March 8, 201015 yr Author Overall very predictable - especially 'The Hurt Locker' winning Best Picture. I just knew they would go for the film very few people have seen as oppose for the one everyone and their dog has seen (Avatar). They are generally like this so it was highly predictable - they continue to be very niche when they had the chance of re-connecting with the wider cinema audience this year, becase let's face it - it is rare that such a critically acclaimed film makes such an insane amount of money. I am glad though as I won a good few quid on a bet. The Hurt Locker is a good film, but like it or not Avatar will be extremly influential in the future of film-making - whereas The Hurt Locker will be more remembered for being the film that beat Avatar instead of a future classic - because it's not a classic by any stretch of the imagination. It's just a very strong American War film, but it is certainly not the best of 2009- it's not even the best film released that month (Moon was) let alone the year  Delighted Jeff Bridges and Christopher Waltz won Best Actor and Supporting - two astonishingly good performances. Havent seen 'The Blind Side', but it is nice to see Sandra Bullock win Best Actress, she has proved many times she is a very talented acctress when it comes to dramatic roles in the past. Also good to see Kathryn Bigelow pick up Best Director - I can't believe she is the first women to ever win it. :o Edited March 8, 201015 yr by De Niro
March 8, 201015 yr Yay for Star Trek and Christoph Waltz. But Avatar was ROBBED :snif: Didn't Sandra Bullock win Worst Actress at the Razzies the night before?
March 8, 201015 yr Author Yay for Star Trek and Christoph Waltz. But Avatar was ROBBED :snif: Didn't Sandra Bullock win Worst Actress at the Razzies the night before? Yeah, she did which is the first time that has ever happened - it was for a different film - 'All About Steve' which I havnt seen and don't plan on to - it looks appauling.
March 8, 201015 yr yay for saundra bullock i love her as an actor her films are always great when she is in them.
March 8, 201015 yr I got 8/9 of the major awards correct ^_^, I didn't expect Precious to win best adapted screenplay but I'm delighted it did, such a powerful movie tbh. Edited March 8, 201015 yr by nickthenoodle

What's so nice about the Oscars is that a good ammount of the time they'll recognize films and actors who were not in films that were released widely, rather, simply looking at what was the best film. I know that there are a lot of politics in the Oscars, but The Hurt Locker easily deserved it over Avartar. Btw, boo for Colin Firth not winning best actor. Not that there was any hope. ); Up was my preferably choice for best film, but I knew it wouldn't beat Avatar or The Hurt Locker.
March 8, 201015 yr I pretty much knew Jeff Bridges was going to win for Crazy Heart. On past results ... actors playing country singers usually have a good record. I haven't seen it and I don't think I intend to either but I'm glad he won as it makes up for several times before when he should have. So pleased for Sandra Bullock! I find her films a bit hit and miss ... but she is just terrific ... and seems like a really nice person. Norma
March 9, 201015 yr Sandra's speech was nice. It had just the right amount of humour and poignancy. This is why I love Sandra Bullock! She'd earlier attended the Razzies to receive her 'worst actress' (another film) and took it all in good humour. She really seems to be one of those few Hollywood types totally unaffected by fame. Besides ... she looks like my best friend from schooldays! Norma
March 9, 201015 yr Please 'Up' won the animated movie category :D It should've indeed done the best picture overall though :( Sandra Bullock
March 9, 201015 yr Christolph Waltz deserved that more than anyone, shame the film got nothing else though. And not amused that District 9 got nothing! It's arguably as innovative within its own genre as Avatar :(

I thought her bringing out a wheel-barrow full of DVD's of the film 'All About Steve' was a nice touch!

Also good to see Kathryn Bigelow pick up Best Director - I can't believe she is the first women to ever win it. :o No, The Hurt Locker will be remembered as the film in which the first woman ever won a Best Director Oscar... And rightly so, Kathryn Bigelow is 10 times the film maker her Ex-Husband is... Just look at the evidence... "Near Dark", "Strange Days", "Point Break", "Blue Steel", "K19 - The Widowmaker"... There's at least TWO films there she could have had the Best Director Oscar for years ago (Point Break and Strange Days)... James Cameron is over-hyped and his best days are long behind him (that would be "Terminator 2" by the way...). Avatar is a piece of over-hyped sh!t as an actual film... A turd-cake wrapped up in a nice bit of icing... A lousy rip-off of "Dances With Wolves" via the cannibalisation of themes from all his better films (Aliens, Abyss, Terminator). "Terminator 2" was the time for Cameron to win an Oscar, now he's just a dinosaur ripping off his own past glories and the much better ideas of Japanese Anime directors such as Otomo and Oshii... For Kathryn Bigelow and other up-and-coming female directors, their time has emphatically come.... Fukk the Hollywood Patriarchy, you were beaten by a more than worthy woman this time.... And, Hurt Locker is 10 times the film Avatar could even be capable of being because it is IMPORTANT AND RELEVANT film-making..... Jeff Bridges = overhyped also, I'm sorry, but Colin Firth gave a much better performance...
