Posted March 12, 201015 yr Well, with the vast majority of the tracks chosen, who are we tipping for the win in Oslo this year? Shock qualifiers? Dark horses? Surprising flops? Although, more importantly, has anyone else lost faith in the contest this year? Last year was always going to be a tough act to follow, but still...
March 12, 201015 yr Author I'm predicting now a victory for any of: Ireland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark or Romania. Sweden will come off that list if they choose anything other than Timoteij/Salem.
March 12, 201015 yr It's between Ireland and Norway for me, no question - but they may well scupper each other's chances due to their similarity. Romania's is incredibly contemporary but I can't see the juries taking to it much even if the public do - 3rd-6th I see for that. Another Norway runaway wouldn't surprise me in the slightest. Sweden will leap straight to the top of that list if they send Timoteij. I still can't call how Salem would do seeing as others on the forum think it's a forgettable non-song with no melody :/ maybe the public might feel the same? I haven't lost faith in it. It's just 2002 all over again - an off year. Things will get better again.
March 12, 201015 yr I'll wait until after the two semi finals. Once I know exactly which tracks have been successful enough to make the Eurovision Song Contest I will give a better verdict. For now, my gut instinct says Cyprus. :dunno:
March 12, 201015 yr I'd say RTÉ are wetting themselves now that Niamh is in with a chance of winning. I don't even think they can afford a packet of biscuits at the moment, so I can't see them forking out €15,000,000 for a contest, unless they go ask the IMF for assistance. I would love to see Sweden do well, as well as Iceland and Ireland. Dark horse could be Switzerland.
March 12, 201015 yr I haven't lost faith in it. It's just 2002 all over again - an off year. Things will get better again. 2009 started off an excellent year for music with excellent UK no. 1 singles leading up to the Eurovision Song Contest in May. Alas, excellent songs performed at the ESC2009. 2010 started off average getting worse up until last week - who knows if the list of UK no. 1 singles will improve - I dread to think what might be no. 1 in the UK in the run up to Eurovision. Alas, crap songs performed at the ESC2010. I'm already thinking "roll on 2011" because 2010 is clearly a non-event.
March 12, 201015 yr Russia or Ukraine :kink: Denmark, Moldova, Romania, Ireland or Sweden. If Sweden send "Kom", then we know the winner over 2 months in advance

Thank goodness then for the European music scene and the internet allowing me to find hidden gems from other countries charts!
March 12, 201015 yr Just wondering if Azerbaijan and Ukraine have chosen their winners yet? Ukraine's entry in 2008 'Shady Lady' was ace and even 'Dancing' from 2007 was hilariously brilliant. As for Azerbaijan, I really liked 'Always' their entry last year. Hopefully they will produce the goods this year. :D

March 12, 201015 yr If Sweden choose Timoteij i think they could very well win, i cant see the huge appeal of Norway at all myself but its a song i can see doing well. From all the songs i have heard and if Timoteji go through for Sweden id love and Ireland and Sweden final 2 with Ireland being first, but i agree if Ireland did win i dont know what RTE will do as there is no way they can afford to host it, im sure the irish delegation are hoping more for a top 5 finish more than a win, as a fan though iwant Ireland to win of course! UK and Switzerland so far are 2 of my least fave entries but i havnt heard alot of the songs yet in full.
March 13, 201015 yr Author Oh yes, Armenia could do well! I think low top ten for Apricot Stone though...
March 13, 201015 yr Author If Timoteij or Salem get chosen tonight, we're back to Stockholm next year. If not and Niamh gets drawn anywhere between 16th and 25th performing slot in the final, and away from Norway, then we have a Dublin final lined up! Or, given RTE's current financial situation, more likely Millstreet...
March 13, 201015 yr Salem doesn't strike me as a guaranteed winner sadly :( but then nothing does  very very poor year... He would be a FANTASTIC, and very credible winner though! I've liked Salem for a good couple of years and knew he was going to breakthrough eventually! Astronaut (the song) had too much potential for him not to do something else special in the future  Germany for the shock win!
March 13, 201015 yr I really dont get the Salem loving, i prefer about 6/7 songs to that from tonights Melodifestivalen final.

I reckon the juries would go insane for him - it's a fantastically mature entry, completely unlike anything that the casual British viewer would expect :o I'd be over the moon if he won!

As comments above, and from my chart suggest though, a lot of people just don't 'get it'. If you do get it it's fantastic but I'm guessing it wouldn't be universally loved enough to take the win.
