Posted July 6, 200619 yr Sunderland have rejected an offer from Premiership newcomers Reading for midfielder Dean Whitehead. It is understood that Royals manager Steve Coppell had made a bid of £1.2m for the 24-year-old. However, Black Cats chief executive Peter Walker insisted: "Dean is an important part of our plans." Whitehead joined Sunderland from Oxford in 2004, and was one of the few players to impress as they were relegated from the Premiership last season. sorce: bbc sport So the first Sunderland player to be bid on by a premiership team for next season.
