Tonight, the Slovak national final for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest took place. The TV public gave full marks to Kristína, while the expert jury had here in second place. Thus, she will represent Slovakia in Oslo with Horehronie!

After six quarter-finals and two semi-finals, it was finally time for the final of the Slovak national selection for the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest tonight. In an entertaining show, presented by Martin "Pyco" Rausch with additional reports from the Green Room by Martin Kontur, the winner was decided through a combination of televoting and the verdict of an expert jury. The jury comprised Ľubica Čekovská, Ján Lehotský and Martin Sarvaš. As special guests of the show, Fabrizio Faniello and Claudia Faniello from Malta performed. This is the result of the final (in order of appearance, winner in bold):

In the end, 22-year-old Kristína Peláková won with her ethnic pop song Horehronie, the lyrics of which were written by the famous national poet Kamil Peteraj and praise a mountainous region of Slovakia. Kristína has already had several hit singles in Slovakia, and she released her first CD album ...Ešte Váham in 2008. Now she will have an opportunity to get known by a broader audience through her participation in the 2010 Eurovision Song Contest. She will appear in the first half of the First Semi-Final in Oslo, to take place on the 25th of May.

Decent song. Not groundbreaking, but a decent effort nevertheless. ^_^ Amongst my favourites this year I think.
There was literally nothing of any great standard in all of their heats, this was the best on offer, so well done Slovakia! :D . I prefer last years entry though.
I love it, great choice. Shame it's in the first half of it's semi-final, but should still get through. Something about it just screams WINNER at me
I actually like this a lot on first listen, very ethnic, love the intro :D

I don't wanna seem like a downer. The song might be good: But lets face it, Slovakia could never qualify, as much as I would like them to.

They are slap bang in the middle of Europe and the only country that is likely to vote for them (as Eurovision tends to be a political contest on a number of cases) is Cz\ech Republic. And they can't vote for eachother.

Good song though :)

I'd actually be surprised if this didn't qualify. It seems to be well liked, and it's in the weaker semi-final. Can see it picking up points from both the tele-vote and jury.

It's pretty much The Balkan Girls: Part 2 . I have it down as 7th place in the semi.
It's very noughties-Eurovision-by-numbers. It's not BAD, and I'm fairly sure it will qualify, but I can't see it as a winner.
Not sure, but as soon as I heard Horehronie I thought Balkan Girls! The way it was presented on stage in the NF might have contributed to that.

Ah, yeah, they both had costume changes :P

I was very disappointed when Romania didn't have a costume change last year, after she had about 4 in the national final. And I dunno how Kristina managed that costume change in the Slovak selection, though I've only seen the preview video, so it may be edited a bit

, speaking of costume changes, how on earth did Georgia 08 happen?

With those funny-looking blond haired men pulling a large white sheet over everyone, then everyone threw their costumes to the back of the stage :P

But it was all so fast and they didn't bundle the woman over either :o

An acoustic version:

This will do a lot better than you expect - I say this is the dark-horse to win.

Last year, I said Iceland was the dark-horse, and they came 2nd, so I did quite well. A nice song which I really liked, but I didn't think was at the top of the odds - on the night of the final, the odds seemed to say it would be a Norway, Greece, UK top 3.

Well talking about Georgia '08 she was blind :o But i'm sure you all know that my fellow ESC fanatics :kink: It didn't catch my eye, these costumes changes tbh :o :o
