haha I know but I'm just getting anxious for it now so I keep checking. Ooh new song that's good to know!

Fraser T Smith is overseeing production of Leona Lewis’s entire next album, making it the first time a producer has worked across one of her releases.

The co-writer of Adele’s Set Fire To The Rain and Taio Cruz’s Break Your Heart told Music Week that, while other producers were working on what will be in Glassheart her third studio set, he was taking a production role for the whole album as well as co-authoring about half its tracks.

This approach is entirely different to Lewis’s first two albums Spirit and Echo, which were littered with different songwriters and producers across their tracks, among them Max Martin, Dr Luke, Stargate, Ryan Tedder and Steve Mac.

Smith suggested having one producer overseeing everything would result in Lewis “making an artist album rather than it being a collection of songs”.

When having a mixture of producers for one album he reckoned “you end up with maybe two or three radio songs and not necessarily the album sales you want”.

“It’s been amazing,” he said. “It’s been a great challenge to come up with a vision at the beginning of how we wanted it to sound and I hope to be able to do more projects like that in the future.”

“People have preconceptions of what Leona is so you want to keep the essence of that and keep pushing the boundaries,” added Smith who is signed to Sony/ATV Music Publishing.

He revealed the Syco album, which has been given a release date of November 26, was now about 80% finished. “We’ve got the key tracks and we’re very close. She’s done some fantastic vocals and is making a very relevant record and a very important record for her. The songs are really strong,” he said.

The Hackney native also confirmed that new single 'Trouble' will be out in October, with third album Glassheart out the same month.

'Trouble' is written by Emeli Sandé, and Lewis said that their musical partnership has been a rewarding one, commenting: "['Trouble' is]very deep and has amazing lyrics that are from the heart. It was great collaborating with Emeli because she really gets where I come from."

I was there at Hackney when she performed Come Alive. I really like it, although at the same time I'm a tad confused because it's not a massive step away from her original material (the Echo album in particular). Have they decided to stop trying to push the dance sound? It's very anthemic sounding with a huge chorus, which is promising!

I wouldn't say it was too far removed from the dance sound, it's just a different one to "Collide". It's got a very dubstep feel to it, with a bit of drum and bass towards the end - a bit like a Nero song. I'm excited to see what else they've got in store after seeing her perform this.

Leona Lewis @ R1 Hackney Weekend:

“Emeli Sande is wicked; she’s written my new single that’s out in October”

How was your performance today?

Leona: I’m from Hackney and I think about a hundred family members and friends are here for me. I just felt like I was performing to them, so it was nice. I wanted to kind of have some local talent involved in my set and I thought the Hackney Empire Choir was the best way to do that.

You debuted the track Come Alive on stage today…

Leona: Me, Fraser [producer] and Ina [songwriter] kind of wanted to do an up-tempo song but still remain kind of true to what I do, so we decided to go a tiny bit dubstep, a tiny bit drum and bass and just rocked it.

Is the track a good indication of the album?

Leona: Definitely a piece of it, there’s much more live sounding instrumental songs on there but that’s the strings and live drums. It’s a good mixture of programmed synths and live music as well.

MSN: How did you come to team up with Fraser T Smith [super-producer] on your new album?

Leona: I’ve known Fraser for 12 years and we got together on my EP – he did that whole EP for me and I just wanted to continue to work with him so I asked him to if he’d do the album.

MSN: When are we going to hear it?

Leona: October

MSN: Yay!

Leona: Yaay, finally.

MSN: We spoke to Emeli Sande last summer and she said how much she enjoyed working with you…

Leona: She’s so wicked. She’s written a song on my album which is going to be my single. I’m really excited, she’s so talented and so lovely. The track with Emeli is Trouble and is my new single, that’ll be in October as well.

It’s quite dark, it’s very deep, with amazing lyrics and it’s just coming from the heart really. It’s good to just collaborate with her as well because she really gets where I’m coming from, she’s like a sister.
