September 27, 201014 yr Oh BuzzJack :( Sexism at it's worse here. Surely it's quite obvious to even the most casual of viewers that Ian and Max are (alongside Phil) the strongest male characters the show has. There's no denying the female characters dominate the show, and fundamentally are much stronger than the males but having them scrap in at the bottom of the top 30 is just embarassing.
September 27, 201014 yr Is THAT IT for the next few months? (Sadly, until Tony backed you up I was about to declare with much relish that it WAS just you :()
September 27, 201014 yr I used to hate Max, I supose he is a good actor, but his character makes me sick, and his looks don't get me started, he is hideous! Mabye a 1 was a bit harsh though, I would vote higher now I think
September 27, 201014 yr I used to think Max looked like the skin on a grandad's elbow. But for some strange reason he has become more attractive since he started wearing tighter trousers.
September 28, 201014 yr Author I'm spoiling you with a quick update just before I go to class! 26 Phil Mitchell 6.75 +++ 10 from Delta, Mikey & Shoat --- 01 from Theo (Last year: 33rd, 4.76) Phil (or Philth, as they call imaginatively call him on the DS forums) had a quiet 2009, doing little except rewriting the employer/employee etiquette rulebook by sleeping with Shirley and then sacking her for not turning up on time (every week). In recent months Steve McFadden has proven himself to be one of the most capable actors in soap and I expect he'll manage a top 20 finish in the next rate but as with many of the oldies but goodies, some fans might find it difficult to be excited by his character. I read something recently about how Phil and Grant were first introduced as a sort of E20 version of the Kray twins, which I find quite odd today, given that Phil is not exactly a terrifying gun-toting gangster revered by all around him, but rather a bizarre sort of reverse-misfit who seems to be living out his teenage years despite being fifty-odd. Still, the fact that they're still charting new territory for his character after almost twenty years is encouraging. I think we can expect lots more red-faced shouting n' crying (along with that pathological fear of all things police) for a while to come! 25 Syed Masood 6.81 +++ 09 from Delta & Jamesp --- 01 from Theo If I was to use just one word to describe the eldest Masood sibling it would probably be 'inoffensive', and it seems Buzzjack agrees given that, rather cruel 01 from Theo aside, his lowest score was one 04, and he failed to manage a single 10. Thinking about it I'm not entirely sure what the brief might've been when Syed's character was created, aside from 'closet case', because he doesn't have any defining personality traits. 'Fascinating hair' perhaps. In fairness to old SY he has chemistry with his family, and bounced well off Amira, but his character really is not benefitting in the slightest from the Christian association (although Buzzjack quite bizarrely voted Christian higher in this rate). Sure, he listens to Kylie more now and that automatically makes anybody 5.3x more likeable, but he's also had a rancid old queen inside of him when in reality he could have his PICK of the gheys. Oh well. There's plenty of time for him to dump old Dorothy yet and move on to a nice twinky piece of meat. Janine turns Ryan gay storyline, anybody? 24 'Big' Mo Harris 6.81 +++ 10 from Luke --- 01 from Theo (Last year: 17th, 6.24) Once again Buzzjack disgraces itself with its love of all things vagina by placing Mo Harris - most famous for being the squeeze of the elusive Fat Elvis and inexplicably managing to sell faulty goods such as bruised fruit or broken toys on the market for actual profit - higher than the likes of Ian, Max and Phil. This prejudice should really stop. In all seriousness Mo is a fabulous supporting character - quite possibly the hammiest actor on the show (it still cracks me up that she is the actual sister of famed and talented Hollywood actor Gary Oldman) who frequently veers into parody territory, with properly funny results - but the 24th-best in Walford? I think not. Must stop voting with the gay half of your brains next year, Buzzjack. 23 'Aunt' Sal Martin 6.94 +++ 10 from Feelthefever --- 02 from Dandy Another ludicrous placing but quite frankly I can get totally on board with this one because Aunt Sal is the TITS. I think you know you've made it when Tracey actually calls you Aunt Sal despite not being related in any way (a rare thing in Walford)! You can always rely on Sal to pop up during the most testing times in the Mitchell household, ready with a sneer and a wildly un-PC comment about Billy's daughter or Peggy's roast dinner. Sadly these days are behind us now and chances are we'll never see her again - unless of course Peggy should return one day. I was going to be post a link to Sal's finest moment - wowing Ronnie, Roxy and a bunch of OAPs at the community centre by EATING FIRE (!) - but disgracefully it isn't on youtube!
September 28, 201014 yr Delta is me I assume? Did I really give Syed a 9 :o 7 would have been more appropriate I think... Phil is way way too low here though... Aunt Sal was a genius character. Helped to make the soap a little bit more realistic - most families have relatives come at xmas/family occasions from outside the area.
September 28, 201014 yr I gave Big Mo a 10? wtf!? I would probably give her a 7 max If I did it now, shows how long ago this was!
September 28, 201014 yr Mo is indeed very much so too high. A character who fits nicely into the background, having minor roles in storylines recolving any of the Slaters which suits the character fine. Most definatly not the 24th best on the show howeever. Syed being higher than the show's three leading males is again not great (is Christian the male left in the countdown?), especially ahead of Phil who is now probably one of the greatest assets to the show. Sal was legendery. The rant to Peggy about her family was equally as brilliant as the fire stunt, infact was it her final scene? Shame it's unlikely we'll be seeing her again unless Barbara returns to the show.
September 28, 201014 yr Phil should be wayyy Higher I do expect a Lacey Turner victory but it will be deserved,
September 29, 201014 yr Author 22 Chelsea Fox 7.00 +++ 10 from Ryan --- 03 from Feelthefever (Last year: 24th, 5.65) Not everybody in life can be at the forefront of the action. Some people blend seemlessly into the crowd, comfortable with their own fabulosity as they strut n' shimmy across the road, into the pub, out of the nail salon and into a selection of wealthy mens' beds. They're happy knowing that their pout is their greatest asset. Chelsea Fox is one such person. Her placing here surprises me given that nobody on Buzzjack has ever agreed with me on the numerous occasions on which I've tried to spread the word about her life-enhancing existence, but I ain't complaining. In reality 22nd is about where I would place her in a list of my favourite characters - she did her best with the source material and like so many Walford exits she really began to shine during her final few months on the square. It takes a certain OPEN MINDEDNESS to declare your love and devotion for a crippled man with whom you've been sharing a bed for all of two weeks - only Saint Chelsea of Booty. 21 Amira Syed 7.13 +++ 09 from Feelthefever, Gary, Gooddelta, Jark & Mikey --- 04 from Dandy, Mikeyjosh & Theo In contrast to Chelsea we have her closest friend Amira, who after being introduced as a self-obsessed, pampered daddy's girl quickly transformed into one of the most loveable characters on the square - selfless, devoted to Syed and desperate for him to be happy. In a way it was a shame Amira grew to become such a strong character when her time in Walford was so limited, but at least the writers saw sense and left the door open for a return - perhaps when Christian turns Syed straight she will come back and they can be the most stunning and flawless and beautiful and mesmerising couple who ever coupled.
September 29, 201014 yr Phil Mitchell number 26 and 'Aunt' Sal, Syed and Amira all higher than him. Wtf. -_-
September 29, 201014 yr Amira simply must return, the character grew to become one of my very favourites towards the end. And Preeya Kalidas's singing career is hardly going down all that well either. Chelsea I really liked aswell, and whilst I agree with Jark that certain characters are better suited playing the second fiddle and never quite being the forefront of the show I do feel that Chelsea was a character who should have at least been given a shot at a few better more exiting storylines. Be nice if Tiana would return aswell to be honest. I'm suprised to see Chelsea this high, she probably should be a tad lower in all honesty but she's always been the type of character I tend to adore.
September 29, 201014 yr Phil Mitchell number 26 and 'Aunt' Sal, Syed and Amira all higher than him. Wtf. -_- Welcome to Buzzjack.
September 29, 201014 yr Author JamesP it's PEOPLE LIKE YOU who make me want to never finish this countdown. You whinge constantly that I don't do anything and then when I do ten characters in three days you don't even have anything to say about any of them!
September 29, 201014 yr The term 'Saint Chelsea of Booty' made me do a big fat MOOPY GRIN. That's my input for that section.
September 29, 201014 yr I liked the aforementioned characters too, does this mean Masood's still to come, or have I missed him?
September 29, 201014 yr The female characters are better in EE so it's no surprise that they are doing better in this rate - but it does seems a little biased.
