My favourites would be 'The Change', 'Lost In Paradise' and 'My Heart Is Broken'. Can definitely see all three of those having singles chart potential (although perhaps not in the UK with our terrible musical taste in the singles chart), bizarre that they chose 'What You Want' as the lead single - it's by no means bad, but very average compared to most of the album.

Definitely worth it picking up the Deluxe Edition, the extra tracks are good.

I think its their best album yet. Listening to the album straight through on the first listen, I thought some of the songs blended together. However, after a few listens and listening to the songs independently, the songs grew on me. I don't see how anyone can say the songs are samey after listening to the album more than once. The album has aggressive songs like "Made of Stone" and "Sick", traditional Evanescence rock ballads like "Lost in Paradise" and "My Heart is Broken" and calm songs like "Swimming Home" which has some great vocals from Amy Lee.

If you've never liked Evanescence, you're probably not going to like this. If you're just a casual fan who only knows "Bring Me To Life" and "My Immortal", then you may not like it. As an Evanescence fan who thinks "Fallen" is overrated due to it's two massive hits and "The Open Door" is a much better album, I think "Evanescence" takes the best aspects of each album. It's more immediate and less polarising than "The Open Door", more lyrically and emotionally varied than "Fallen" and more of a hard rock album than both of their previous efforts. It's telling that the album is getting it's best reviews from rock sites and magazines, whilst pop reviewers like it less.

Someone must have uploaded the songs onto Youtube by now. My recommendations are "Made of Stone", "The Change" and "Lost in Paradise".

EXACTLY.... You speak for me on this one.... It's a ROCK album for ROCK/METAL fans... Pop/Scene Kids can feck off and listen to McFly or Good Charlotte or something equally shite.... -_-

Does anyone other than me occasionally listen to Good Charlotte anymore? Surely the issue is that there isn't really the same culture of watered down pop-rock/punk/metal anymore, you're either a mainstream fanboy or you're not. The only successful acts that fall somewhere in the middle (Paramore, 30STM namely) are listened to by both but they don't attract the same mass audiences their predecessors did.

Not really up on the Pop-Rocker stuff these days tbh, so dunno what's out there... Paramore are a bit less offensive to my Metaller ears than most going by what I heard.. I think Ev have really hit their groove now, I'm listening to the new album quite a bit lately, and I think Amy's vocals are the best I've heard from her. Ironically I think they've gone more towards where Lacuna Coil were whereas Lacuna Coil had come more over to Ev's side with their last album... And I definitely prefer this album to Ben Moody's project We Are The Fallen...

Gave 'Made of Stone' a listen, I'm absolutely sold! Will download this tomorrow.

Saw them last night. Half the reason I went was to see The Pretty Reckless supporting, and I missed them because the bloody train was over an hour late. Setlist from Hammersmith Apollo given I can't find the Manchester one anywhere and it looks almost identical:

What You Want

Going Under

The Other Side

Weight of the World

The Change

Made of Stone

Lost in Paradise

My Heart Is Broken

Lithium

Sick

Oceans

Call Me When You're Sober

Imaginary

Bring Me to Life

Never Go Back

Your Star

My Immortal

Heavy on new stuff but most of it worked very well. I've really come around to "My Heart Is Broken", top song. As someone who's never seen them live before, Amy Lee's voice was incredible. Flawless throughout, played a lot of piano as well equally brilliantly.

Hmmm, so, guessing they played about an hour and a quarter maybe...? Seems a bit short for a band with three albums, plus loads of early demo stuff... I'm seeing Opeth on Sunday at Brixton. I'm fully expecting a three-and-a-half hour epic considering they've done 11 albums and their average song length is about ten minutes.....

Probably because a lot of the current line-up weren't part of the band's earlier output. And it doesn't necessarily follow with song length, Mayhem have some pretty lengthy stuff yet my mate saw them last year and they were on for less than an hour, whereas Green Day can throw out mainly sub-three minute pop-punk for a good two and a half hours.

I watched the whole of their Rock In Rio gig on YouTube... Amy is cutting a mightily impressive figure these days... I remember being rather underwhelmed when I saw Evanescence in 2004, but she's so much stronger in her vocals and her stage presence since she ditched the w*n**rs and got herself a proper band.... The new material is incredible live....

I'm seeing them on Sunday. I saw Within Temptation on Tuesday and they were absolutely brilliant. They've set a really high bar for Evanescence to beat.

I like Evanescence's setlist, but I really think they should end the show with Bring Me To Life instead of My Immortal.

Bring Me To Life - so much better without the Annoying Shouty Man..... -_-

I have to say, even though the new album is very well produced, I'm a bit underwhelmed. :( I enjoy it, and I'd gladly listen to it again, but none of the songs (apart from What You Want & Lost in Paradise) are grabbing me. Perhaps I'll listen to the songs individually, as they seem to run into each other and that could be the reason why it's not catching on...

Swimming Home is growing on me though!

ohh thats really interasting!! nice style!

If you don't start making vaguely interesting/constructive posts you're getting warned.

Perhaps you'd care to vote for them and/or others in the BJ Rock, Metal Awards then. Could do with all the votes we can get right now :D

I really love this band too...

Predictable, yet still very good. Annoyed the missed off my favourite bit of the intro though, after the drums start there should be two bars with the piano in before Amy's vocals come in. Oh well.
