March 3, 201015 yr and the can't sing live, can't hold a note bunch. Every contestant in PSTOS impressed me in some way. Alex James knew he didn't have the greatest voice for doing the show but gave it so much enthusiasm and turned in one of the most memorable performances. Some avant garde opera company will be picking that up, complete with air guitar. Vanessa had a really beautiful voice but we barely had any opportunity to hear it. It's a pity the show required voting off so quickly. I didn't realise what a lovely guy Jimmy Osmond was. I wish they'd given HIM a decent aria earlier rather than O Sole Mio and Volare. My heart goes out to the Osmonds just now after the tragic death of Marie's son. Danny McFly is so much fun and a hard worker too. I don't think we heard the best of his voice. I think his system for learning the language actually worked against him. He was so busy trying to remember his own anglicised phonetics that he forgot what they actually meant and broke up meaningful phrases. I've commented on the semi-finalists before.
March 3, 201015 yr Author I'd like to see it back again but altered. I'd like 3 or 4 weeks of how they are being coached. I'd like it live without voice overs. I'd prefer it not as a competition but a record of how they did with, maybe, a finale where they perform together, each taking a character role.
March 3, 201015 yr Interesting interview with Rolando on the Andrew Marr programme, seemingly recorded while the show was still on. No mention of any individuals.
March 3, 201015 yr I'd forgotten he was due back in London on Saturday. I wonder if Real Radio will record some of their night, and put it out later the way West Sound did with Burns. I really hope that happens. I would love to hear Darius sing Impossible Dream again. Sue
March 3, 201015 yr I really hope that happens. I would love to hear Darius sing Impossible Dream again. Sue I'd really like to Impossible dream as an MP3... hmmnnn actually... there's a version of it on YouTube yes???
March 4, 201015 yr Author Katharine Jenkins in the Daily Record "A programme like Popstar To Operastar couldn't have happened five years ago. It is happening nowadays because people are genuinely interested in it." Katherine, who also appeared in stage show Viva La Diva with Darcey Bussell, says Darius should ignore any snobbery he faces as he tries to make the leap from pop star to opera star. She added: "I have struggled with opera snobs all my life. "When I was studying to be a classical singer, teachers would say, 'You don't even look like one'. They assumed I couldn't be and I wouldn't be a singer of classical or opera music. "That preconcieved idea of what makes an opera singer is all wrong and it doesn't have to be that way. "It doesn't matter about the opera snobs. I don't really care. They all took the show too seriously. The show was supposed to be light entertainment. "The idea is to teach the popstars discipline. We are not saying that at the end of the six weeks they will be onstage at the opera house in Covent Garden
March 4, 201015 yr Darius could do all that, apart from singing in foreign languages (if I discount I would Die For You and believe me I usually do!), before he went on the show. The difference is more people have seen him do it live week after week. Yes we knew that but now more people will perhaps admit it
March 5, 201015 yr Quote in mail re KJS TOUR - Operastar to popstar: Katherine Jenkins vamps up strait-laced image with dazzling circus show fit for Madonna- So shes not just standing there.
March 5, 201015 yr KJ's been able to use the vehicle of the show to popularise her image and take more risks. Maybe seeing how effective Darius could be performing alone and how a few dancers lifted performances by Kym and Bernie, influenced her to put more spectacle into her upcoming tour. Maybe she's still after the part of Christine and needs to show she can do more. Rolando got a renewed enthusiasm for his art from seeing it through the innocence of the popstars. The latter learned discipline and better singing techniques which will help them protect their voices, whatever type of music they choose to sing. ITV got themselves an hour's family viewing show on a Friday without nastiness, humiliation or moaning. Another genre of music was showcased. A music charity had its awareness raised and gained monetarily too. WIN! WIN!WIN! What more could you ask of a poorly scheduled programme?
March 5, 201015 yr Author And it was different - that's fantastic in a time when it's no use putting the tv on as it's all the same things
March 5, 201015 yr I hardly ever bother with TV. The soaps were my last addiction and I've only dipped into them but otherwise not watched them for about 2 years. The plots have got too ridiculous and they're dragged out over months and I lose any interest I ever had in them. The characters are so bland compared to their counterparts on the earlier series of the shows. Ten, fifteen years ago, you could believe they were real people with all their strengths, humour and flaws and there was more human interaction between them all. e.g.What was all that Molly/Kevin rubbish about in Coronation Street? It dragged on and on with no great acting opportunities and then finally fizzled out like a damp squib.
March 5, 201015 yr I also have stopped watching the soaps (except for Neighbours) and thought I would miss them but instead I find I am watching other more interesting things instead and haven't missed them at all.
March 5, 201015 yr havent watched soaps for years, I jsut lost interest, all the plots went round and round, got more and more extreme, now I cant bear more than five minutes if I happen to turn them on - I much prefer to learn somethign from TV
March 5, 201015 yr Soaps can be great, as long as they keep a mix of humour and drama well ballanced. A few years back Eastenders went through a really miserable patch and I stopped watching because they dragged things out painfully slowly. I enjoy the soaps now, but prefer Corrie with slightly more humour in it than Eastenders. For those people who write soaps, just in case they are tempted to go back to the bad old days, be warned and don't! There are millions of people like me, who have enough misery and suffering in their own lives, they certainly don't want to endure it through their tv too!
March 5, 201015 yr However briefly it shone, PSTOS was pure enjoyment, far from the everyday struggles. I was thinking about KJ's "dazzling circus show" - Love Never Dies is set on Coney island, isn't it?
March 5, 201015 yr I've been to Coney Island, it was closed :D well almost, but we loved visiting anyway :)
March 7, 201015 yr Author I enjoyed Coney Island. It was completely different to anywhere I'd ever been.
