Shakira to appear in pre-final show

BERLIN, July 6 (Reuters) - Colombian pop singer Shakira will top the bill for the kick-off party on Sunday at Berlin's Olympiastadion before the World Cup final between Italy and France.

 

Shakira will perform on a giant stairway in the middle of the pitch, FIFA officials said.

 

Spanish tenor Placido Domingo will also perform at halftime in the final.

The final will be preceded by a 10-minute closing ceremony featuring Shakira and 400 performers.

 

The Colombian songstress will work her way down the stone stairs from the Marathon entrance of Berlin's Olympic stadium with local musicians and dancers in a 10-minute performance.

 

Californian choreographer Doug Jack, who has worked on opening and closing ceremonies at the last five Olympics, said the program aimed to bring the energy and enthusiasm from the Fan Mile -- where hundreds of thousands have gathered to watch World Cup matches on giant TV screens -- into the stadium.

 

Sounds like it's gonna be good! :D

I think that's the stairway at the far end of the pitch, in the middle.

Is she performing before and after?

Just before the game, part of the opening ceremony.

That performance will make her album sales increase dramatically in Germany, France and Italy (3 of the biggest European markets), and maybe a bit in UK.

I think it will increase her sales all around the world and maybe even make hip's go back to number depending on what is out next week.

I think i would prefer her to mime everything apart from the new noises because if she hit's a few bum notes because she is singing in english it won't look good.

Yeah true.

 

Anastacia's song was terrible though wasn't it :( and didn't have nearly as much success as this ^_^ although I think Anastacia has a stronger voice.

Yeah, that song was awful :( And she sounds alot more powefull live (there's a topic about Im Outta Love LIVE acapella, thats a good example to use :wub: )

She probably will mime - apparently it's commonplace at these huge events because they can't do soundcheck and it's just logistically impossible. Although, like someone said, it would be good if she did the chanting live and just mimed the rest.

 

Hopefully it will give the song a good boost in sales and maybe a chance at number 1 again because the final will probably get more than 10 million viewers - imagine if just 30k of those people went and downloaded the song - it would almost be guarenteed number 1 again - doubt that would happen though.

The album was only like 1000 or 2000 (i'd have to look) in wednesdays update behind number 10 so with the World cup i think the album will crack the top 10 maybe even go high in to the top ten :D :P :D

^ I was watching something on the news about the world cup and a man presenting at the stadium was shouting because Shakira was rehearsing in the back ground :D

i can't wait this sunday so much to look forward too nadal Vs federer, france Vs Italy and shakira too!!
