Thanks for that TT - looking good for #6

Hi SWF - :D

I thought he had it nearly finished last year.

Maybe he's having to tweak it a bit if he's going to the US with it, 'cos I think they will follow up the release of the E.P. with the next album.

You could well be right Marguerite. I doubt they knew how his short stay in the US was going to pan out. Seems like much better than they perhaps thought - given the age of the song they used. As someone commented - you can't keep a good song down

It's good to be kept in the loop about what he's doing though - stops his "musical disciples" fretting...... well some

Yes I do believe LRN was just testing the waters for interest. As you have always said Marguerite it doesn't make sense to spend big bucks promo on material 7years old, much of which is already available on US itunes. .

Yes, I've always felt that SF had the means, by way of AI, of giving Will the chance to see how a US market would react to him. I don't mean in a taking America by storm sort of way, but whether there would be any interest at all in him, both for record sales and live gigs.

It's cost absolutely nothing to give it a go, no new recordings, no new photo shoots, and there has always been everything to gain and absolutely nothing to lose.

I think there has been enough interest, especially in the adult contemporary market, to have Will do some live stuff when he goes back in August, and to follow it up with the release of the new album, soon after (I hope :D )

I go along with that..its quite clear that the whole LRN thing was a tester for Will....the success for his appearance of a few minutes would surely have shown the record label that proper promo would reap good returns.

I cant wait for his next abum...the same as everyone..new music is the best.. :D i do so hope he stuck with the Dance pop theme for it though...he does changes things around at times.

But introducing Will with LRN would surely lead into LIG? which seems to have a natural flow to it..and then the next year..or later in the same year even..his dance pop album...i don't know..all that could be totally wrong..but either way...I do believe there will be some proper promo lined up for when he's next out there.

But introducing Will with LRN would surely lead into LIG? :

I can't see them releasing LIG in the US , the biggest tracks on the album, Changes & Grace have already been released on the LRN album over there.

Just bumping this up as I've just had a nice surprise of tickets for this popping through my door this morning!

No note or anything with it, can only be a winner in the competition in The Sun newspaper because I haven't entered anything else!

I'm really thrilled about this as I wasn't planning on going to any Will concerts this summer, and tried to be all cool about not going but having just had the chance to listen to Radio 2 performance (BLOODY AMAZING!) I am GAGGING to go! Tatton is my closest venue and I went to the last one there but I just remember it being a bit of a nightmare to get to and get out after the gig so bit worried about that aspect of it but cannot wait to see the gig itself, so excited now having resigned myself to a Will-less summer

Must see: Will Young - Party At Tatton Park

By Sarah Walters

1 / 1 imagesWill Young

Tatton Park, Cheshire - August 1, 2010

Of all the kids to graduate from the pop conveyor belt of shows like The X Factor and its predecessor Pop Idol, Will Young is the artist that has very much gone his own way.

He beat the favourite, Gareth Gates, to win his talent contest, and you’ve got to admire his ambition, which has pretty much outreached all of those that have come after him.

The secret? Diversity – and not just an enthusiasm to pursue a varied career, but an ability to really nail whatever he does. Most notably, Will has also made significant strides into acting, which is no great surprise when you consider that he was once a scholar of musical theatre.

Not since the 1980s with the Stock, Aitken & Waterman empire have musicians sky-rocketed with quite the same pace as the Pop Idol and The X Factor graduates, and Will was the first Idol to live the dream of overnight success in the Noughties.

As he recalls it, the reality was that he went “from being at drama school to having 300 people running after [his] tour bus” inside three months. Which, on the one hand, must have been the dream of every aspiring star but, on the other, may well have felt like a life-changing adjustment too far.

And yet, in both 2005 and 2007 – between recording sessions for two of his five platinum-selling albums Keep On and Let It Go – Will completed two acclaimed stints on the silver screen and on stage: in 2005, as Bertie in blockbuster Mrs Henderson Presents, and in 2007 as Nicky Lancaster in Noel Coward’s The Vortex at Manchester’s Royal Exchange Theatre.

A keen philanthropist and public speaker, Will has gained a reputation far wider than that normally afforded to a successful pop star. And it’s that broad appeal, too, that allows him – eight years on from Pop Idol – to still have the privilege of headlining venues like Tatton Park.

With a hits album to promote – featuring singles Evergreen, Leave Right Now, Changes and Grace – Young will no doubt be planning a night of sing-along classics.

£31 (£25 concs/£106 family/under-5s free). Gates open at 5pm.

Will Young - Tatton Park Picnic Concert

By Katie Fitzpatrick.

Will Young

Tatton Park Picnic Concert

August 1, 2010

The Pop Idol and X Factor phenomenon began with Will Young eight years ago.

After winning the first ever series of Pop Idol in 2002, his debut single Evergreen became the fastest selling debut single in chart history and he has sold more than eight million records and four platinum albums.

He famously ignited his career with the withering retort to judge Simon Cowell 'I don't think you could ever call that average’.

And this is no average picnic in the park.

Will bounds onto the stage - with one of Tatton Park’s beautiful lakes as a backdrop - looking handsome like George Michael circa 1984, tanned in a pale grey suit, with designer stubble and big curly hair.

With a delighted wave to the picnicking crowd dotted around concert area - and die-hard fans who have faithfully waited for him in a cordoned-off area at the front of the stage - Will launches into the pounding hit Switch It On.

And Switch It On he does, taking us on a whistle-stop tour through his greatest hits and favourites including the sublime You and I, Friday’s Child, Love is a Matter of Distance and the more recent Grace and Changes.

He banters happily with the crowd, even stopping to sign and read extracts from his book On Camera, Off Duty and he borrows a fan’s Batman hat and later a balloon to hold for Leave Right Now - the hit that cemented him as a national treasure.

As well as his vocal gymnastics - shown to full effect in a surprise cover of the rhythm and blues classic Hit the Road Jack - Will also showcases his theatricality in some nifty dance moves.

Even if you stay loyal to The Doors' original Light My Fire, his version has an energy and enthusiasm that is always more than just sing by numbers.

And he always manages to convince us he is singing the Pop Idol winner’s song Evergreen to somebody he loves.

With his distinctive tremulous voice and mellow, soulful collection of hits Will has proven that he has grown to rightfully become one of our most successful male solo singers.
