The German chart is based on revenue and not sales units, and the German charts company don't reveal sales data. They keep them highly secret, what people can know are the certifications, that's it.

iTunes has a big influence but as far as I know there is another download site (musicload if I'm right) that is bigger, I'm not sure though.

^^no, I-Tunes is bigger than musicload, has been for a while now.

Someone told this for a year or so, but I think it was inevitable, that iTunes will take over as biggest digital store. Though I don't think it has such a high share as in the UK.

How much does a single need to sell in Germany to be certified Platinum, Gold and Silver?

From this weeks top 20 in Germany, are any of those songs at least Silver? It gives me an idea of what sales we're looking at in the German market.

Look at here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_music..._certifications

I read somewhere that Paparazzi was certified gold in January (150k). And The Fame has sold 500k. So sales are not very high.

PS: certifications this year: http://www.musikindustrie.de/gold_platin_datenbank/ (the site is in German language though)

There is no Silver in Germany.

For a #1 in the singles chart I think you need to sell 20k-30k. On the albums charts it depends on the releases, between 20k-200k.

"Tik Tok" was already certified Gold (150k) after 3 weeks on the chart, but it sold pretty well as a download before its actual release.

The only single selling over a million in the last 6-7 years was DJ Ötzi's "Ein Stern".

Albumwise there's a million seller every 2-3 years.

Ash I read something about a possible change in compiling the German charts. Do you know more? Maybe you posted it on UKmix.

They're doing a survey to find out if the industry likes the current chart rules or if they should change something, first of all the revenue based system.

Plus they apparently want to create an official German chart homepage (most probably www.charts.de) and ask for what should be on there.

This could still take some time.

There are midweeks in Germany, but we don't have access to them.

We'll know Cheryl's final position on Monday or Tuesday.

Any info on Avril's 'Alice'?

It will be released on Friday.
