Afraid To Move On, Keine Grenzen, Hello From Mars, Don't Break My Heart

2002: 7th Wonder, I Can't Live Without Music, Runaway, Come Back

2001: Everybody, Je N'ai Que Mon Ame, Listen To Your Heartbeat, Die For You

2000: My Heart Goes Boom

2003 was rather amazing looking back, a lot of the songs all still sound so fresh and contemporary now, more so than a lot of the contests that followed it :o

I think my equivalent of that list would be pretty huge :heehee:
I think my equivalent of that list would be pretty huge :heehee:

 I rarely put any Eurovision songs on between late June and early January...so the ones that make this list are the cream of the crop, and have made a lasting impression on me! Even so, I probably only play them a couple of times a month at most. I just seem not to listen to any Eurovision songs in the latter half of the year :o

I just realised my Last FM would have a fairly good representation of what ESC tracks I listen to regularly...

My top 500 tracks of the last 12 months feature:

01. Inga & Anush - Jan-Jan

02. Yohanna - Is It True?

03. Nelly Ciobanu - Hora Din Moldova

04. Nela & Kamil - Let' Tmou

05. Urban Symphony - Randajad

06. Regina - Bistra Voda

07. Waldo's People - Lose Control

08. Quartissimo - Love Symphony

09. Flor-De-Lis - Todas As Ruas Do Amor

10. Malena Ernman - La Voix

11. Svetlana Loboda - Be My Valentine!

12. Carola - Invincible

13. Hadise - Dum Tek Tek

14. Igor Cukrov - Lijea Tena

15. Alexander Rybak - Fairytale

16. Sinead Mulvey & Black Daisy - Et Cetera

17. Patricia Kaas - Et S'il Fallait Le Faire

18. Alenka Gotar - Cvet Z Juga

19. Euroband - This Is My Life

20. Sakis Rouvas - This Is Our Night

21. Charlotte Perrelli - Hero

22. Jessica Garlick - Come Back

23. Ishtar - O Julissi

24. Nusa Derenda - Energy

25. Pall Oskar - Minn Hinsti Dans

26. Kalomira - Secret Combination

27. Jade Ewen - It's My Time

28. Olta Boka - Zemren E Lame Peng

29. Jelena Tomasevic - Oro

30. Christina Metaxa - Firefly

Probably more biased towards the 2009 entries due to it going back to May last year...

I'd also add in the following based on CD/MP3 listens:

ABBA - Waterloo

Alexandra & Konstantin - My Galileo

Anjeza Shahini - The Image Of You

Baccara - Parlez-Vous Francais?

Bardo - One Step Further

Birgitta - Open Your Heart

Catherine Ferry - Un Deux Trois

Charlotte Nilsson - Take Me To Your Heaven

Christine Guldbrandsen - Alvedansen

Deep Zone & Balthazar - DJ Please Take Me Away

Dervish - They Can't Stop The Spring

DQ - Drama Queen

Elitsa & Stoyan - Water

Global Kryner - Y Asi

Ich Troje - Follow My Heart

Lou - Let's Get Happy

Marlain - In The Name Of Love

Natasha St-Pier - Je N'ai Que Mon Ame

Neiokoso - Tii

Nox - Forogj Vilag

Paolo Meneguzzi - Era Stupendo

Ruslana - Wild Dances

Selma - If I Had Your Love

Sestre - Samo Ljubezen

Severina - Moja Stikla

Sopho - Visionary Dream

Zeljko Joksimovic - Lane Moje

Some real classics there, but also some terrible crap  Nice to see another fan of Y Asi, but since you like Slovenia this year, no surprise  :kink:
Anything with either an accordion, huge drums, a double bass, women shouting or yodelling will be a favourite of mine :kink:
 I tend to be more of a schlagerboy. But I do seem to have a thing about Central European folk music

Oh yeah schlager too

I love Central and Eastern European folk and turbofolk, particularly Slovenia/Croatia/Serbia etc and Moldova/Ukraine.

There's a the whole culture whose music is this combination of violin, accordion, etc. They're called Gypsy people (and not those who walk on the streets asking for money nowadays, even though they dress like gypsies). My mom knew many gypsy people in her time, but it was completely different time back then. However the culture still exists in the country.

You are sounding pretty disrespectful if you ask my opinion though, like this music has to be banned from sending onto Eurovision as it's some kind of fancy VIP thing.

If you want some really average gypsy motives in a song then listen to last year's 'Aven Romale'. :kink:

I know, I wasn't strictly thinking of gypsies, but that's basically the image it creates. I'm not saying it all sounds awful, I'm saying it's the sort of entry the UK laughs at and nine times out of ten it's my least favourite type of Eurovision entry. I'm just not a fan of accordions. I'm not dismissing it all though, did you miss Latvia being in my top 5?! I'd say it's in the same vein as the Finnish entry, only about 50 times better. (because it's about as R&B as you can make an accordion sound )

And yes, that was my least favourite entry last year I believe. I think I've listened to them all for the last three years? (though I seem to have deleted the ones from 2008 that I didn't like.)

For the record I'd say the contests have got weaker since I started. :( I'd say there are about 10 from the past two years that I still enjoy on occasion.

01. Kalomoira - Secret Combination (Greece 2008)

02. Aysel & Arash - Always (Azerbaijan 2009)

03. Maria Haukaas Storeng - Hold On Be Strong (Norway 2008)

04. Jade Ewen - It's My Time (United Kindgom 2009)

05. Johanna Gudrun Jonsdottir - Is It True? (Iceland 2009)

06. Sirusho - Qele, Qele (Armenia 2008)

07. Tereza Kerndlova - Have Some Fun (Czech Republic 2008)

08. Hadise - Dum Tek Tek (Turkey 2009)

09. No Angels - Disappear (Germany 2008)

10. Ani Lorak - Shady Lady (Ukraine 2008)

Six 2008 songs to four in 2009. Two songs for 2010?

i guess i'll do mine... i'm not patient enough to rank them all so i'll just split them in few groups but they will be in no particular order within the group with opinions on some

Songs i LOVE

Iceland: Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi

Finland: Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki Ellää

it's grown on me, not gonna lie. didn't like it at all on first listen, but i have a soft spot for Finland (they are my fav European hockey nation and my all time fav player - Teemu Selanne- comes form there so i guess i was biased enough to not give up on one try.

Spain: Daniel Diges - Algo Pegueñito

OMG i LOVE LOVE LOVE this song. and can't understand the heat it gets all over the internet. it's so sweet, sad but magical. the lyrics are pretty too... it's so often we don't do the smallest things that would matter a lot more than some big gestures...

Romania: Paula Seling & Ovi - Playing With Fire

Germany: Lena Meyer-Landrut - Satellite

quirky, weird, cute, memorable... waht else do you need :D

Switzerland: Michael von der Heide - Il Pleut De L'or

can't take him seriously when looking at him, but i'm such a sucker for that style of music... i don't care who would sing that, just sing it.

Armenia: Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

like it a lot. though something about "my cherished fruit" makes me uncomfortable

Israel: Harel Skaat - Milim

Bulgaria: Miro - Angel Si Ti

Slovakia: Kristina - Horehronie

Latvia: Aisha - What For?

Belarus: Three Plus Two - Butterflies

i rarely like my home country's entry ( i did like Koldun a bit :) )but i'm very proud of them this year. pretty high quality product they brought to the contest... but please lose the cheesy, cliche wings... urgh! the dresses, smoke, confetti and light show would have been enough and very tasteful

Norway: Didrik Solli-Tangen - My Heart Is Yours

dude can sing!

Turkey: maNga - We Could Be The Same

songs that i like...

Croatia: Feminnem - Lako Je Sve

when i look at them i can't help but think "Sex and the City gone [i'm still not sure how to end it]" and that's a bad thing, just so you know... but the song itself is pretty good...

Netherlands: Sieneke - Ik Ben Verliefd (Sha-La-Lie)

it's nice... but WAY too retro without any twist whatsoever... did they get the memo that it's 2010, not 1970?

United Kingdom: Josh Dubovie - That Sounds Good To Me

i'm probably among very few that gives this entry the light of day... it's nothing special, but 7 out of 10 times it comes up on my mp3 player i don't skip it lol

Belgium: Tom Dice - Me And My Guitar

John Mayer's little brother... it's nice to listen to, but definitely not for a contest like that

Albania: Juliana Pasha - It's All About You

Ireland: Niamh Kavanagh - It's For You

"well, ok... i guess i can listen to them once or twice" songs

Serbia: Milan Stankovic - Ovo Je Balkan

Cyprus: Jon Lilygreen & The Islanders - Life Looks Better In Spring

Lithuania: InCulto - Eastern European Funk

and the rest of the songs that do absolutely nothing for me

Sweden: Anna Bergendahl - This Is My Life

i can't get past her voice that i don't like... i might like the song if someone else sang it, but i wasn't able to listen through it once... not that the voice is bad... just not my thing...

Denmark: Chanée & N´evergreen - A Moment Like This

did some crazy fan-scientist clone Police and ABBA in one act? can't even call it a love-child... it's so cold, generic and calculated...

Azerbaijan: Safura - Drip Drop

don't get the hype around that one at all... i've heard this song 100s time before... well not THIS song, but it has nothing new to offer. and that "drip drop drip drop" is so annoying... can someone pass me the wrench to fix that faucet?

Moldova: SunStroke Project & Olia Tira - Run Away

France: Jessy Matador - Allez Olla Olé

Poland: Marcin Mroziński - Legenda

Georgia: Sopho Nizharadze - Shine

Ukraine: Alyosha - Sweet People

Malta: Thea Garrett - My Dream

Greece: Giorgos Alkaios & Friends - Opa

Estonia: Malcom Lincoln - Siren

Bosnia-Herzegovina: Vukašin Brajić - Thunder And Lightning

FYR Macedonia: Gjoko Taneski - Jas Ja Imam Silata

Portugal: Filipa Azevedo - Há Dias Assim

"WTF" songs

Russia: Peter Nalitch & Friends - Lost And Forgotten

Slovenia: Anzambel Žlindere & Kalamari - Narodnozabavni Rock

Interesting views! Welcome to the forum, and hope you post in here more :D

Controversial comments about Denmark, I think the fact that it's devoid of any emotion or personality is the major thing going against it as musically and technically it's a strong pop song.

Very similar to my tastes this year as well! Glad to see some more love to Daniel Diges! I thought i was the only one  (Who'd have thought that it'd grow on me that much, after my overreaction about Spain choosing him over incredible Coral! lolz)
Iceland: Hera Björk - Je Ne Sais Quoi

Finland: Kuunkuiskaajat - Työlki Ellää

Same top 2! :cheer:
