I dont want to listen to the semi :( This is clearly Aarons revenge for all the death threats.

Nope, just the course of random.org :kink:

Just voted, and I have to say, there were NO awful songs, and NO particular indie songs.

I agree, there was a lot less indie than I expected, in semi 1 at least - yes a lot of the songs were more respectable than usual but none of them were inaccessible, all had some merit and catchiness in my opinion

That's because Semi 2 has all the bloody indie :kink:

enjoy :P I'll take a listen to semi 2 later out of curiosity!

I don't think we should do either this month, if anything the predicta thread is a more solid judgement than the odds which are very loose

I know a few songs I think will probably do well and a few that will almost certainly flop but I don't really want to say anything this month because it's not as obvious who will and won't do well and it will add to the drama in the final!

I don't think it will make much difference tbh - after all, such an uncertain contest is bound to throw up surprises. Odds and predictions can very easily go wrong - what about everyone predicting Linda Sundblad for the win in XXII, or YENN for the top 5 in XX? :heehee:

all that proves is that rejects from Kopecka always flop unexpectedly and should never be touched once you've rejected them :kink:

seriously though, if a song is at the top of the odds thread, I WILL subconsciously pay more attention to it than a song with odds of 70/1 - this is where hype and damage comes in as well - if you see something at with odds of 7/4, you fully expect it to be stunning, which can lead to disappointment and accusations of overhype, whereas if you listened to a song with no pre-conceived idea of it, you are more likely to judge it as you would any other - it levels the playing field out a bit more...

Obviously it's hard to sway somebody's opinion of a song, but like I said, I will always pay more attention to a song that's universally agreed to be amazing than one that's universally agreed to be awful - without the odds/predicta threads we don't know which songs are good and awful until listening to them ourselves

Alcazar excepted :smoke:

didn't everyone consider Stay The Night at some point though? :kink: I went through a patch of thinking I should really send my favourite song of the year to BJSC, before realising that I would always associate it with MF. I almost always forget it was even sent to the BJSC actually :o when I think of XIX I think of the ridiculous Silly Boy domination () and the amazing Katzenjammer song  everything else is a blurred memory of a Welsh internet cafe and lots of generic female pop!
Fair enough  I'll admit it wasn't my most inspired moment, but if I hadn't have sent it no-one would. As of it's total rejection in the best of - SHAME ON YOU ALL

as a song I far prefer Stay The Night but as a BJSC entry I much preferred We Keep On Rockin' as it turned me from a casual Alcazar observer into a complete loon   I was surprised it didn't get anywhere in the Best Of, I don't know why it faced a mammoth backlash two months later, MF was already a distant memory when you sent it in August

That's fair enough, it was definitely the more original choice. Really Numayania was beaten to a pulp in TBO, I don't know what I did for people not to vote for songs that they made top 5 in previous months... It still smarts a bit :snif:

I think everyone was so shocked that they all simultaneously voted for it casually that they felt they had to accuse it of being overrated

I see no problem with a prediction thread at the very least (they ALWAYS vary really) - although for some reason I don't see there being a single track being universally predicted for the win this month, so I reckon odds will be fine by the final week if someone wants to open them.

Yeah, I think the odds will be interesting this month. Even making the recaps I'm not sure who I think will win. I've got a few ideas, but I can't really share them anyway, as host.

Shoulda gone with The Knife this contest :( There's always next time though :magic:

Don't worry Ben i'm in SF2. I will help them as much as i can

I've nearly finished listening to everything from both semis, I can only really see 3 or 4 songs which scream 'potential winner' and these aren't necessarily my favourites, there is one song I gave 5 points to in my semi that I'm CERTAIN will DNQ

With all the indie, would that not have just watered down it's potential?

You sending Xonia feels so weird. Of all the entries in your semi, I'd have said it was one of the 'least Pavel'.

Same, I wonder if they're the same songs. I'm glad I seem to be hosting a contest without an obvious winner for once.

Looning over Eurovision does wonders.

I've listened to all of semi 2 and both of the Auto-qualifiers this afternoon - both semis are relatively balanced in my opinion - here are my ratings for semi 2
